Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly reshaped Islamic philanthropy practices, particularly in the realm of charity (sadaqah). This article explores online giving as a form of multidimensional altruism that encompasses spiritual, social, economic, and psychological dimensions. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through content analysis and literature review, this study examines the role of social media, Muslim influencers, and digital platforms such as Kitabisa.com in shaping the culture of charitable giving among digital Muslim communities. The findings reveal that online charity serves not only as an efficient tool for wealth distribution but also as a contemporary medium for expressing practical spirituality and fostering new forms of cross-boundary social solidarity. However, the transformation also brings ethical and spiritual challenges, particularly concerning intention and authenticity of giving in automated or publicly exposed systems. This article advocates for a reflective approach to the design of Islamic philanthropic technologies to ensure that they remain spiritually meaningful as well as functionally effective.

Abstract

The development of contemporary Islamic finance requires the innovation of instruments that are not only compliant with sharia but also inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with the principles of maqāṣid al-sharīʿa to address modern socio-economic challenges. This study aims to examine DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 131/2019 on sukuk waqf as a manifestation of progressive social fiqh within the architecture of modern Islamic finance, particularly in articulating and operationalizing maqāṣid objectives. A qualitative-descriptive method with a normative approach is employed, utilizing document analysis of the fatwa and interpreting it through the maqāṣid frameworks of Abu Zahrah and Abdul Majid al-Najjar. The findings indicate that sukuk waqf represents a hybrid financial instrument that integrates the philanthropic nature of waqf with the structured mechanisms of Islamic capital markets, while reflecting key maqāṣid dimensions such as individual development, justice, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the fatwa demonstrates the role of DSN-MUI as an institutional ijtihād authority capable of synthesizing classical jurisprudence with contemporary financial needs. These findings imply that maqāṣid al-sharīʿa serves as a critical normative framework for designing and evaluating Islamic financial instruments that are value-oriented and socially responsive, while also highlighting the potential for broader application of sukuk waqf across various socio-economic sectors.

Abstract

This community service aims to activate Omah Halal as an effort to strengthen the community-based halal ecosystem in Ngronggo Village, Kediri City. The service activities are carried out with an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach that emphasizes the mapping and optimization of local assets, including MSME actors, village institutions, human resources, and academic support. The stages of service include discovery, dream, design, and destiny which are implemented through halal socialization activities, training of Omah Halal managers and Halal Product Process Companions (PPH), as well as halal certification assistance for MSMEs both through self-declare (SEHATI) and regular schemes. The results of the service show that the activation of Omah Halal is able to function as a halal certification service center, halal incubation house, and community halal literacy center. In addition to increasing literacy and access to halal certification for MSMEs, Omah Halal also acts as a cross-sector collaboration node that encourages active community participation and the formation of a sustainable halal living culture at the village level.
