Abstract

The rapid flow of industrialization in several sectors, including education, educational institutions, especially PTKI, must balance the education system with the times, which is expected to be able to give birth to creative and innovative students. This research is a field study that aims to reveal the concept of MBKM at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the Head of the Study Program, the Head of LPM, the Dean, and the Students. This article aims to analyze the concept of independent learning on an independent campus (MBKM) in more depth, tracing the industrial mindset at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The study results show that the industrialization of education is conspicuous in the MBKM policy implemented at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This is seen from the industrial factor, which is of great concern in educational design, meaning that national education only determines students to become skilled workers as the main objective, contrary to the objectives of national education in Bill 20 of 2003, which contains that the purpose of education is to form character and personality as a priority as teachings in Islam. The MBKM programs at UIN Sunan Kalijaga also emphasize that skilled workers must meet the demands of the business and industrial world as an integral part of alleviating unemployment. It is different from the teachings of Islam through the continuous messages of Muslim scholars that education aims to give birth to perfect humans.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a contextual approach-based Fiqh E-Module and test its effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method which includes the stages of validation by material and media experts, module improvement based on validator suggestions, and implementation through trials using a Quasi Experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 29 grade X students at MA Muhammadiyah 2 Malang, which were divided into experimental and control classes. The validation results showed that the module was considered very feasible with a percentage of 92% from the material aspect and 88% from the media aspect. The pilot test showed a significant increase in student learning outcomes in the experimental class, which used the E-Module, compared to the control class that followed learning without the module. The average post-test score of the experimental class was 93.29, much higher than the control class with an average of 48.35. The results of the user response questionnaire show that students are very enthusiastic and feel helped by the use of modules in the learning process. In conclusion, the developed E-Module effectively improves student learning outcomes and is suitable for use as learning media.

Abstract

Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has caused difficulties that have not been resolved by the school and family, failing to develop social care characters in students. The presence of teachers who are not ready to teach online due to inadequate abilities and facilities Learning activities to develop Students' Social Care during the COVID-19 period have created various difficulties for teachers, parents, and students. Challenges that are not responded to appropriately by schools and families have resulted in low social care characteristics. This paper aimed to describe the social care character of students and analyzed the role of schools (teachers) and families (parents) during the learning process. This paper is research on data collected through an open questionnaire and online interviews. An open questionnaire was given to 24  students from three high schools in Malang, East Java Province. In addition, data were also obtained from ten teachers and nine parents. Teachers and parents have difficulty developing social care characters, resulting in the students' low social care character. The selection of the suitable learning model during the pandemic and harmonious cooperation between schools and families become a determinant of success in the learning process of students' social care characters. Thus, the online learning process should change the mindset of teachers and parents that the teacher-centred learning process is not suitable for a student-based learning process as learning actors who have the authority to seek and produce knowledge.

Abstract

This research discusses the re-actualization of Islamic teachings in Indonesia as proposed by Munawir Sjadzali. Munawir Sjadzali was an Indonesian Islamic intellectual and bureaucrat who served as the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia for two terms, from 1983 to 1993. The re-actualization of Islamic teachings conducted by Munawir Sjadzali was inspired by the Islamic reform movement previously championed by thinkers and reformers such as Muhammad Abduh and Rasyid Ridho. This study is a type of library research using descriptive-analytical methods. The results of the study reveal that the re-actualization of Islamic teachings from Munawir Sjadzali's perspective does not mean moving Islam away from the axis of classical ijtihad, but rather an effort to ensure that Islamic teachings are always contextual with the conditions of Muslims in Indonesia (shalih likulli zaman wa makan). Specifically, Munawir Sjadzali offers three methods of ijtihad in the reform of Islamic law: first, 'adat, used in issues of inheritance distribution by considering the socio-economic conditions of Indonesian society and the roles of men and women; second, nasakh (abrogation) on issues of slavery that are inconsistent or contradictory to human rights; and third, mashlahah (public interest) on the issue of bank interest. In this regard, Munawir Sjadzali accepts bank interest on the grounds of mashlahah, but he remains accommodative towards the establishment of Bank Mu'amalah and Sharia Rural Banks (BPR Syariah) with the principle of trade partnership while adhering to prevailing banking regulations.

Abstract

Purpose – This article aims to analyze the influence of the Islamic school environment on students' prosocial behavior, with an emphasis on the integration of religious values in learning strategies and school policies. Design/methods/approach – This study used a sequential explanatory mixed-method design involving 445 students, four principals, and eight teachers from four Islamic junior high schools. The quantitative stage used structured questionnaires to assess prosocial behavior, school climate, and classroom learning practices. The qualitative stage involved interviews with principals and teachers to provide contextual understanding. Findings – Quantitative results show that the school atmosphere explains 27.2% of the variation in students' prosocial behavior (R² = .272). The most influential factors are peer relationships (β = .173), sense of belonging (β = .148), and interpersonal justice (β = .123). For classroom practices, positive teaching (β = .353) and teacher encouragement (β = .113) made significant contributions. Qualitative findings support these results, with teachers and principals citing programs such as 5S, study groups, and Friday donations as effective ways to foster empathy, cooperation, and concern among students. Research implications/limitations – This study highlights the importance of an Islamic-based environment in encouraging prosocial behavior, although the findings may not be generalized to non-Islamic educational contexts. Originality/value – This study offers valuable insights into the intersection between religion and education, and contributes to strategies for developing prosocial behavior in Islamic school.

Abstract

This article discusses the Western perspective on Islamic studies, particularly through the academic legacy of Snouck Hurgronje, a Dutch scholar known for his research on Muslim culture in Aceh and his influence on the Dutch colonial strategy in the Dutch East Indies. The author aims to answer two questions: what were the methods and characteristics of Islamic studies used by Snouck Hurgronje, and how do they differ from contemporary Islamic studies? Utilizing library research, it examines scholarly literature on Hurgronje, comparing his methods to current Islamic studies practices in Western universities and Indonesia. The article sheds light on Hurgronje’s role in introducing anthropology and ethnography to Islamic studies, noting his significant contributions to the development of ethnographic methods in this area. It suggests that his approach has been influential in shaping the study of Islam and continues to influence contemporary research methodologies in the field. However, the article also notes that 21st-century Islamic studies are fundamentally different from Hurgronje’s era, with a greater focus on insider researchers and a lack of imperialistic interests. These scholars, particularly those in Indonesian universities under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, have a significant influence on the field and continue the legacy of Hurgronje by using philological, anthropological, and ethnographic approaches to Islamic studies.

Abstract

The theoretical construction about Alquran mufassir’s formal prerequirement almost always appears to give the absolute right for explaining God’s ‘kalam’ (ayah) to only the professional mufassir; although it should be learnt for all people especially Moslem. This is indeed an ironic since, in fact, in every period, there found one or more books/works which try to comprehend – if it cannot be called explaining – Alquran. In reality, the authors of those books did not have the so-called ‘legal certification’ to do it. M. Dawam Rahardjo, the courageous Economist, then appeared in the period when people weirdly look upon others who are lack of Arabic skills (exactly in Alquran). He tried to propose an alternative about Alquran interpretation (tafsir) which is different, or even deviate, from the theoretical construction and likely can be helpful for Moslem’s thoughts.

Abstract

This article discusses the dynamics of dualism in Islamic education in Indonesia, which lasted from the colonial period to the modern era. This dualism is reflected in the separation between public schools and madrasahs, each of which has different curriculum characteristics, management, and educational goals. Public schools tend to focus on mastering science and technology, while madrasahs emphasize in-depth religious education, although both have the same national goal of educating the nation's life and shaping the character of students. Through a desk research approach and historical analysis, this article reviews the historical roots of dualism, government policies, and curriculum comparisons between the two institutions. It is found that this difference causes challenges in the integration of the education system, especially regarding management, quality of resources, and public perceptions. However, through the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly through P5 and P5RA, there are efforts to unify religious and national values in the education system. This article recommends the importance of synergy between schools and madrasahs in order to achieve inclusive and sustainable national education quality.
