Abstract

In general, various human activities cause eutrophication in water bodies. Lentic system is vulnerable to discharge of pollutants from surrounding areas. Similar scenarios most likely occur in Polder Air Hitam Lake in Samarinda City. The goal of this study was to investigate the trophic status of this urban lake using modified Carlson index with the indicator of chlorophyll-a and total phosphate/ Spatially the variation of chlorophyll-a was 32.6 – 97.3 µg/L, and total phosphate was 0,141 – 0,225 mg/L. The calculation of Carlson trophic state index resulted 73.78, which indicated hypereutrophic status. This condition was not ideal for a healthy lentic system. In the future a related treatment is required to optimize multiple functions of this urban lake.

Abstract

Aquatic insects are known as insects that spend part of their lives in water. Water insects are very important for ecological systems because they are often used as indicators of pollution levels in waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the types of aquatic insects and how the level of diversity, evenness and dominance of aquatic insects in the Aquaculture Experimental Pond. Five orders and seven families of aquatic insects were found in water hyacinth leaf litter. The results of the calculation of the diversity index in water hyacinth leaf litter are in the low and medium categories, for the evenness index in the low category and for the dominance index in the low to high category.

Abstract

The increasing use of plastic causes an increase in plastic waste in the environment, especially waters. Plastic waste that enters the waters will then be degraded into polymers less than 5 mm called as microplastics.  The purpose of this study was to determine the content of microplastics and sediment and the relationship between microplastics in sediment in an urban river of Samarinda City. Sampling was carried out at 3 stations, then sample analysis was carried out at the Water Quality Laboratory of Mulawarman University. Based on the results of the research obtained, the types of microplastics found are fiber, fragments, films and microbeads. The most type of microplastic was found is film. The mean concentration of microplastic in the sediment was 1322,22 particles/kg.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis ispring suite pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar ditinjau dari aspek kelayakan, aspek kepraktisan dan keefektifan. Penelitian menggunakan metode R&D yaitu (Research and Development), dan menggunakan model desain pembelajaran ADDIE (Analysis, Desaign, Development, Implementation dan Evaluation). Media yang dikembangkan menggunakan software ispring suite, yaitu perangkat lunak yang digunakan untuk menciptakan media pembelajaran interaktif berupa penyajian materi, video materi, latihan soal, dan quiz. Subjek uji coba pada penelitian ini menggunakan uji coba perorangan dan kelompok kecil. Uji coba perorangan yaitu 3 peserta didik kelas VIII Madrasah Tsanawiyah dan untuk uji coba kelompok kecil yaitu 13 peserta didik kelas VIII Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Hasil penelitian ini menurut penilaian ahli media dan ahli materi menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran berbasis ispring suite memperoleh kriteria layak digunakan dengan skor rata-rata 4,1. Adapun hasil uji coba yang dilakukan kepada uji coba perorangan dan uji coba kelompok kecil menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran berbasis ispring suite memperoleh kriteria sangat praktis dengan skor rata-rata 4,3. Media pembelajaran berbasis ispring suite juga memperoleh kriteria sangat efektif dengan skor rata-rata N-gain 0,87 berdasarkan hasil tes uji coba perorangan dan hasil tes uji coba kelompok kecil.

Abstract

Somber River is one of the rivers with mangrove ecosystem in Balikpapan city. The high human activity in Somber River area may produce waste and heavy metal pollution in mangrove ecosystem, especially in sediment. The purpose of this study is to determine the concentration of Fe, Mn and Zn in mangrove sediments. In addition, the values of pollution indices such as contamination level (TK), pollution load index (IBP) and geoaccumulation index (I-Geo) in sediments are also determined along Somber river, Balikpapan city. The research method used in this study is purposive sampling. Sediment samples were taken from 9 sampling points along Somber river. Sediment samples were deconstructed using acid and analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) Aurora AI 1200 to determine the concentration of Fe, Mn, and Zn based on dry weight in µg/g. Based on the analysis, it was found that the Fe concentration in the sediment ranged from 5403 to 12268 µg/g with an average of 9462 ± 2294 µg/g. In Mn, the concentration value was between 2,25 and 23,2 µg/g with an average of 11,4 ± 7,43 µg/g. Then, the Zn concentration was between 16,6 and 61,3 µg/g, with an average of 43,4 ± 17,4 µg/g. The varying concentrations of Fe, Mn and Zn might be related to several human activities, such as industrial activities, boat docks, settlements, fisheries, ports and metal distribution from the Somber river. The concentrations of Mn and Fe at all research stations were lower than the sediment quality standards, except for Fe. The level of Fe, Mn and Zn contamination in sediments was low (TK<1) and not polluted (IBP<1) and the geoaccumulation index (I-geo) was not polluted to polluted (0<I-geo<1).

Abstract

The Karang Mumus River, located in East Kalimantan, serves as an essential resource for the local community, supporting fisheries, trade, and household activities. However, these uses contribute to waste accumulation, potentially impacting the river's water quality. Tidal movements play a crucial role in water circulation, with the river's flow influenced by the Mahakam River’s tides, leading to backwater flow during high tide. This tidal phase affects the dispersion of pollutants. This study aims to assess the water quality, Pollution Index, and variations in water conditions between high and low tide in the Karang Mumus River. Sampling was conducted at three research stations: Station 1 (Gelatik Bridge), Station 2 (Perniagaan Bridge), and Station 3 (Selili Bridge) from September to November 2023. Water quality measurements were performed both in situ (on-site) and ex situ (at the Water Quality Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Mulawarman University). The analysis follows Government Regulation (PP) No. 22 of 2021 on Environmental Protection and Management (Appendix VI). Results indicate that the DO and COD parameters only meet class III-IV water quality standards, while color, temperature, TDS, TSS, BOD, total phosphate, and nitrate comply with class I-IV standards. The Pollution Index (IP) assessment, based on class I-IV quality standards, categorizes the Karang Mumus River as meeting quality standards to lightly polluted, with an IP range of 0.53 - 2.90. According to Minister of Environment Decree No. 115 of 2003, water meeting quality standards has an IP of 0 < IP < 1.0, while lightly polluted water falls within 1 < IP < 5.

Abstract

Plastic waste is the type of waste that is most commonly found in our environment. Plastic waste that decomposes and degrades into smaller particles is called microplastic. Small-sized microplastics (<5 mm) can accumulate in water sediments and are difficult to decompose, making this material remain in the environment for a long time. This research aims to determine the microplastic content in the sediment of the main gate garden pond and FEB garden pond at Mulawarman University. This research was carried out for 3 months starting from determining the research location until microplastic analysis. The research location was determined by purposive sampling in 2 garden ponds with 5 stations in each pond. Analysis of microplastic content in sediment was carried out using a separation method based on specific gravity using NaCl solution. Microplastic identification was carried out using a stereo microscope (8-16x magnification). The results of this research show that the types of microplastics found were fiber, fragments and films with the dominant type of microplastic being fiber. The highest abundance of microplastics was found in the FEB garden pond at 4,350 particles/kg, while in the main gate garden pond, it was 3,800 particles/kg.

Abstract

Drone merupakan instrumen penerbangan tanpa awak yang digunakan manusia untuk kegiatan survei lingkungan seperti pertanian, pesisir dan laut, dan mitigasi bencana. Salah satu jenis drone yang memiliki terobosan terbaru untuk survei lingkungan adalah drone DJI Matrice 350 RTK. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memperkenalkan dan melatih pengambilan foto udara dengan menggunakan drone DJI M350 RTK. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di Integrated Laboratory (I-Lab) Universitas Mulawarman pada tanggal 22 Agustus 2024. Peserta kegiatan ini berasal dari latar belakang yang berbeda, seperti akademisi, mahasiswa dan masyarakat yang berprofesi sebagai wiraswasta. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan beberapa tahapan seperti pembukaan, presentasi, diskusi, praktek terbang, pengambilan foto udara, penggabungan gambar, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan ini diukur dengan melakukan pre-test dan post-test pada setiap peserta. Kegiatan pengenalan dan pelatihan pengambilan foto udara dikegiatan ini belangsung dengan baik dan lancar. Sekitar 90,3% para peserta berhasil mengikuti kegiatan ini terutama dalam mengoperasikan drone dan mengolah data hasil pengambilan foto udara. Sebagian besar peserta sangat puas (81,0%) dengan dilakukannya kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini. Drones are unmanned flight instruments used by humans for environmental survey activities such as agriculture, coastal and marine, and disaster mitigation. One type of drone that has the latest breakthrough for environmental surveys is the DJI Matrice 350 RTK drone. The objectives of this community service activity are to introduce and train aerial photography using the DJI Matrice 350 RTK drone. This activity was carried out at the Integrated Laboratory (I-Lab) of Mulawarman University on 22 August 2024. The participants of this activity came from different backgrounds, such as academics, students and people who work as entrepreneurs. The activity was carried out with several stages such as opening, presentation, discussion, practice flying, taking aerial photos, merging images, and evaluating activities. The success rate of this activity was measured by conducting a pre-test and post-test on each participant. The introduction and training of aerial photography in this activity went well and smoothly. Approximately 90.3% of the participants successfully participated in this activity, especially using drones and processing data from aerial photography. The majority of participants were very satisfied (81.0%) with this community service activity.

Abstract

Indonesia memiliki banyak pantai dan laut salah satunya pantai Monpera di Kota Balikpapan Kalimantan Timur yang menjadi lokasi penelitian. Pantai di Indonesia saat ini kondisinya cukup memprihatinkan karena banyaknya sampah. Sampah memiliki berbagai macam ukuran salah satunya yaitu mesodebris dengan ukuran > 5 mm sampai 2,5 cm yang menjadi sampel penelitian. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis, jumlah dan berat, kepadatan, komposisi dan perbandingan jumlah kepadatan sampah mesodebris di sedimen pantai Monpera pada dua periode pemantauan yang mewakili dua musim, yaitu musim peralihan Barat ke Timur pada bulan Maret dan musim Timur pada bulan Agustus 2022. Metode pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode purposive sampling dan random sampling dengan transek sepanjang 100 meter dan lebar 5 meter, sub transek berukuran 5x5 meter serta sub sub transek berukuran 1x1 meter. Hasil jenis sampah mesodebris yang didapatkan ada 5 jenis, yaitu plastik, kaca dan keramik, logam, kertas, dan bahan lainnya. Jenis sampah mesodebris pada musim peralihan Barat ke Timur di bulan Maret yang memiliki jumlah kepadatan sampah yang tertinggi adalah jenis sampah kaca dan keramik (2,28 item/m2). Jenis sampah mesodebris pada musim Timur di bulan Agustus yang memiliki jumlah kepadatan sampah yang tertinggi adalah jenis kaca dan keramik (3,80 item/m2). Hasil uji Mann Whitney diperoleh nilai sig > 0,05 yang berarti tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan jumlah rata-rata kepadatan sampah mesodebris antara dua periode pemantauan yang mewakili dua musim yaitu pada musim peralihan Barat ke Timur di bulan Maret dan musim Timur di bulan Agustus.

Abstract

Setiap perusahaan pertambangan diwajibkan untuk menyusun rencana pasca tambang yang terintegrasi dengan studi kelayakan untuk memastikan bahwa kegiatan pasca tambang dilakukan secara bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai kesesuaian Dokumen Studi Kelayakan dan Dokumen Rencana Pasca tambang terhadap pelaksanaan pasca tambang, menganalisis kendala-kendala dalam pelaksanaan pasca tambang dan merumuskan rekomendasi strategis untuk keberhasilan program pasca tambang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi sajian literatur, observasi lapangan, dan wawancara dengan pihak terkait. Terdapat 3 program utama dalam pasca tambang yakni Reklamasi, Reklamasi Bentuk Lain dan Program Pemberdayaan Masyarakat. Namun, hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat ketidaksesuaian antara dokumen studi kelayakan dan dokumen rencana pasca tambang dan ketidaksesuaian terhadap pemanfaatan kolam bekas tambang (void) yaitu pada void ex Seam 22GS (kolam cinta) yang belum memenuhi baku mutu air limbah. Rekomendasi strategis untuk meningkatkan efektivitas keberhasilan program pasca tambang yakni penyamaan persepsi dokumen, Pedoman Pengembangan Informatif dan Pengelolaan, sehingga keberhasilan program pasca tambang dapat berjalan dengan efektif sesuai dengan rencana.
