Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to determine the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from anchovy (Stolephorus sp.) boiling wastewater fermented with EM4 on the growth of spinach (Amaranthus sp.). The LOF was formulated using five EM4 concentrations (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%) along with a control without LOF. The observed parameters included fresh weight, dry weight, and water content of spinach plants during approximately 30 days of cultivation. The results showed that the 5% EM4 treatment (P1) produced the most favorable effect, yielding a fresh weight of 5.4 g and a dry weight of 0.57 g. ANOVA indicated that the treatments had a significant effect on spinach growth. Despite its relatively low nutrient content, the LOF from anchovy boiling wastewater demonstrated effectiveness, presumably due to the presence of bioactive compounds and the activity of fermentative microorganisms.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the growth responses of two local Madurese maize varieties, Talangu and Elos, grown in media contaminated with polypropylene (PP) microplastics, and to identify the variety that showed better adaptive capacity during the early growth stage. The experiment was conducted using a 2 × 2 factorial completely randomized design with three replications. The tested factors consisted of maize variety, namely Talangu and Elos, and growth media condition, namely without PP contamination and with PP contamination. Observations were carried out at 5, 10, and 15 days after sowing on plant height, number of leaves, root length, and plant fresh weight. The results showed that polypropylene microplastic contamination affected the growth responses of both varieties, although the magnitude of the effect varied depending on the observed parameter. In general, the Talangu variety exhibited better growth performance in plant height, root length, shoot fresh weight, and root fresh weight, whereas the Elos variety was relatively better at maintaining leaf number under contaminated conditions. These findings indicate that plant responses to polypropylene contamination are parameter-specific and influenced by varietal differences. Based on the overall early growth responses, the Talangu variety can be considered more tolerant to polypropylene microplastic contamination than the Elos variety.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) is implemented based on a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Madura Islamic University and East Pademawu Village. The coaching program carried out is related to landscape learning materials. The purpose of providing landscape design materials for East Pademawu BUMDes is to improve landscape design insight and skills, to optimize the function and beauty and role of local village education parks so that they can support BUMDes administrators towards independent villages. Service activities in the form of providing materials and training followed by distributing questionnaires (based on a Likert scale whose score has been determined) to measure the level of achievement of socialization and training carried out. The location for the design is the backyard of the East Pademawu Village Hall office. The results of the participants' assessment of the benefits of the training through observation sheets showed an increase in the benefits, soft skills of BUMDes participants and the quality of local village facilities and infrastructure with a percentage of 83%. Participants showed enthusiasm and activity in the good category and agreed on the educational park landscape plan that had been optimally designed on village land. However, for mastery of material, creativity and conveying ideas, participants fall into the sufficient category so that there is a need for guidance and retraining which is based on the approval of cooperation between partner members and the garden landscape design team of the Madura Islamic University so that periodic guidance for BUMDes can still be carried out. The shortcoming that still needs to be considered for participants is a sense of design which can be overcome and minimized by broadening their horizons and actively joining the landscape design community.

Abstract

East Kaduara Village is one of the villages in Pragaan Madura District with the majority of residents working as farmers. The potential commodity in the village is the cassava plant. Farmers generally sell the cassava directly without having to go through a processing process first. Post-harvest processing technology and diversification of processed products made from cassava that have not been implemented have caused the cassava harvest to pile up and have a low selling value, so it needs to be socialized and developed together. This program aims to provide knowledge and skills in processing cassava as a business product for farmwomens in East Kaduara Village. It is also hoped that the processed products resulting from the service can become a mainstay product and characteristic of East Kaduara Village. Service activities consist of providing materials and training followed by distributing questionnaires to measure the level of achievement of the socialization and training carried out. The results showed an increase in participants' skills, insight and productivity regarding the processed and packaged of cassava chips. The results of the observations showed an increase in the participants' skills and insight regarding the processed and packaged of cassava chips. The results of the participants' assessment on the training showed an increase in skills and insight with an average percentage of 75%. Participants showed activity and creativity that fell into the excellent category and enthusiasm which demonstrat in the activeness of the participants asking questions and expressed their ideas in designing packaging label designs and managed cassava chips. Processed chip products also received a positive response from more than 70% of consumer respondents who indicated the product had a selling value.

Abstract

Lebbek Village is located in Pakong Sub-District, Pamekasan Regency, Madura, where the majority of the residents work as farmers. The village has an agricultural area of approximately 35,708 hectares. The cultivation of trees or perennial crops has become the preferred choice among the local community, as it not only creates a greener environment but also provides additional sources of income. One promising tree species for development in this area is durian. However, durian cultivation in Lebbek Village has generally been carried out without proper consideration of planting seasons, planting hole preparation, or sufficient knowledge of durian cultivation techniques. This program aimed to provide the local community with knowledge and understanding of best practices for planting and maintaining durian trees. The community engagement activities included educational sessions and hands-on training, followed by the distribution of questionnaires to assess the effectiveness of the outreach and training programs. Based on observations, the training activities were proven to deliver benefits and increase participants' knowledge. Questionnaire analysis showed a 55% improvement in participants' understanding compared to their initial knowledge before the training. Additionally, 67.5% of participants expressed agreement and satisfaction with the activities provided, with more than 15 individuals actively engaged in discussions and practical sessions on durian planting techniques. Collaboration with educational institutions and research organizations is recommended to provide advanced training and continuous innovation in durian cultivation as part of a sustainable development effort.
