Abstract

The Makawa river basin located in the Rongkong watershed has an increase in surface flow which affects the discharge flow which can cause flooding. Therefore, discharge data is needed to manage existing water resources. This study aims to analyze the water discharge using the F.J. Mock and NRECA methods, which are then compared to the water estimation post discharge. The results of this study showed that the F.J. Mock method has a relative error of 48% and a correlation coefficient of 0,690 with a strong interpretation, while NRECA showed a relative error of 50% and a correlation coefficient of 0,669 with a strong interpretation. Therefore, it is concluded that the F.J. Mock method is more appropriate than the NRECA method with lower relative error results, and a higher correlation coefficient than NRECA. The result of the simulation discharge between F.J. Mock, NRACA and water estimation post discharge are quite far apart.

Abstract

Parigi Sub-district in Jonjo Village, Gowa Regency, faces challenges in the availability of clean water, just like other areas. Local communities often experience difficulties in accessing safe and quality clean water. Geographical conditions are the main obstacle in the distribution of clean water in this area. Therefore, careful planning of the clean water distribution network system is needed to meet the needs of residents and overcome the existing obstacles. This study aims to calculate the clean water needs of the Jonjo Village community, Parigi Subdistrict in 2040, and design a clean water distribution network system using EPANET 2.0 software. The results showed that the average demand for clean water in 2040 was estimated to reach 5,780 liters per second, with peak hour demand reaching 9,017 liters per second. Based on the analysis with EPANET 2.0, a network scheme was designed that includes 1 reservoir unit, 23,093 meters of pipelines with various diameters which are 114 mm, 89 mm, and 60 mm, and is equipped with 1 pressure release basin.

Abstract

PDAM Tirta Massenrempulu is the main provider of piped clean water by utilizing river and spring water as its main water source. Anggeraja sub-district experiences an increase in population every year so that the demand for raw water also increases. Therefore, discharge data is essential for managing the available water resources. The purpose of this study is to analyze the availability and demand of raw water in Anggeraja Sub-district using the FJ Mock method. Based on the results, it was found that the availability of raw water can meet the needs of the population in Anggeraja District. For instance, the projected water availability in 2034 is 74.46 m³/second. Meanwhile, the comparison between water availability and demand over the next 20 years shows a continuous increase in demand. In 2024, the available raw water is 36.65 m³/second, and by 2034, the demand rises to 66.46 m³/second. Thus, the water balance indicates a surplus, with an excess of 37.90 m³/second in 2024 and 7.90 m³/second in 2043.

Abstract

Fluid flow in piping systems with elbow joints often causes changes in flow characteristics that can lead to energy loss, so it is important to analyze this in the design of efficient piping systems. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of fluid flow in PVC and iron pipe joints with a 90° bend. The study was conducted experimentally from November to December 2024 using a fluid friction apparatus to observe the effect of changes in flow rate on pressure and flow velocity inside the pipe. Data were obtained by measuring the pressure upstream and downstream of the bend, then analyzed using the Reynolds number and Froude number approaches. The results showed that the characteristics of the PVC pipe joint 90° with the largest Froude number value of 0.314 while the iron pipe joint 90° with the largest Froude number value of 0.296. An increase in flow rate caused an increase in flow velocity and energy loss due to friction and changes in flow direction. The flow characteristics that occurred were in laminar and subcritical flow conditions. In addition, differences in pipe materials affect flow characteristics, with PVC pipes tending to produce less energy loss than iron pipes. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference in the analysis and design of piping systems, particularly in the use of 90° bends.
