Abstract

This studyaims to analyze the strategies and implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) based on Islamic boarding schools in developing the spiritual intelligence of students at Wahid Hasyim Junior High School. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type to gain an in-depth understanding of the process, strategies, and practices of PAI learning in the context of school life. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the development of students' spiritual intelligence was carried out through four main strategies, namely the habit of worship (dhuha prayer, congregational prayer, memorization of Juz 30, and worship practices), integration of spiritual values in each PAI subject (fiqh, aqidah akhlak, and the Qur'an), the application of contextual learning, and the strengthening of the school's religious culture, such as pilgrimage activities to the tomb of KH. Wahid Hasyim in Jombang. This implementation not only improves students' cognitive understanding of Islamic teachings, but also encourages the internalization of spiritual values in daily life such as discipline, responsibility, empathy, and noble character. Thus, this pesantren-based PAI model has proven effective in forming a balance between students' intellectual and spiritual aspects and can be a strategic alternative in strengthening character education in formal educational institutions.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the potential for social segregation due to differences in Islamic mass organization (Ormas) affiliations in Indonesia, which often trigger differences in religious practices. In Masohi City, this phenomenon is bridged through the "Baca Doa" tradition, a practice of Living Qur’an that unites various Islamic organizations (NU, Muhammadiyah, LDII, and Jamaah Tabligh) in one gathering. The main problem in this study is how the process of informal Islamic education and the internalization of moderation values take place amidst the diversity of these organizations through the mediation of local customs. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of Islamic education within the "Baca Doa" tradition, identify the values of moderation (wasathiyyah) being instilled, and map the supporting and inhibiting factors in the context of the indigenous community of Masohi City. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive ethnographic type. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with customary and religious leaders, and documentation studies, which were then analyzed using James Spradley's Developmental Research Sequence (DRS) model. The results show that the "Baca Doa" tradition functions as an effective medium for informal Islamic education through the processes of Tarbiyah and Ta’dib. Moderation values such as Tasamuh (tolerance), Ukhuwah (brotherhood), and egalitarianism (through the Tamelang tradition) are strongly internalized. This study concludes that the integration between the theological values of the Qur'an and the local wisdom of Masohi Custom has successfully created social cohesion and serves as an adaptive model of religious moderation in a multicultural region.

Abstract

Community-based religious gatherings such as majlis dzikir have long played an important role in the transmission of Islamic values within Muslim societies. However, their educational function as a medium of non-formal Islamic education has received limited scholarly attention. This study examines the internalization of Islamic educational values in the Majlis Dzikir Fitrah Al-Fahmi community located in Gawerejo Village, Karangbinangun District, Lamongan Regency. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research explores how spiritual, moral, and social values are cultivated through collective dhikr practices and religious interaction. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with twelve informants including the mursyid, community religious figures, and active congregation members and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Majlis Dzikir Fitrah Al-Fahmi functions as a dynamic model of community-based Islamic education in which the values of tauhid, worship, morality, and social solidarity are internalized through spiritual habituation, exemplary leadership, dialogical learning, and communal participation. These practices foster character formation, spiritual awareness, and social responsibility among participants. The study contributes to the discourse on Islamic education by demonstrating that informal religious assemblies can serve as effective spaces for character education and value internalization beyond formal educational institutions. The findings also suggest practical implications for educators and community leaders in developing participatory and spiritually grounded models of Islamic character education within contemporary society.

This research aims to analyze the formation of students' religious character through religious activities at MTs Hidayatul Ummah and MTs Mambaus Sholihin 5 Balongpanggang. This research uses a qualitative approach with a multisite case study type. Data was collected through observation, interviews and documentation involving school principals, teachers and students. Data analysis was carried out descriptively with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, and its validity was tested through triangulation and diligent observation. The results of the research show that the formation of religious character is carried out through teacher example, habituation to religious activities, and instilling discipline. Activities such as congregational prayers, murojaah, and moral training are the main means of internalizing religious values, and are supported by cooperation between schools and parents. The impact can be seen in the formation of honest attitudes, discipline, humility, tolerance and a firm personality in students.

Abstract

The backwardness of the Islamic world following the 18th-century stagnation spurred the emergence of reformist thought (tajdid). In this context, Muhammad Abduh emerged as a monumental figure who believed education was the primary instrument for the revival of the Muslim community, by holistically reconstructing its educational goals. This study aims to analyze and develop the concept of the goals of Islamic education according to Muhammad Abduh through library research with a philosophical approach. Operationally, these goals are implemented at three levels: (1) the elementary level to eradicate illiteracy and instill the foundations of religion; (2) the middle level to prepare responsible professionals; and (3) the high level to produce qualified leaders and educators. This goal concept is supported by an integral curriculum that combines religious knowledge (aqidah, fiqh, morals) with rational knowledge (logic, history, Arabic), as well as varied and anti-taqlid learning methods. Abduh's contributions to the development of Islamic educational theory are manifested through four pillars: purification (purification of teachings), institutional reform, reformulation of the ijtihad method, and the integration of religious knowledge with modern science. Thus, Abduh's concept of educational goals offers a progressive, contextual, and relevant framework to address the challenges of contemporary Islamic education, which is still struggling to eliminate the dichotomy of knowledge and integrate spiritual values with intellectual progress.
