Abstract

The issue behind the research on the Bajo tribe is the lack of understanding regarding the forms of communication used by the tribe to impart knowledge about local wisdom concerning the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources. Therefore, the aim of this research is to identify both the forms of local wisdom and the communication methods used to educate Bajo children about the sustainable use of coastal resources, ensuring the preservation of the Bajo tribe's cultural identity. The study was conducted among the Bajo tribe living along the coast of the Tiworo Strait in Muna Regency and West Muna Regency. The research informants consisted of 15 individuals, purposively selected, including elders and tribal leaders. The findings revealed that the local wisdom being passed down includes traditional management of coastal natural resources, such as: (a) the mammia kadialo tradition, involving fishing practices, which include palilibu, pongka, and sasakai; (b) traditional methods of fishing, including missi, ngarua, mana (archery using traditional tools), and nyuluh/balobe (also called ngobor); (c) the Pamali tradition, which involves specific taboos at certain times and places; and (d) the Maduai Pinah ritual, a form of worship for the "sea ruler" believed to protect and provide natural resources. Communication methods used to teach Bajo children about the utilization of natural resources include intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, and group communication.

Abstract

The growing population and increasing demand for space have made spatial planning a critical component of sustainable development. In a campus environment, efficient spatial organization supports both academic and social functions. With Lakidende University experiencing a rise in student numbers, strategic space utilization has become essential. This study analyzes the spatial development direction of Lakidende University based on building coefficient, accessibility, and building functions. A qualitative approach with a quantitative descriptive design was applied. Data were collected through field observations, documentation, and document review. Key variables included the building coverage ratio (minimum 30%), accessibility, and functional use of buildings. The analysis compared existing campus conditions with relevant spatial regulations. Tools such as ArcGIS and SketchUp supported site planning analysis. The findings indicate that Lakidende University, spanning 30,000 m², has 27,197.16 m² of non-buildable land (8.1%), while the current building coefficient reaches the minimum threshold of 30%. The available development area is 8,159.15 m². Based on the number of students, lecturers, and staff in 2023, projected spatial needs for new faculty buildings, a library, canteens, parking, and open areas amount to 5,964.5 m². This remains within the allowable development area. The results demonstrate adequate space for future expansion. This research offers fresh insight into campus spatial planning at Lakidende University, addressing previously unexamined gaps. By evaluating land use coefficients, accessibility, and spatial functions, the study presents practical strategies for efficient space management to support long-term institutional growth and sustainability.

Abstract

In Southeast Sulawesi, investment decision-making has increasingly been influenced by behavioral factors, amid dynamic trends in foreign direct investment (PMA) and domestic investment (PMDN). A nuanced understanding of how cognitive and emotional tendencies shape financial decisions is essential to designing more effective and inclusive investment strategies. This study investigates the impact of cognitive and emotional biases on financial literacy and investment behavior, while also exploring the mediating role of financial literacy. Employing an explanatory research design, the study surveyed individual investors registered with the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Southeast Sulawesi, numbering 17,354, with 391 respondents randomly selected and 276 providing valid responses (70.58%). Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS). Findings reveal that both cognitive and emotional biases substantially affect financial literacy, which in turn positively influences investment decisions. Empirical data from 2009 to 2023 show that investors with higher financial literacy are more capable of evaluating and responding to fluctuations in PMA and PMDN, thereby contributing to both foreign and domestic investment growth. These results highlight that mitigating behavioral biases and enhancing financial literacy are critical for improving investment outcomes and sustaining balanced development in regional investment activities.

Abstract

Economic mobility between urban and rural areas is essential for regional development, particularly in Southeast Sulawesi. This study investigates the relationship between business licensing in the transportation sector, good governance, and public trust in enhancing economic mobility. Specifically, it examines how the ease of business licensing influences public trust (H1) and good governance (H2), and how public trust mediates the relationship between licensing reforms and governance outcomes (H3). Adopting a quantitative approach within a positivist paradigm, data were collected through surveys targeting stakeholders involved in transportation-sector licensing. The analysis utilized Structural Equation Modeling with the Partial Least Squares method (SEM-PLS) to test causal relationships. Results indicate that streamlined business licensing significantly improves public trust, thereby strengthening good governance practices. Furthermore, public trust serves as a mediating factor, linking licensing reforms to improved governance outcomes, underscoring its importance for effective policy implementation. These findings underscore the strategic role of licensing reforms in reducing bureaucratic barriers, enhancing transparency, and fostering public confidence—key drivers for urban-rural economic integration. For policymakers, the study highlights that optimizing licensing processes, strengthening governance, and building trust can facilitate investment, improve transportation infrastructure, and accelerate regional economic connectivity. Future research should examine the broader socio-economic implications of licensing system improvements across different sectors and regions to develop more comprehensive strategies for sustainable regional development.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has created a wave of uncertainty that has led to economic failure and disruption, particularly in the micro and small business sector. This study aims to analyze the impact of the pandemic on MSMEs, using a case study in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. This study uses primary data collected from 100 MSMEs in Kendari City through structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews, using a stratified random sampling method. The variables analyzed included income, number of employees, turnover, business capital, and marketing strategies before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Data analysis was conducted using independent t-tests and fixed effects estimation to identify the impact of the pandemic on MSME performance and strategies. The analysis shows that the pandemic crisis has significantly impacted the economic system, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises, as reflected in decreased income and disrupted employment, which in turn has led to increased unemployment. This impact has also affected business turnover and prompted changes in marketing strategies. Nearly 60% of MSMEs in Kendari City have experienced economic difficulties since the pandemic emerged in Indonesia. In Southeast Sulawesi, the decline in MSME performance is predicted to be primarily due to the low utilization of technology in product marketing, which is limited by the availability of funds.
