Abstract

The implementation of the Closed Rotary Lemang Baking Machine at Rumah Lemang MSME in Pekanbaru improved burning time efficiency by 50%–62.5% per batch. However, field evaluation revealed a critical capacity gap: machine capacity (10 bamboo/batch) was significantly lower than traditional production capacity (40 bamboo/batch), resulting in lower actual throughput (6–7 bamboo/hour vs. 10–13 bamboo/hour) and reduced daily output (20–30 vs. 40 bamboo). This study analyzed this gap through throughput analysis and identified second-generation machine requirements using Voice of Customer (VoC). Methods included in-depth interviews with the MSME owner, production performance measurement, and comparative gap analysis. VoC results identified an ideal capacity of 50 bamboo/batch, with the owner already planning an independent modification as an indication of active technology adoption. This study recommends an iterative development approach with modular second-generation machine specifications grounded in real user needs.

Abstract

Indonesia has a large potential of natural clays, one of which is located in Gema Village, Lipat Kain Subdistrict, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. This study aims to examine the use of Gema clay as a molding material and gating system design for bell making through a number of defects, dimensional accuracy, and hardness values. The molds were designed with a sprue; two sprues; and a sprue and a riser. The Gema village clay was formed into two mold halves, the lower and upper molds. Then, the molds were dried and sintered at 359 °C. Al-4.5wt.%Cu was melted in a crucible furnace to 780 °C, then poured into the mold. The defects were observed, the representative of dimensions and the hardness were measured.  The results show there are two types of defects that were observed as a result of the use of clay and channel system: incomplete casting and pin holes. The a sprue and a riser design has a lowest percentage error of 0.35% and a hardness of 56.486 VHN.

Abstract

Corrosion of carbon steel in peat water environments is a critical issue due to the acidic nature and high content of organic acids in the medium. This study investigates the corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of Syzygium polyanthum (bay leaf) extract as a natural corrosion inhibitor for AISI 1037 carbon steel in peat water. The extract was prepared using a maceration method followed by solvent removal with a rotary evaporator. Steel specimens were immersed in peat water without inhibitor and with inhibitor mass concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9% (v/v) for 28 days. Corrosion rates were determined using the weight loss method, supported by visual surface analysis. The results indicate that bay leaf extract significantly reduces the corrosion rate of AISI 1037 steel. The highest inhibition efficiency of 38.83% was achieved at a concentration of 9% v/v, corresponding to a corrosion rate of 1.66 mpy. These findings demonstrate the potential of bay leaf extract as an environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in peat water environments.
