Abstract

Teachers in archipelagic regions face challenges such as limited access, geographical isolation, and cultural diversity, particularly in the Society 5.0 era. This study aims to assess the feasibility of an instrument for measuring teacher personality competency in this context. Using a quantitative approach, the study was conducted in Maluku Province, with a multistage random sample of 752 teachers from 94 schools. The instrument employed a modified four-point Likert scale, and data analysis was conducted using the PLS-SEM method to evaluate the measurement and structural models. Key findings include: 1) Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) identified six dominant factors and 29 items to measure teacher personality competency; 2) The measurement model demonstrated feasibility, with construct validity confirmed through convergent validity (loading factors 0.70 and Average Variance Extracted 0.50) and discriminant validity (Fornell-Larcker criterion and Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio 0.90). Reliability was supported by Cronbach’s Alpha, Rho_A, and composite reliability values all exceeding 0.70. These results indicate that the instrument is suitable for assessing teacher personality competency in island regions, helping address the challenges of the Society 5.0 era. The study has important implications for Indonesian education stakeholders, providing a validated tool to guide teacher performance evaluations.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze cultural greetings based on the linguistic structures of the Wemale and Alune tribes in Maluku. This qualitative research employs an ethnographic approach and was conducted across eight sub-districts in Western Seram Regency, Maluku Province. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Data analysis followed Spradley's model, which comprises four phases: domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis. The study identified 20 traditional greetings from the indigenous peoples in the Western Seram Regency. Ten of these greetings were recommended for official use, and six were selected as the primary cultural greetings based on the linguistic structures of the Wemale and Alune tribes. These greetings are Ho Salamate, Sou Salamate, Tabea Salamate, Mese, Upu Ana, and Sopai. This research contributes to the preservation and revitalization of the Wemale and Alune languages by proposing standardized cultural greetings that reflect the linguistic and cultural heritage of these tribes. The findings also support the integration of these greetings into local education curricula to promote cultural sustainability.

Abstract

This research was conducted within the religious context of one of the indigenous tribes in Maluku, located in Siwalalat District, Central Maluku. This research examines the social changes in the spiritual patterns of the Naulu people following their adoption of the Abrahamic religions, specifically Islam and Christianity. Using qualitative research methods, this study aims to observe and understand the phenomenon of social change in the religious patterns of the Naulu Tribe after they adopted the Abrahamic religion, and to analyze it with a scientific approach, resulting in academic findings. The study's results show that the presence of the Abrahamic religions has altered the pattern of faith and community life. There is a process of growth and development of new cultures, new ways of life, and new mindsets in appreciating various values, including the influence of money, goods, education, and strong government politics. However, the Naulu people still maintain their traditional values, such as living simply, wearing cloth tied around their heads, and living dependent on forests and customary land as a true and fundamental way of life. They still hold fast to the traditional belief that land and forests are the cosmos of the original Naulu people. It is in the forests and customary land that they maintain the integrity of the Naulu Tribe's life, which is always connected to their ancestors. This finding represents the connection between the Samawi religion and the local cosmology of the Naulu people, which must be preserved as a contextual aspect of their religion.

Abstract

AbstractThis article aims to analyze the role of pela gandong as local wisdom used as a cultural conflict resolution in the 1999-2002 Ambon conflict. Using sociology of conflict approach, the theory of cultural conflict resolution, and methods of collecting observational data and interviews with Ambonese Muslims and Christians, this paper finds that, first, ethnocentrism is the main cultural cause of the Ambon conflict, and, second, the Ambon conflict is resolved and peace is built firmly through the cultural conflict resolution of pela gandong. With noble values, especially brotherhood, equality, equality, togetherness and tolerance, pela gandong is very effective in resolving cultural conflicts both during the Ambon conflict, post-conflict and in fostering peace until now. During the Ambon conflict, there was no conflict between Muslim and Christian countries that were bound by pela gandong. After the conflict occurred, pela gandong became the foundation of cultural conflict resolution in rebuilding peace, strengthening the capacity of Ambonese people "from within"; rebuild their broken relationship; reaffirming the value of brotherhood among Maluku peoples; teach mutual recognition of religious and cultural differences; accelerate recovery from conflict trauma; re-knitting the greetings of fraternity; and building mutual trust between Muslim and Christian countries. Meanwhile, in the process of building peace up to now, Ambonese admit that pela gandong is effective in preventing “outsiders” who keep trying to reescalate the conflict, because every country in Ambon is already engaged in pela gandong one with another country. Keywords: pela gandong, religious cultural resolution, local wisdom.

Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of Islamic da’wah in Papua, highlighting historical challenges and contemporary transformations within a social, political, and cultural context. This study uses a qualitative approach with historical and social analysis through a review of literature, Islamic organizational documents, and narratives from Papuan Muslim figures. The results show that although Islam was the first Abrahamic religion to arrive in Papua, its spread was hampered by the influence of colonialism and the dominance of Christian and Catholic missions, which relegated Islam to a minority position with an exclusive image. However, over time, Islamic da’wah has undergone significant transformation, particularly through educational and empowerment initiatives undertaken by organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and the Papuan Muslim Council. These changes have fostered the emergence of educated and influential Papuan Muslim figures and strengthened awareness of Islamic identity as an integral part of Papuan culture. These findings confirm that Islamic preaching based on a cultural approach and social empowerment is more effective in transforming the old narrative of Islam as a “newcomer religion,” toward recognizing it as a legitimate part of Papuan identity. Going forward, ethnographic-based research is needed to capture the pulse of Papuan Muslims at the grassroots level and understand Islam as growing from within, not simply coming from the outside.

Abstract

Greetings serve as a means of expressing the identity of a region. Adat greetings have been preserved within tribes or small community groups, stemming from ancestors' lives in each area. The Wemale and Alune tribes hold significant positions and have played a crucial role in disseminating the Maluku language. This study aims to explore adat greetings through the lens of language structure. Employing a qualitative research methodology with an ethnographic approach, the research was conducted across eight sub-districts in the Western Seram Regency (SBB). Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The data were analyzed using the four phases of the Spradley Model, which encompasses descriptive, structural, and contrastive analysis, and thematic analysis to understand the nuances of language structure at both macro and micro levels. The findings revealed that the indigenous people of SBB possess at least 20 adat greetings. Eleven of these have been proposed as conventional greetings for official occasions, while six are recommended for use as conventional adat greetings during adat ceremonies or official events. These adat greetings are intended to signify a significant milestone in the renewal and sustainability of the languages of both tribes in a regenerative and sustainable manner.
