Abstract

The Influence Of The Discovery Learning Model Assisted With Power Point Media On Students' Activities And Learning Outcomes On The Subject Of Colloids. This research aims to determine the influence of learning outcomes and student activities. The population and sample in this study were two classes of class XI high school students in the city of Medan, namely class XI4 as the experimental class and XI1 as the control class. The data taken in this research are test instruments in objective form and scores on student learning activity observation sheets. The research results show that there is a difference between the experimental class taught using the Discovery Learning model assisted by Power Point media compared to the control class which only uses conventional methods. This can be proven from the posttest average score for experimental class learning outcomes which is higher than the control class. Likewise, the learning activity of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. From the results of the posttest hypothesis test using the t-test, it was found that tcount>ttable = 5,457 > 2.04. The results of students' learning activities in the experimental class obtained an average of 75.3 and the control class 52.7. It can be concluded that there is an influence of the Discovery Learning learning model assisted by Power Point media on students' activities and learning outcomes on the subject of colloids. Keywords: Learning Outcomes, Activities, Discovery Learning, Power PointDOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13i2.29716

Abstract

People consider rice husks as agricultural waste. In Deliserdang Regency, in one year's period, 12,600 tons of ash are collected from the burning of around 70,000 tons of rice husk. The synthesis of zeolite from ash of rice husks was carried out by starting process of forming sodium silicate and aluminate compounds through the reaction with Al2O3 and NaOH in water on the room temperature for 10 hours. The results of reaction is refluxed at 70 C for 3 hours. After being stored for around 12 hours at room temperature, the reflux process was continued at 120 C for 8 hours. Infrared spectra of zeolite show an infrared absorption band in the area of around 440; 606; 745; and 1007 cm-1 which is the typical infrared absorption of zeolite X. This is supported by the XRD diffractogram with the diffraction peaks at 2 degree of 12.34; 17.51; 21.53; 27.90; 28.50 and 33.22 degrees.

Abstract

Abstract

In North Sumatra, the stem of the secang (Caesalpinia Sappan L) has been used in traditional medicine. This study aimed to conduct phytochemical analysis of the acetone extract of C. sappan and determine its antibacterial potency. Phytochemical test using 1H-NMR spectroscopy method andantibacterial activity were carried out on six pathogenic bacteria, including paper disc diffusion tests, determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) using the microdilution method, and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Based on 1H-NMR spectroscopic data, the acetone stem extract of C. Sappan L contains flavonoids and terpenoids and has activity against all tested bacteria with an inhibition zone in the range of 6.20 ± 0.53 - 10.93 ± 2.55 mm, MIC 312 - 5000 µg / mL and MBC 625-> 5000 µg / mL. The acetone extract of C. sappan showed the best activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923 with a MIC of 312 µg / mL. C. sappan L is a potential source of new antibacterial compounds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives of students from the Department of Mathematics enrolled in a General Chemistry class regarding the use of young coconut water as a natural remedy to treat fever symptoms. The research is grounded in the widespread trust of Indonesian society in herbal medicine, particularly young coconut water, which has been traditionally used across generations to treat various health conditions, including fever. Young coconut water is known to contain vital nutrients such as electrolytes (potassium, sodium, magnesium), B-complex vitamins, and vitamin C, which help lower body temperature naturally, especially during dehydration caused by fever. A quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method was employed. The data were collected using a closed questionnaire based on a Likert scale, which was tested for validity and reliability, achieving a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.977-indicating a high level of reliability. Results showed that students' average scores in knowledge (3.90), understanding (3.81), attitude (3.89), and application (3.87) were all in the high category. This indicates that students not only understand the benefits of young coconut water but also grasp scientific concepts related to electrolyte function in fluid balance and immune response. Despite the high scores, some misconceptions persist. For example, a few students believe young coconut water can entirely replace medical treatment or that higher consumption leads to faster healing without regard for appropriate dosage. This highlights the need for improved science-based health literacy. The study concludes that continuous health education through lectures, seminars, and healthy campus campaigns integrating both traditional and medical approaches is essential. These findings are significant in promoting the wise and measurable use of natural remedies like young coconut water while avoiding misuse. Furthermore, the results can serve as a basis for future research, such as clinical trials or laboratory comparisons with other rehydration fluids, and can help develop health promotion policies in academic settings to encourage smart and healthy decision-making among students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes and activities of students in chemistry material, especially electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions, which are caused by the dominance of conventional learning methods and the lack of use of innovative digital media. The research was conducted at SMAS Budisatrya in the 2024/2025 academic year. The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the effect of implementing a problem-based learning model assisted by Google Sites media on improving student learning outcomes; (2) to determine the effect of implementing a problem-based learning model assisted by Google Sites media on student learning activities; (3) to determine the relationship between learning activities and student learning outcomes in electrolyte and non-electrolyte solution material. The population in this study was all class X of SMAS Budisatrya. Sampling was carried out using a random sampling technique and the classes used were class X-2 as the experimental class and X-3 as the control class. Hypothesis testing was carried out using a right-sided one-tailed t-test. The results of the study at a significance level of α = 0.05 showed that Sig (2-tailed) <0.05 (0.000 <0.05) then Ha was accepted, there was an increase in student learning outcomes taught with the Problem Based Learning learning model assisted by Google Sites Media on the material of Electrolyte and Non-Electrolyte Solutions. The average increase in student learning outcomes in the experimental class was 77.21% with a high category and the average increase in student learning outcomes in the control class was 50% with a moderate category. The correlation test of learning activities on improving student learning outcomes showed Sig (2-tailed) = 0.002 at a significance level of α = 0.05, then Ha was accepted, there was a correlation between learning activities and improving learning outcomes.
