Abstract

The research question is: How are traditional Timorese houses utilised as a medium for teaching chemistry, and what are the implications, challenges, and impacts? The objective of this study is to investigate the use of traditional Timorese houses as a project-based learning medium for the topic of electron configuration, which has not been extensively explored in the Nusa Tenggara Timur region. The research method employed is a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis through six systematic stages. The findings of this study are as follows: Traditional Timorese houses: a). Can be utilised as a medium for chemistry education. b). They have a symbolic relationship with electron configuration material in terms of spatial layout and the number of occupied electron shells. c). Challenges require extra time in guiding students and implementing projects according to their objectives. d). The impact on teachers is to teach students collaboratively between schools and communities, encourage students to be more proactive and innovative, and support school accreditation. The impact on students includes: improved learning outcomes, motivation, critical thinking, and social awareness, becoming more proactive, as well as students' understanding of the material and home culture.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the strategies employed in the implementation of Chem-PjBL-L-NTT-W (the Integration of NTT local wisdom in PjBL for chemistry), their effects on crucial learning skills (CLS), attitudes toward chemistry learning (ATCL), and comprehension of concepts. An investigation into students' perspectives and the difficulties encountered by teachers during implementation has been undertaken. A quantitative and qualitative research study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used based on the normality of the data obtained by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The results showed that the implementation strategy of the Chem-PjBL-L-NTT-W model was carried out through the identification and integration of the characteristics of chemistry materials with NTT local wisdom, along with the determination of three project themes for each learning material. The implementation of this model has a significant effect on CLS and ATCL, with variations in effects based on the school context. The effect on CLS was strong for senior high school students in the TTS regency, moderate in the Belu regency, and statistically significant but with a very small effect in the TTU regency. Regarding the ATCL aspect, there was a significant and strong effect in TTS, but the practical improvement was relatively minimal. In contrast, in Belu, the effect was very small and inconsistent. Students' concept comprehension in all three regencies showed significant improvement, with a range of confidence intervals indicating meaningful practical effects. Geographical location, facility and infrastructure availability, teacher readiness, school policies, and student interest have been recognized as critical determinants.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to; 1). Evaluate the effectiveness of using social media in learning. 2). Analyze the negative impact of social media utilization. 3).Recommend concrete strategies in optimizing the use of social media in terms of public administration, namely policy, resource management and public services in the field of education. The method used in this research is to use qualitative and quantitative approaches or Mixed Methods. The results of this study are; 1). Students responded that social media is very helpful in the learning process with the number of strongly agree and agree reaching 90.62%. However, it is found that more students use social media for entertainment than for learning, and this affects the psychology, character and learning outcomes of students. 2).One strategy that can be used is a self-regulation learning strategy facilitated by the teacher including; goal setting and regulatory efforts to achieve goals, time management, and regulation of the physical and social environment. 3). Recommendations are; a). Schools should have a written policy on the use of cellphones and AI in schools. b). Schools need to empower teachers and teachers' agreement on self-regulation learning strategies. c).Teachers need to improve the quality of public services in the Education sector Key Words: Social Media, Student Learning Outcomes, Public Administration. Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian untuk; 1). Mengevaluasi efektivitas penggunaan media sosial dalam pembelajaran. 2). 3). Rekomendasi yaitu; a).Sekolah harus memiliki kebijakan tertulis tentang penggunaan HP dan AI di sekolah. b).Sekolah perlu pemberdayaan guru dan kesepakatan para guru mengenai strategi belajar self regulation. c). Guru perlu meningkatkan kualitas layanan publik di sektor Pendidikan Kata Kunci: Media Sosial, Hasil Pembelajaran, Administrasi Publik.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the Discovery Learning approach on students’ learning outcomes in the topic of buffer solutions among Class XI science students at SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang, Indonesia. The research seeks to determine (1) the implementation of the Discovery Learning model in teaching buffer solution concepts, (2) students’ learning outcomes after applying the model, (3) student satisfaction with the Discovery Learning process, and (4) the effect and correlation between the use of Discovery Learning and student learning achievement. Using a descriptive-associative quantitative design, the study involved 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, achievement tests, and questionnaires, and analyzed using correlation and simple regression techniques. The results show that the implementation of Discovery Learning in chemistry lessons was categorized as good with a reliability rate of 98%, while the average learning outcome score reached 85, exceeding the school’s minimum completeness criteria of 75. Student satisfaction with the learning process was rated very good at 82%. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between the Discovery Learning approach and learning outcomes, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.40 and a regression equation of Y = 70.338 + 0.173X. These findings indicate that Discovery Learning fosters active student participation, enhances conceptual understanding of buffer solutions, and effectively improves chemistry learning outcomes.
