Abstract

Border areas such as the Riau Islands have unique characteristics that influence retail marketing communication strategies, mainly due to their strategic position among cross-border trade, cultural, and tourism flows. This study aims to examine how modern retail business actors in the Riau Islands apply an integrated marketing communication mix (IMC) in reaching and retaining local consumers during the 2020–2025 period. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a dual case study strategy, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation of retail promotion activities in the cities of Batam, Tanjungpinang, and Bintan. The results of the study revealed six main themes that marked the IMC implementation pattern, namely the synergy between digital and traditional channels, the dominance of direct sales promotion, the personalization of community-based communication, the importance of public relations and brand storytelling, the role of visual communication, and challenges in measuring the effectiveness of strategies. This research shows that the success of retail marketing communications in border areas is highly dependent on adaptability to multicultural local contexts as well as consistent and relevant cross-media messaging integration. The main contribution of this research lies in the enrichment of the theoretical perspective of IMC in a geographical context that has been underexplored, as well as the provision of an analytical framework that can be used by practitioners and policymakers to develop more effective and sustainable communication strategies in border areas

Abstract

In today's digital era, computational thinking skills are a crucial competency that vocational high school students must possess to face the challenges of Industry 4.0. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve students' logical, systematic, and analytical thinking skills at SMKS IT Darussalam Boarding School 01 through an introduction to algorithms and the Python programming language. The method of implementing this activity is carried out through three main stages: Socialization and introduction to basic algorithm concepts interactively, a practical Python programming workshop covering data structures, flow control, and simple functions, and mentoring in creating mini-projects based on programming logic. The results of this activity are expected to provide students with a deep understanding of how to solve complex problems through decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithm design. Through mastering the basics of Python, students are expected to not only be able to write code but also have a strong foundation in programming logic that can be implemented in various fields of information technology in the future.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of media narratives and Ombudsman statements on public understanding of the New Student Admissions System (SPMB) process in the Riau Islands Province. Amidst challenges to transparency in educational selection, the role of the media and oversight institutions such as the Ombudsman is crucial in shaping public opinion. This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach combined with online news analysis to identify how media narratives frame the issue of educational selection and how the Ombudsman's statements are received by the public. Data were obtained from journal articles, reports from related institutions, and online news covering document verification in the 2025 SPMB selection. The results show that the media plays a significant role in shaping public perception through framing that highlights administrative issues, which can undermine trust in the selection policy. Furthermore, the Ombudsman's role in increasing transparency is essential to correct procedural inconsistencies and increase public trust. Collaboration between the media, the Ombudsman, and the public has proven crucial to creating better understanding and reducing uncertainty related to the selection process. This study recommends strengthening public communication policies at the regional level, particularly in terms of transparency and public participation.
