Abstract

Abstract

This research explores the character building portrayed in The Wild Robot movie by Chris Sanders, focusing on the transformation of the main character, Roz, from an emotionless robot into a figure full of empathy, responsibility, and leadership. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of character values presented in the movie and to analyze the internal and external factors that contribute to Roz’s character development. The research applies a descriptive qualitative method, using observation and documentation as the primary data collection techniques. The analysis is supported by Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory and character education frameworks. The findings reveal that Roz demonstrates key character values such as empathy, compassion, adaptability, leadership, courage, and sacrifice. These values are shaped by both internal factors—such as cognitive ability and emotional learning—and external influences including the natural environment and social interactions. The movie is proven to be a valuable medium for character education, particularly for adolescents, as it aligns with the principles of the Pancasila Student Profile and supports educational efforts to instill moral and social values through engaging and relatable narratives. This study concludes that animated films like The Wild Robot can effectively contribute to character development in educational contexts.

Abstract

Reading and writing are two interconnected literacy skills that require a structured approach in elementary school. This study aims to describe the strategies used by teachers in guiding fourth-grade students to write reading journals through the integration of intensive reading techniques and mind mapping methods. This qualitative research uses a case study design to explore teaching practices in real classroom contexts. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Jetis, Dagangan District, Madiun Regency, involving classroom teachers and fourth-grade students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation of reading and writing activities, and analysis of student work and lesson plans. Thematic analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that teachers develop three main strategic stages: (1) guiding intensive reading with focus questions to identify key information, (2) assisting in organizing ideas through structured mind mapping, and (3) facilitating the transformation of visual maps into coherent written journal entries. These strategies demonstrate how mind mapping serves as a cognitive bridge that helps students systematically process reading content and express it in written form. This study concludes that the combination of intensive reading techniques and mind mapping methods provides an effective scaffold for developing students' reading journal writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of customary criminal law into the national legal system based on the principles of justice and the values of Pancasila. The research adopts a normative legal method by analyzing statutory regulations, legal concepts, and relevant cases. It also explores the philosophical foundations and the ratio legis of recognizing customary criminal law within the context of legal modernization, as reflected in the new Criminal Code under Law Number 1 of 2023. The findings indicate that customary criminal law holds a significant position as a reflection of social justice in local communities. However, its integration into the national legal system faces challenges, particularly in harmonizing customary law principles with modern legal norms. This study concludes that the principles of justice enshrined in Pancasila can serve as an ethical framework to align customary criminal law with national law, fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive legal system in Indonesia.
