Abstract

Background: The use of calcium alginate dressing in the wound healing process in diabetes mellitus (DM) plays an important role as a wound dressing material that can help speed up the healing process. Calcium alginate functions to absorb exudate from wounds, create a moist environment that supports tissue regeneration, and prevents infection. This material is also able to stimulate the hemostasis process and reduce swelling, which is very beneficial for DM sufferers who often experience problems healing wounds due to disorders of blood circulation and the immune system. Purpose: To find out the healing process in DM wounds with the wound care method using Calcium Alginate Dressing with the aim of speeding up the wound healing process in DM Patients. Method: Pre-experiment method without control one group pre-test post-test design. The population of this study were DM patients with diabetic wounds and samples were taken using purposive sampling so that the total sample was 3 people. The research instrument used was the Bates-Jensen wound assessment tool (BWAT) with assessment criteria for a minimum BWAT severity score of 13-20, BWAT mild severity score of 21-30, BWAT moderate severity score of 31-40, BWAT Critical severity score of 41-60. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis. Results: There was a change in the acceleration of the wound healing process from a critical severity score of 41-50 to a moderate severity score. The principle of wound care by creating a moist wound healing environment or keeping the wound environment always moist (not wet or dry) is in line with the modern principle of moisture balance dressing, namely selecting the type of dressing with a moist method to increase fibrinolysis, reduce infection, stimulate the formation of active cells and angiogenesis. Conclusion: There are significant changes in the wound healing process in DM patients.Suggestion: Further research is still needed to explore the optimal duration of calcium alginate use and further evaluate its effectiveness in various types of diabetic wounds.

Abstract

Childhood tuberculosis in Indonesia is the third most common in the world, in 2020 the number of new child Tuberculosis cases decreased by 32.4%, this is still far from the government's target in 2024, which is 90%. Bandung Regency has 62 health centers, the highest number of child TB cases is at the Linggar Health Center, namely 42 children with Tuberculosis due to family factors that have smoking habits. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between family smoking habits and the incidence of Tuberculosis in children aged 3–6 years in the Working Area of the Linggar Health Center. This type of research uses casecontrol with a population of 60 families with children aged 3-6 years. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, the sample is 60 families. Data collection using the Riskesdas 2018 questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of the study most of the cases (76.7%) were smokers while the controls (60%) were non-smokers. Family smoking status (P-value 0.004), type of white cigarette (P-value 0.002), number of cigarettes <12 cigarettes (P-value 0.006), duration of smoking > 19 minutes (P-value 0.000), and smoking in the house (P- value 0.001) has a relationship with TB in children. Of the five, smoking duration >19 minutes is the riskiest for TB in children (OR 19,286) because the longer the duration of family smoking, the more influential it is on the incidence of tuberculosis in children aged 3-6 years considering the content of smoking can reduce children's immunity. The conclusion of the study is that there is a relationship between family smoking habits and TB in children aged 3-6 years in the Working Area of the Linggar Health Center.

Abstract

Inappropriate care of acute diabetic wounds increases the risk of infection. Proper wound dressing plays a crucial role in protecting wounds from microbial contamination. The principle of moist wound care is to keep the wound environment adequately hydrated. The combination of 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera in wound care helps maintain wound moisture, while the antiseptic properties of Aloe vera inhibit bacterial growth. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of wound care using 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera. An experimental research method was used, involving eight rats with acute diabetic wounds. After wound induction, wound smears were taken and cultured for 24 hours to count bacterial colonies. Wound treatment was carried out for seven days using a combination of 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera, applied every morning and evening. After the treatment period, bacterial colony counts were measured again. The results showed a significant difference in bacterial colony counts before and after treatment, with a p-value of 0.012 (< 0.05). It can be concluded that wound care using 0.9% NaCl and Aloe vera is effective in reducing bacterial colony counts.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) poses a high risk for macrovascular complications such as Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). The Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) is a non-invasive, reliable screening tool for early detection of PAD. Lifestyle factors, particularly physical activity and dietary adherence, play a crucial role in maintaining vascular health. However, structured educational interventions integrating these aspects with ABI assessment remain limited. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of physical activity education and dietary compliance on ABI values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Thirty type 2 DM patients from Riung Bandung Community Health Center and Bandung City Hospital participated in a 7-day structured educational intervention focusing on physical activity and diet. Data collection included a modified version of the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire and ABI measurements. Statistical analyses used Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Spearman correlation. Results: Post-intervention, participants showed improved dietary adherence (fruit/vegetable consumption increased from 3.2 to 4.9 days/week) and physical activity (specific exercise increased from 3.1 to 4.7 days/week). The mean ABI value increased from 0.94 to 1.02, with 80% of participants experiencing ABI improvement. There was a significant positive correlation between improved physical activity and dietary adherence with increased ABI values (p < 0.05). Conclusion: A 7-day structured educational intervention effectively improved physical activity and dietary compliance, leading to better vascular function as indicated by ABI improvement. This approach is promising for community-based prevention of vascular complications in type 2 DM patients

Abstract

Background: Public health in Indonesia faces complex challenges, including a high prevalence of hypertension, suboptimal waste management, and low utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (FMP). Hypertension, as a non-communicable disease, requires education on healthy lifestyles, while wise waste management is crucial for preventing environmentally-related diseases. FMP offers promotive and preventive solutions based on local wisdom, but has not been optimally utilized in rural areas. In Cibeet Village, Bandung Regency, these three issues are interconnected and demonstrate the need for integrated, community-based interventions. The "One Village, Three Actions" model is proposed as a holistic approach to improving health through hypertension education, waste management, and the synergistic utilization of FMP. Purpose: To increase public awareness of maintaining health through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle and the use of family medicinal plants for hypertension control. Method: The activity was conducted on August 20, 2025, at the madrasah RW 07 in Cibeet Village, Ibun District, Bandung Regency, involving 39 participants using a total sampling technique. The material is delivered through lectures and demonstrations, including counseling, pre-tests, education about hypertension, clean and healthy living behavior, and the use of family medicinal plants, as well as post-tests and health checks (anthropometry, blood pressure, random blood sugar). Results: The level of knowledge of participants regarding hypertension and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) before education was mostly in the sufficient category (25 participants) (64.1%). After education, the majority of participants experienced an increase in knowledge, reaching the good category (35 participants) (89.8%). Conclusion: The community service activity, which integrated the delivery of three educational themes, successfully increased participants' knowledge and awareness regarding hypertension and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB). Education through lectures, demonstrations, and interactive practice proved effective in changing participants' behavior toward a healthy lifestyle, including the use of family medicinal plants (FMP) and the innovative RAMEKUH herbal drink as an alternative for hypertension control. Suggestion: Ongoing mentoring by health cadres is needed to maintain consistent healthy community behaviors, as well as further development of local herbal products to enhance their economic value and broader health benefits. Cross-sector collaboration, including in education and health, needs to be strengthened to support the sustainability of education and community empowerment programs based on local potential. Keywords: Hypertension; Local wisdom; Waste management Pendahuluan: Kesehatan masyarakat di Indonesia menghadapi tantangan kompleks, termasuk tingginya prevalensi hipertensi, pengelolaan sampah yang belum optimal, dan rendahnya pemanfaatan Tanaman Obat Keluarga (TOGA).
