Abstract

When purchasing, consumers will prioritize the attributes attached to the product. Research needs to be done to increase consumer buying interest through consumer preference. Especially if it is done in an area with potential but little interest in Kampong chicken meat, this study aims to look at the preferences of Kampong chicken consumers in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The research implementation time was in August 2023. This study's population is Kampong chicken consumers in several wholesale markets in Bukittinggi. For the sample size, 200 respondents had been taken. The variables in this study are a set of attributes of Kampong chicken: price, color, texture, age, gender, chicken meat parts, and chicken skin. The results showed that the highest importance value was at the age attribute of the chicken, which was 19.069, while the lowest value was the price. Based on calculations, it was found that consumers prefer affordable prices to price stabilization. The preferred meat color was meat with a pink color, chewy skin texture, medium size, 4-5 months old, male sex; the most preferred part was the breast, and the chicken was consumed without the skin.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the income and analyze the profit level of the beef cattle business owned by the Sinar Pagi livestock group in Limapuluh Kota Regency, Sumatera Barat Province. This research contributes to the wider debate on improving rural livelihoods and achieving sustainable agricultural development, and is essential for understanding the profitability of smallholder livestock enterprises. The results of this research will provide insights into the financial sustainability of their operations and will inform strategies for the optimisation of their business performance. The research was carried out using a case study method with 16 key informants, also members of the Sinar Pagi livestock group. Data were analyzed with descriptive quantitative methods. The study results show that the income earned by this livestock group in one year of research is IDR 6,471,775, with a profit rate of 1.08/year. It can be concluded that the Sinar Pagi livestock group only gets a profit of 8%, and this profit has not been able to meet the needs of the farmer's life.

Abstract

This study examined the dynamics of the traditional cattle trading in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia, focusing on the Muaro Paneh livestock market. Livestock markets support rural economies by facilitating animal transactions, disseminating market information, preserving cultural practices, and maintaining social networks. Despite the significance of this market, there was a lack of research on micro-level rural livestock markets in Indonesia. This study aimed to fill the gap by investigating the structure, key actors, and transactional mechanisms of the traditional cattle trade in Solok District. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research exposed the underlying dynamics of rural livestock markets, evaluate their resilience, and provide empirical insights for inclusive and context-sensitive livestock development policies. The findings emphasize the importance of traditional livestock markets in rural transformation and sustainable livestock systems.
