Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that can prevent the occurrence of free radical antioxidation reactions in lipid oxidation. Red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) is one of the plants endemic to Papua which contain high antioxidant. The aim of this research was to determine the abnormality spermatozoa of ayam Kampung which were received red fruit extract treatment. Eight cokcs were divided into 4 treatments, each treatment was repeated 5 times. The treatment consisted of control (P0) without extract, P1 with 0.5 mL extract/kgBW/day, P2 with 1 mL extract/kgBW/day and P3 with 1.5 mL extract/kgBW/day. The results showed that red fruit extract decreased the percentage of abnormality spermatozoa (P<0.05) compare to control (without red fruit extract). Forms of abnormality obtained was abnormalities on the head, namely swelled head, bent head, head detachement, knotted tail and smaller head, middle abnormalities, namely midpiece detachement and bending at midpiece border and abnormalities of the tail, namely bent tail, knotted tail, tail detachement and curled tail.

Abstract

. Abstract Cattle is one of the top priority animal agriculture in Indonesia. It has played significant roles in economical aspect of Total revenues. Those are due to stakeholders’ involvement. Study was done in Manokwari from April to June 2019 by using focus group discussion towards twenty various represented individuals, groups and mass institutions. The queries discussed concerning background, resources delivery, interconnectivity amongst actors, intervention and innovation. The primarily finding is that grouped actors dominated, followed by laws actors, private types institutions, stakeholder role and having positive effect due to importance. However, threat existed directly without turn-back effect. The three top shared resources were access, satisfaction, and time spent. Actors can have long term period program with sustainability using neutral to strong power resource. Relationship of actors found in three groups, i.e. positive, negative and no relationship. Intervention was urgently needed, i.e. time spent, satisfaction, policy, knowledge and access. Priority of innovation will be skills, policy, and knowledge. Keywords: Actors; Cattle farming business; Intervention and innovation; Shared resources; Stakeholder network analysis.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the portrait of livestock production in the neighborhood environment as a basis for livestock commodity development and animal husbandry development, to determine the needs and potential of animal husbandry development in Waropen Regency. The method was done using descriptive study by using desk study and reference review. The object of observation was livestock production and forages yielded from crops. The results of the studyshowed that portrait of livestock production is not optimal yet, marked by the low number of livestock production on each district of several commodities. Animal feed needs to be intensified. Thus technical assistance needs to be provided.

Abstract

This study investigates the trends in goat population and meat production in Papua and West Papua from 2000 to 2023, analyzing the relationship between population growth, production output, and key management factors. Using secondary data from official sources such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Department of Animal Husbandry, the study employs descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, and both linear and non-linear regression models. The results indicate a significant positive correlation between goat population and meat production, particularly in Papua, where a cubic regression model explained 61.9% of the variability in production. In contrast, West Papua showed a weaker relationship with more fluctuations in production trends. The study underscores the importance of sustainable management practices, including feed quality and health care, to optimize goat production. These findings provide insights into improving goat farming in these regions through targeted interventions and policy alignment with national agricultural strategies.

Abstract

Antler shape played a more important role in group dominance than body size. Until recently there was no available information on the morphometric size of antlers from native Indonesian deer in Manokwari, West Papua, Indonesia. This study was aimed to determine whether the morphometric size of left and right hard antlers differs in Timor deer from the Bird’s Head Peninsula of Papua Island; to assess whether morphometric measurements of hard antlers can serve as indicators of the distribution area of Timor deer in the region; and to evaluate whether other morphometric variables can reliably estimate hard antler length. This study employed a descriptive method, utilizing census techniques and direct observation of the antler owners in Manokwari Regency. A purposive sampling method is used in this study. Most of the antler’s collections originally from Teluk Wondama and Tambrauw regencies (six each), Teluk Bintuni and South Manokwari regencies (three each), Fakfak and Raja Ampat regencies (one each). The results of analysis indicate that the observed variables, based on morphometry values between left and right side of antlers from different areas of origin in this study, were almost symmetric and not significantly different. Similarities among variables measured (antler of length, length of first branch, length of second branch, length of the tip of main antler, antler diameter, main antler tip range, range of the second antler tip, range of the first antler tip, angle of the first branch), cannot be used as an indicator of the distribution of this sub-species in the Bird's Head Peninsula of Papua.
