Abstract

This study examines the effect of learning perception and attitude on students' learning performance while implementing communicative language teaching (CLT) in a vocational college. The quantitative study used a survey research method with a cross-sectional design. 270 students participated in the study selected using a voluntarily random sampling technique. These research respondents were among those who had completed intermediate English classes with the amplification of the CLT method. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a four-point Likert's scaling method from very disagree (1) to very agree (4) (α = 0.843). The obtained data were analyzed using ANOVA with the assistance of IBM SPSS 25. Results showed a significant effect of learning perception (β = .890; F = 1018.849; p = 0.000) and attitude on students’ learning performance (β = .850; F = 698.468; p = 0.000). Among the two, learning attitude had been the more influential factor in students' learning performance during the implementation of CLT. This study suggested that CLT could be a catalyst for learning perception and attitude to elevate students' learning performance in the context of EFL teaching in vocational college.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to design and develop a power monitoring and load protection system based on Android as a practical solution for monitoring electricity consumption. The system employs a PZEM-004T sensor integrated with an Arduino Nano/ESP32 microcontroller to measure electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power. The measurement data are transmitted wirelessly via the Bluetooth HC-05 module to an Android application developed using Android Studio, allowing users to monitor load conditions in real time. In addition to the monitoring function, the system is equipped with a relay as an automatic protection mechanism that disconnects the load when disturbances such as overcurrent are detected. A visual indicator on the application displays the system status, showing green for normal conditions and red when a fault occurs. Testing results show that the sensor readings are close to the accuracy of a standard multimeter, with a fast and effective response in protection performance. Therefore, this system can serve as an efficient, responsive, and user-friendly solution for power monitoring and load protection, while also reducing reliance on manual inspection. Abstract

Blended learning has been identified as a highly promising instructional approachwithin vocational education institutions. The objective of this study is to examine the disparities in speaking skills learning strategies between traditional (face-to-face) instruction and blended learning. Additionally, the study seeks to ascertain the impact of these learning strategies on students' speaking abilities in both traditionaland blended learning environments. The present study employs a quantitativeresearch approach, utilizing an experimental design. The sample for this studycomprised 120 participants, 24 participants representing Politeknik PenerbanganMedan and 96 participants representing Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya. Theresults of this study suggest that the mere adoption of technology and the removalof the traditional classroom setting do not suffice in establishing an optimal learningenvironment for individuals learning a second or foreign language. Nevertheless, there exists a considerable opportunity to amalgamate conventional educationalsettings with contemporary technological advancements in order to enhancestudents' academic achievements across various abilities and sub-skills, with aparticular emphasis on oral communication proficiency. Based on the resultsobtained from the study, it is possible to draw the following conclusions: 1) Astatistically significant disparity exists in the proficiency of English speaking skillswhen employing the blended learning approach. 2) A statistically significantdiscrepancy is observed in the proficiency of English speaking skills for theexperimental group, thereby corroborating the efficacy of post-implementationlearning strategies. HIGHLIGHTS : The experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in various aspects of speaking skills, leading to a notable increase in mean speaking ability scores from pre-test to post-test, indicating anoverall enhancement of 11.80%. Conversely, the control group showed minimal improvements, reflecting a minor increase in pre-test to post-test scores. The ANOVA test results revealed no statistically significant difference in the mean initial ability scorebetween participants exposed to blended learning techniques and those receiving traditional methodsfor the pretest. However, for the posttest, a significant difference was observed, suggesting thatblended learning approaches significantly enhanced final ability scores compared to traditionalmethods. Blended learning, facilitated by multimedia sources like E-Module Aviation Speaking PreparationTest, creates a conducive learning environment and improves independent learning strategies, ultimately enhancing students' speaking achievements. Incorporating blended learning approaches in language education can lead to better learning outcomes and enhanced language proficiency, supportedby previous research demonstrating the benefits of blended learning over face-to-face teaching.Providing online resources can add value to students and improve their performance, particularly inspeaking lessons tailored to meet students' needs and interests.

Abstract

Aviation English proficiency is pivotal for aviation school students to ensure secure communication in global airspace per ICAO guidelines. Conventional methods are rigid, leading to inaccurate and time-consuming evaluations that hinder training efficacy. This research develops a web-based adaptive Aviation English proficiency test integrating adaptive algorithms like Item Response Theory and dynamic assessment to enhance aviation education outcomes. Using a mixed-methods framework with the ADDIE model and quantitative experimental approach, an explanatory sequential design with non-equivalent control group was employed, involving needs assessment, prototype development, validation, and implementation. The sample included 141 aviation school students. Data from pre/post-tests were analyzed via SPSS. The findings showed that i) the web-based test is valid and feasible as an assessment tool with a validation score of 89.5%; ii) student proficiency levels are significantly improved before and after using the adaptive system (paired t-test: mean rise from 72.6 to 91.4, t=-14.28, p=0.000 <0.05); iii) dynamic assessment positively impacts learning outcomes following implementation (32% uplift, ?=0.61, p<0.01); and iv) there is a significant difference between experimental and control groups in evaluation efficiency (independent t-test: 25% higher for experimental, t=10.52, p=0.000 <0.05). These affirm the test's efficacy, recommending broader adoption for refined aviation training.
