Abstract

In general, law enforcement on occupational safety and health  (OSH) has not been well implemented in the non-formal sector. One of them is community-based tourism. The obstacles include the absence or not yet functioning of OSH institutions. In fact, the tourism industry can easily sink due to tourists' discomfort and insecurity from disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and accidents. The purpose of community service is to assist in developing the OSH Management System at Tebing Breksi. This community service will contribute to the internalization of everyone's  OSH culture at Tebing Breksi that will impact the tourism sector's recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation method is through the advocacy approach, outreach, and assistance of the  OSH program. The result of community service is top management policies in OSH commitment, organizational structure (the committee in charge of OSH), and hazard identification training as a requirement for making SOPs. The sustainability of the OSH management system will encourage the realization of an OSH culture for every worker in tourism services.

Abstract

Background: Accidents in tourist attractions are very common, especially in natural tourism. Many factors can affect incidents at tourist attractions, whether they are factors from visitors, managers, safety facilities, or tourist locations. In 2023, there were 2 tourists who drowned because they were dragged by the flow of the Oya River in Kapanewon Imogiri, Bantul. As a result of the incident, several tourist attractions around it were temporarily closed to evaluate tourism management. For this reason, it is necessary to identify tourist safety hazards and risks. The purpose of this study is to identify the dangers and risks of swimming activities in the Oya River. Methods: this study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive type of research and uses a case study approach. The number of informants in this study amounted to 4 people consisting of 1 tourism manager, 1 land owner, and 2 tourists. Results: The results of the study show that there are types of hazards in the Kedung Parangan tourist attraction, namely gravity hazards, movement hazards, biological hazards, temperature hazards, and radiation hazards. The results of the risk assessment carried out using the risk table obtained results for all tourism activities, namely 16 low risk levels, 1 medium risk level and 1 high risk level. Conclusion: The potential danger that has a high level of risk is found in the potential danger of underheating that is at risk of cramping.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension, remain a major public health concern associated with unhealthy lifestyles and limited utilization of local resources such as family medicinal plants (TOGA). This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and skills in utilizing TOGA as a preventive strategy against hypertension. The methods included health screening through blood pressure measurement, health education on hypertension and TOGA, and hands-on training in TOGA cultivation. The activity was conducted among women aged 35–55 years in RT 26 Wonocatur. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and understanding, as reflected by their ability to explain the material and perform TOGA planting independently. The screening results also indicated the presence of participants with elevated blood pressure, highlighting the urgency of the intervention. The combination of education and practical training proved effective in enhancing community participation and awareness of NCD prevention. This approach has the potential to be developed as a sustainable community-based promotive and preventive strategy.
