Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers’ strategies in implementing shading techniques through a demonstration approach in visual arts learning at SD Negeri Cicurug. The focus of the research includes lesson planning, implementation, students’ responses and engagement, challenges encountered, and the teachers’ efforts to address them. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation over a three-month period (September–November 2026). Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation as well as member checking.  The findings indicate that the teacher prepared systematic lesson planning aligned with the visual and procedural characteristics of shading techniques. During the implementation stage, the demonstration approach effectively helped students understand stroke direction, pencil pressure control, and the creation of light–dark gradations more concretely. Students’ responses were positive, as reflected in their enthusiasm, active participation, and improvement in the quality of their artwork. The identified challenges included differences in students’ initial abilities, limited practice time, and variations in fine motor skills. To address these challenges, the teacher provided individual guidance, repeated demonstrations on difficult parts, and offered additional visual examples. Overall, the implementation of shading techniques through the demonstration approach at SD Negeri Cicurug was considered fairly effective and contributed to improving students’ drawing skills, creativity, accuracy, and aesthetic appreciation at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the environmental awareness of fifth-grade students at Nagrak State Elementary School through mutual cooperation (gotong royong) activities. The main problem identified in the field was the high level of environmental moral degradation among students, such as littering and neglect of classroom cleanliness. The research was conducted in two cycles using the Kemmis and McTaggart model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and a Likert-scale questionnaire from a random sample of 30 students. The results showed a consistent and gradual increase in the average environmental awareness, from an initial level of 43.2% in pre-cycle 1 to a significant increase of 76.2% at the end of cycle 2. The use of peer group dynamics and concrete actions proved effective in shifting theoretical paradigms to pro-environmental behavior.

Abstract

Traditional Sukabumi games, often referred to as kaulinan barudak, are a cultural heritage inherited from our ancestors. Besides being enjoyable for children, traditional games also offer significant benefits for child development, such as fostering positive character. However, many traditional Sukabumi games are now being abandoned as children prefer more modern games. This study attempts to examine the instilling of character education in elementary school children through traditional games. The research method used was a qualitative study with a literature review design. Data collection techniques used were a literature review with descriptive data analysis. The results of this study, based on the review of 12 journal articles, all indicate that traditional Sukabumi games such as sondah, congklak, perepet jengkol, and bekel can be used as a medium for developing children's character. These games instill positive character values such as honesty, mutual cooperation, perseverance, discipline and adherence to rules, patience, and sportsmanship.

Abstract

The background of this study stems from a primary challenge faced by both novice and experienced teachers classroom management. Classroom management is a crucial skill that enables teachers to understand, assess, and improve the classroom atmosphere. This is particularly important because student behavior constantly evolves over time. This study aims to describe the classroom management skills employed by the teacher to foster learning motivation among third-grade students at SDN Pasirjati, as well as the challenges faced in implementing effective classroom management for this purpose. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data analysis follows the interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman, comprising three main stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The findings indicate that the classroom management skills practiced by the teacher align with components known to foster student learning motivation. However, the teacher faces several challenges, including diverse student characteristics, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and issues related to instructional time specifically, a lack of student focus during afternoon lessons.
