Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of four non-communicable diseases that can be caused by lifestyle factors. There are 4 family lifestyles that are a risk of causing diabetes mellitus, namely physical activity (exercise habits), diet (habits to consume sugary drinks), smoking habits, and the frequency of monitoring blood sugar levels. This study aims to describe the lifestyle of families at risk of diabetes mellitus in Blimbing Village, Rejotangan District in 2022. The research design used is descriptive quantitative. The population and sample of this study were families who lived in the same house with people has diabetes mellitus as many as 20 samples, provided that they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The variable used in this study is a single variable, namely the lifestyle of the family at risk of diabetes mellitus. Furthermore, data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, after which the data was processed by editing, coding, data entry, tabulation, and analyzed by percentage. The results of the research from 20 total respondents can be seen that most of the respondents have a bad lifestyle as many as 13 people (65%), respondents have very bad lifestyle as many as 4 people (20%), and respondents with a good lifestyle as many as 2 people (10%). The conclusion from the results of the study shows that special attention is needed to control the risk of diabetes mellitus seen from the aspect of family lifestyle, most of which have a bad lifestyle in order to start a good lifestyle.

Abstract

Background: Fracture is a disruption of the continuity of bone tissue caused by traffic accidents or deformity. Fracture surgery is an invasive procedure that is usually performed on fracture patients. Surgery will of course have unpleasant impacts on the patient, one of which is pain. Pain arising from surgery or post-surgery can be reduced using non-pharmacological techniques. Non-pharmacological techniques that can be applied include deep breathing techniques, classical music therapy, cold compress therapy, aroma therapy, and finger-hold relaxation techniques. Objective: This research aims to analyze journals related to non-pharmacological techniques in reducing post-operative fracture pain. Method: Using literature review. The research samples analyzed were 5 articles. Data collection tools use Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and PubMed. Results: The 5 articles used in this literature review show an influence or reduction in the intensity of post-fracture surgery pain after being given non-pharmacological therapy. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological techniques can be used on patients who experience post-fracture surgery pain because the results of the analysis of several articles state that there is an influence or reduction in the intensity of post-fracture surgery pain.

Abstract

Background: Emergency conditions necessitate prompt and appropriate management to mitigate the risks of disability and mortality. A fundamental component of emergency care is triage, which serves to prioritise patient treatment based on the severity of their condition and guide the necessary clinical interventions. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of peer-led health education supported by audio-visual media in improving students’ comprehension of emergency triage procedures. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was implemented. The research population comprised second-semester nursing students from STIKES Hutama Abdi Husada Tulungagung. A purposive sampling method was used to select 41 participants. The educational intervention was delivered through peer-led sessions and supplemented with audio-visual media. Data were gathered using a validated structured questionnaire and analysed employing the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a statistically significant result (p = 0.000) in both intervention groups, demonstrating that the health education provided had a meaningful impact on students’ understanding of emergency triage. Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney U test indicated a mean rank of 35.43 for participants in the peer education group and 47.57 for those in the audio-visual group, with a significance level of p = 0.019. Conclusion: The findings confirm that both peer-led and audio-visual-based health education methods are effective in increasing nursing students’ knowledge of emergency triage. Nevertheless, the audio-visual approach demonstrated superior outcomes and is, therefore, recommended as the preferred strategy for enhancing triage competency in educational settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Delays and errors in providing first aid to victims experiencing syncope can significantly increase the risk of complications and even mortality. Syncope requires immediate, appropriate intervention, making first aid skills essential for students. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the roleplay method and the audiovisual method in improving students’ skills in providing first aid for syncope. Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent group posttest-only approach. The population consisted of all 442 students in Class X at SMAN 1 Kedungwaru, Tulungagung, Indonesia. Using purposive sampling with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, 71 students were recruited. Participants were divided into two groups: the roleplay group (n = 35, Class X-1) and the audiovisual group (n = 36, Class X-2). The independent variable was the health education method, while the dependent variable was the level of syncope first aid skills. Data were collected using an observation checklist, with a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.86, confirming its validity. Data analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney U test. Results: The demographic characteristics showed comparable distributions between groups. In the roleplay group, 49% (n = 17) of students demonstrated good skills, whereas in the audiovisual group, the majority 47% (n = 17) achieved only moderate skill levels. The Mann–Whitney test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two methods. Conclusion: Roleplay is more effective than audiovisual because respondents have the opportunity to practice directly so they learn and see more clearly.
