Abstract

The research explored the connection between the linguistic elements and cultural principles of the Manggarai language, focusing on the provided arguments. Language utilization typically represented the societal customs, cognitive processes, cognitive functioning, historical context, and interconnections within a given human civilization. Utilizing the inclusive personal pronoun, ‘we ité’ in the Manggarai language facilitated the identification of two indicated elements (linguistic elements and cultural principles). The research applied a descriptive-qualitative method. Data were obtained using observations and interviews conducted with fifteen traditional representatives from six communities using the purposive sampling method. Subsequently, a qualitative analysis was performed on the collected data. The findings suggest that its utilization in its various manifestations indicates the cultural norms and customs observed by those living in the Manggarai region of Indonesia. Based on the presented data, the research asserts that the first personal pronoun plural inclusive ‘we ité’ in the Manggarai language and culture serves as a means for the speaker to communicate politeness and humility towards the hearer or listener. It signifies a genuine respect for the interlocutor, particularly when they hold a high position. In addition, it shows familiarity, brotherhood, and sincerity in interpersonal relationships by expressing respect, appreciation, and enthusiasm. Lastly, it serves as a profound respect to the Almighty Creator.

Abstract

However, it was found that there are still many elementary school students who have not been able to change problems in the form of mathematical modeling and are less precise in applying various problem-solving strategies. This study aims to describe the mathematization ability of elementary school students in the Ponggeok cluster of Satar Mese sub-district. This type of research is quantitative with survey method. The population in this study were all grade IV elementary school students in the Ponggeok Cluster, totaling 98 people. The research sample amounted to 58 fourth grade students who attended SDN Damu, SDK Ponggeok, and SDI Lada.  The sample was determined by purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique used is a test and the instrument is a test question in the form of a non-routine description. The data were analyzed based on the achievement of each indicator of students' mathematical ability. The results showed that students have not been able to achieve all indicators of mathematization ability. In this case, most students reach one of the stages of the mathematization ability process, namely converting problems into mathematical symbols. In addition, there are also students who only write the final result of the problem presented in the test question. In this case 28 students reached one of the stages of the mathematization ability process, namely converting problems into mathematical symbols. In addition, there are 30 students who only write the final result of the problem presented in the test question. Thus it can be said that the mathematical ability of grade IV elementary school students in the Ponggeok Cluster is still relatively low.

Abstract

The 21st-century education emphasizes a number of indicators that teachers, students, parents, and other education stakeholders should completely understand. English teachers should be encouraged to be able to integrate the intended 21st-century competency indicators into instructional materials that are preceded by a needs analysis stage. Needs analysis is crucial in designing English materials as it serves as a valuable tool for practitioners to create English materials aligned with students' target and learning needs. As a consequence, needs analysis is seen as a necessary component of the teaching practice. The purposes of this study are to examine and reveal the numerous types of students' target needs and learning needs for English material development. This study examined two English lecturers and 206 students enrolled in the primary education department. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire and the data were analyzed using a software program, namely an excel chart data series. Findings indicated that the students' target needs included necessities, lacks, and wants, whereas learning needs included input, procedure, setting, learner's role, and lecturer's role in the teaching-learning process. Students' target and learning needs emphasized the importance of developing English materials that boosted 21st-century education skills. English materials should be adjusted to meet the needs of students' future careers, with a particular emphasis on the eleven sub-skills of 21st-century education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate and disclose the integration of project-based learning in promoting high school students' ICT literacy and English learning autonomy in Ruteng, Indonesia. This study surveyed 595 students from six senior high schools in Ruteng City. The questionnaire and interview served as the primary instruments for data collection, followed by quantitative and qualitative examination of the results using Jeffreys' Amazing Statistics Program. The results of the study indicate that the level of ICT literacy among the students falls in the medium category (3.5), and English learning autonomy was included in the medium category (3.32). Sixteen statements of ICT literacy competence indicated the category of ICT literacy competence, while ten items indicated English learning autonomy. In addition, five factors challenged the respondents' achievement of ICT literacy, namely, lack of enthusiasm and initiative of students regarding digital media literacy (61.59%), lack of cost of purchasing Internet data packages (71.20%), insufficient time allocated for using specific English learning software (59.48%), unstable Internet network connectivity (58.27%), and lack of available ICT infrastructure in schools (58.33%). Various issues hinder the level at which students could acquire ICT skills, and stakeholders are encouraged to address or overcome these obstacles.

Abstract

This research was conducted to overcome teachers' problems in integrating learning activities oriented towards higher level thinking which until now has not been a priority. This research aims to analyze creative thinking skills and mathematical problem solving abilities through the application of a project-based learning model. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experiment method with posttest-only group design. The sample consisted of 53 grade V elementary school students consisting of two classes with details of the experimental class totaling 27 people and the control class totaling 26 people using random sampling techniques. Data collection techniques use test techniques. The tests used are descriptive tests both to measure creative thinking skills and for data about problem solving abilities.  Based on the reliability test results, all items are in the high category. The data analysis technique uses MANOVA with the help of SPSS 23.00. Research findings show that both separately and simultaneously the creative thinking abilities and problem solving abilities of students who receive learning using the project-based learning model are higher than students who receive learning using the conventional model. Implications of this research shows that project-based learning (PBL) can improve students' abilities in critical, creative, analytical thinking and complex problem solving.

Abstract

Computer-based Mathematics Learning (CBML) has become global in the last decade, providing opportunities for more significant interaction between schools and their environment. Although CBML has been widely applied, few studies highlight its growth trajectory, especially high-quality studies and those in the Scopus document. This study identifies CBML-related research that can provide a global perspective on learning and the development of the further investigation. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify 651 journal articles between 2010 and 2023 using the Scopus database. Data search uses the publish or perish application, and the VOS viewer program assists in analyzing theme linkages. This research addresses two issues: (i) reviewing the growth trajectory of CBML-related studies; and (ii) mapping between themes to identify gaps and the most important topics. The analysis results show that the study's trajectory appears fluid and is mediated by the impact of social restrictions due to Covid-19. The main topics and research gaps are discussed. Several implications are presented as helpful information for scientists and stakeholders.
