Abstract

The importance of media relations conducted by a number of PRs in Government Agencies has implications for government policies in accordance with the information needs of the community. One of them is at the Office of Communication and Information (Diskominfo) Karanganyar Regency related to the issue of government program socialization. This study aims to describe the media relations strategy used by the Karanganyar Regency Office of Communication and Information in the socialization of government programs. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study, Diskominfo Karanganyar Regency uses media relations strategies by managing relations, developing strategies, and developing networks with the media to optimize each role of each section in Diskominfo for the benefit of the socialization of government programs for the community.

Abstract

Beauty is a social construction, no exception on how beautiful concepts are raised in a beauty contest which is aired in media. Describing the image of women is inseparable from the social construction of concept of beauty. This research is to describe the perceptions of members of the Solo Hijabers community in interpreting the construction of women's images through beauty contest shows. By using a qualitative descriptive method, data collection is mainly carried out through in-depth interviews with research subjects of Solo Hijabers community. In order to obtain the data validity, this research uses source triangulation and interactive data analysis. Results of this research explained that the meaning of Solo Hijabers on women's image was stated differently. However, the beauty image of women interpreted is basically complex—both physical and personality—so that a beauty contest cannot be used as the main standard. The media can describe a number of images of women, but in its construction, media actually presents women as objects of commodities that appear to be obscured.

Abstract

Media, basically give a role in constructing second hand reality for audiences. Referring to the debates and stereotypes about ethnic and tribal issues, media became one of the contributing aspects. The emergence of stereotypes on the basis of generalization of assumption in a particular group tends to rise some mistakes, even on radically, it will lead into a conflict. Therefore, this research want to describe how the stereotypical construction of Chinese or Tionghoa ethnic in the packaging of comedy movie today, entitled Ngenest, by Ernest Prakasa. This light comedy genre film was also created and starred by Ernest Prakasa, recounted his life as an indigenous Tionghoa descendant who had to deal with social stereotypes of his Chinese. Through the analysis of critical discourse of Teun A. Van Dijk, this research give further analyzes in how the construction of reality towards Tionghoa ethnic stereotypes that raised in three basic aspects, i.e: text, cognitive, and social analysis.

Abstract

Women and beauty, are certainly two things that are difficult to separate. The expansion of a number of beauty contests seems to be an event as well as a forum for women to display their ability to achieve a "beautiful" conception according to certain criteria. For this reason, this paper attempts to analyze qualitatively how the image of women is determined in the construction of beauty that shaped socially. Through analysis of literature, this paper attempts to explain how women are represented in a number of beauty contest, both national and international, on packaging the beauty in all aspects is the highest achievement for a woman. However, the construction of women's image in the beauty context ultimately leads to the commodification of women's bodies which should become their autonomy.

Abstract

Imperfect is one of the interesting films because it tells about the reality of women in relation to the stereotype of being beautiful and perfect. The purpose of this research is to examine the description of women's beauty discourse represented through the film Imperfect, including in its substance related to career, love, and the size of beauty that is seen physically (body size and shape) in women. Through the analysis of Sara Mills, this research was analyzed qualitatively descriptively, with the main data collection through the documentation on the film Imperfect. The discussion focuses on the position of the subject-object and the position of the reader in the film, the image of women and the beauty represented in it indirectly shows the existence of hyperiality that is believed to be socially in society. The concept of beauty is described as emerging through the construction of body size, including its influence on the career journey and the romance experienced by the character. In addition, the representations that appear also lead to the struggle of Rara (the main character) who tries to meet the standards and assessments of society so that her existence can be accepted socially.

Abstract

Domestic violence is rising during the pandemic, especially concerning the impact on constructing public opinion regarding the arrangement of women's social roles in the domestic scope (domestication). This research aims to describe the construction of gender relations represented by alternative online media, Magdalane.co, and Konde.co. The research method is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques by documentation of texts in the alternative media. The data analysis technique uses Sara Mills' theory about critical discourse. This research's result provides an overview of alternative media perspectives that focus on angles on the subject of the story. Both media deliver a narrative issue with a slightly different ‘sense’ of description. First, Magdalene.co and Konde.co dare to express their disapproval of discrimination among gender. Second, alternative media can break society's stereotypes and actively voice gender equality for men and women.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the satisfaction of KPI’ students of IAIN Surakarta in selecting Department concentration through the influence of motives and satisfaction in selecting Department concentration. Using quantitative descriptive method, subjects of this research were 2014 KPI’ students. Data collection were taken by observation, questionnaire, and documentation. For variables, it leads to independent variable about the motive of the 2014 KPI’ students in choosing concentration, and dependent variable related to the level of student satisfaction. Based on result of analysis, cognitive needs are aspects of the needs variable affect the level of student satisfaction in choosing KPI’s Department concentration. Related to this, cognitive aspects are basic needs in the process of student’s knowledge and experience that affect the satisfaction level of selecting concentration, because it deals with efforts to understand the academic and potential factors of students in developing interests and talents in the field of communication.

Abstract

Background: Wadon Ora Didol is a documentary film highlighting women’s resistance to the problem of early marriage. The rise of early marriage in Indramayu is a serious problem regarding the exploitation and objectification of women. This is actually related to the traditions and culture of Indramayu, thus, it is giving rise to a feminist-based resistance movement against these traditions. Purpose: This article aims to analyze and describe the resistance carried out by women against early-age marriage in the film Wadon Ora Didol through critical discourse analysis of Sara Mills. Methods: It uses a descriptive research approach, with primary data collection through documentation on selected scenes and relevant literature studies. Data findings were analyzed using theories of resistance and feminism. Results: There is women’s resistance in the film Wadon Ora Didol, which is identified through two positions: first, as the subject of resistance displayed by demonstrators and their efforts to revise laws of marriage; second, a slight object position through scenes showing the exploitation and objectification of women. Dominantly, Wadon Ora Didol proves that women are the main actors who are constructed to be able to fight, be independent, and be free to express and convey criticism of the problem of early-age marriage. This film also presents women who are responsive to caring about the fate of other women, both domestically and publicly, so that all individuals are equal and have their rights to freedom. Implications: These findings provide social criticism of the importance of women’s rights in society, as well as their struggle for existence in feminism. It is hoped that the results can provide other aspects to increase public awareness to be more responsive to social problems and exploitation of women, especially regarding early marriage.

Abstract

Dengan perkembangan media baru yang cepat, tokoh politik menciptakan citra politik yang lebih baik. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meneliti perspektif politik Ganjar Pranowo sebagai petugas partai berdasarkan konten YouTube Podkaesang Depan Pintu (PDP) episode 23. Pengumpulan data untuk penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan observasi digital, dokumentasi, wawancara, dan studi literatur, serta teori deskriptif kualitatif dengan analisis semiotika John Fiske. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa Ganjar Pranowo menggunakan media YouTube Kaesang Pangarep untuk meningkatkan citra politiknya. Dalam tayangan tersebut, Ganjar menunjukkan dirinya sebagai tokoh dan kader partai politik PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) daripada sebagai Gubernur Jawa Tengah. Selain itu, sebagai identitas politiknya, Ganjar Pranowo menggunakan istilah yang mudah diingat oleh masyarakat. Hasilnya, Ganjar Pranowo menggambarkan dirinya sebagai kader partai PDIP melalui bahasa verbal, yaitu membangun narasi dan gaya komunikasi dalam tayangan PDP. Selain itu, dia menunjukkan ideologinya secara nonverbal melalui pakaiannya, ekspresinya, dan gestur.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the cyber branding of Rumah Budaya Kratonan (RBK) as a community center via Instagram @rumah_kultur_kratonan. The type of research is descriptive qualitative, data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of relevant sources. Data analysis was prepared interactively and source triangulation was carried out to find the validity of the data. The theory used is cyber branding in the 3 "i" concept from Deirdre Breakenridge. This article produces a picture that RBK is quite active in providing information, such as: events, national holiday commemorations, historical thematic information, and culinary entertainment in Surakarta. RBK uses comment, direct message and poll facilities on Instagram to maximize information interactivity with the public. RBK has an instinct to form special branding as a community center because of the existence of a historical gallery that supports its existence as a community institution that preserves history and culture in Surakarta. However, it is hoped that the management of existing cyber branding will be more optimal, especially in maximizing interactivity with the public, as well as packaging more interesting and varied Instagram content.
