Abstract

Every language has its varieties or dialects, including the Acehnese language, which includes the Daya dialect. This paper examines how the variants of the Acehnese Daya dialect are used in social interactions. The study employed a qualitative method, with primary data obtained from speakers of the Acehnese Daya dialect in each variant. Secondary data sources included literature on the Acehnese language and its variants, contributing to the interpretation of the primary data. Data collection involved observation and interviews, with data analysis conducted using the interactive model analysis, which includes four stages: data reduction, data categorization, data presentation, and conclusion. The study reveals that the Acehnese Daya dialect, as a variety of Acehnese, can be distinguished as the Meulon and the Meuke languages. The Meulon dialect does not have variants, while the Meuke dialect has two variants characterized by phonetic differences: bune, mane, jine, lake, and bunai, manai, jinai, and lakai, which mean earlier, taking a bath, now, and husband, respectively. Each variant also exhibits some phonetic, lexical, and semantic similarities. Unique lexical resources in the Acehnese Daya dialect are another distinguishing feature compared to general Acehnese. Code-switching and code-mixing between variants are also found in the speech of Acehnese Daya dialect speakers. The distinctiveness of the Acehnese Daya dialect, particularly its variants, emphasizes the importance of preserving linguistic diversity within communities.

Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health threat in South Aceh, Indonesia. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the DHF control program at Lhok Bengkuang Health Center using input, process, output, outcome indicators. A descriptive qualitative study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with officers from the South Aceh Health Office, the health center chief, program coordinators, and affected community members. Thematic analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s approach. Triangulation and member checking ensured data validity. DHF cases declined from 22 in 2023 to 7 in 2024. Control activities included source reduction (PSN), larviciding, fogging, health education, epidemiological investigations, and vector surveys. However, the Larvae Free Index (ABJ) remained below the national target of 95%. This indicates partial effectiveness, constrained by limited entomology staff and inadequate personal protective equipment for fogging. Strengthening resources and aligning local implementation with national standards are essential to sustain progress. The DHF control program effectively reduced cases but requires reinforced human resources, adequate equipment, and improved community engagement to meet national targets

Abstract

Abstract

Aceh Besar District is a filariasis endemic area. This endemic state is strongly influenced by people’s perception of filariasis countermeasures. This study aimed to determine relation between family perceptions towards health role in filariasis countermeasures using the Health Belief Model. An analytical survey was applied with a cross-sectional study approach. The study population was families at three villages that are Lambaro Bileu, Lambaet, and Cot Preh of Kuta Baro Primary Health Care. This represents 1,113 families with a sample of 92 families that were selected using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The study instrument was a questionnaire and data were analyzed in a univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. This study showed that the families’ perceived susceptibility to filariasis disease and the families’ perception of the benefits from filariasis preventive actions are influenced the health role in filariasis countermeasures (p value = 0.012 and 0.0001). However, the families’ perception of the seriousness of filariasis disease and the families’ perception of barriers in filariasis preventive action did not influence the health role in filariasis countermeasures (p value = 0.259 and 0.230). The families’ perceived benefits of preventive action were the dominant factor related to the families’ health role in filariasis countermeasures (OR = 12.863; 95% CI = 2.566–93.537) after adjusting with perceived susceptibility to diseases (OR = 8.316; 95% CI = 1.769–26.949).
