Abstract

Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of gender awareness as a psychological regulatory mechanism underpinning shifts in the mindset of men and women. Amid shifting global social norms, gender awareness is no longer viewed merely as cognitive knowledge, but rather as an active process of self-regulation. Through a systematic literature review of 27 scientific articles from the SINTA, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, this study analyzes how a deep understanding of the social construction of gender functions as a self-control tool that enables individuals to monitor, evaluate, and adjust their behavior. Findings indicate that gender awareness triggers a shift from a fixed mindset rooted in biological essentialism toward an adaptive growth mindset. In men, this change is reflected in the redefinition of inclusive masculinity (anti-toxic masculinity), while in women, it manifests as increased self-efficacy and agency. This article concludes that strengthening gender awareness is an essential strategic psychological intervention for achieving sustainable gender equality at both the individual and structural levels.

Abstract

The fear of death is a fundamental existential issue that has been widely discussed in psychology, philosophy, and religious studies. This dissertation explores the phenomenon of death anxiety from the perspective of Buddhism, which offers a unique approach to understanding and overcoming the fear of death. Using a qualitative methodology, data was collected through in-depth interviews with 108 students from Nalanda Institute who study textual analysis of Buddhist scriptures, including the Sutta Pitaka, Abhidhamma, and Visuddhimagga. The research findings indicate that the fear of death in Buddhism is primarily rooted in attachment (tanha) and ignorance (avijja), which lead to suffering (dukkha). However, through practices such as mindfulness (sati), insight meditation (vipassana), and the cultivation of wisdom (panna), individuals can gain a deeper understanding of impermanence (anicca), thereby reducing their anxiety about death. Additionally, Buddhist concepts such as death, karma, and their implications in overcoming the fear of death play a crucial role in shaping attitudes toward mortality. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of meditation practices, the application of the Noble Eightfold Path found in the Sutta Pitaka, as well as an understanding of the nature of the mind as explained in the Abhidhamma and the path of purification (Visuddhimagga). With consistent practice, one can attain a state of inner peace in facing death.

Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the essence of Indonesian elementary school students' lived experiences of mindfulness meditation and how it shapes their perceptions of concentration and memory in the context of "Freedom to Learn." A hermeneutic-phenomenological study was conducted with five students in grades 4-5. Data were generated through in-depth conversations and participant observations during a four-week classroom mindfulness program and analyzed through phenomenological reduction and thematic synthesis. The research findings indicate that the unchanging essence, namely "a shift from an anxious mind to a calm mind that opens up space for learning," is expressed through four interrelated themes: perceived emotional calm, sustained attention, easier recall, and positive appreciation of quiet moments. The study concludes that mindfulness is not simply a technique, but a pedagogical way of life that begins with learning; integrating brief, mindful pauses can foster reflective, calm, and independent learners aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of declining participation and attendance rates of children at the Cetya Sangha Ratana Gianyar Buddhist Sunday School (SMB), where the average attendance is only 10–15 children out of 25–30 enrolled. The purpose of this study is to determine the involvement of parents as pubbacariya (first teachers) in supporting the sustainability of children's Dhamma learning through the Cetya Sangha Ratana Gianyar Buddhist Sunday School. This study uses a descriptive phenomenological qualitative approach to explore parents' subjective experiences. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 7 parents as key informants, as well as observation and documentation. The results show that parents understand the role of pubbacariya as a moral and spiritual responsibility in shaping children's character, but their implementation is still dominated by passive involvement, such as limited to dropping off and picking up children. The main inhibiting factors for active involvement are time constraints due to uncertain work hours and schedule conflicts with socio-religious obligations in the community. The discussion reveals that parental involvement is influenced by the individual's construction of meaning towards Dhamma education and the availability of social support from the family. The study's conclusions confirm that the sustainability of children's Dhamma learning is highly dependent on the synergy between the family and the SMB institution. Strengthening parents' awareness of their spiritual role is key to addressing the decline in children's participation in religious education

Abstract

This study is motivated by the rising prevalence of stress and anxiety in modern life and the need for a deeper conceptual approach drawn from Buddhist textual sources. The objective is to explain the relevance of meditation practice to stress and anxiety based on a textual study of the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (MN 10) and the Ānāpānasati Sutta (MN 118). The method employs qualitative library research using synchronic, diachronic, and hermeneutic analyses. The findings indicate that the meditative structure centered on sati, observation of vedanā, and observation of citta functions as a systematic mechanism for reducing mental reactivity underlying stress and anxiety, and corresponds to modern psychological concepts such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, and decentering. In conclusion, sutta-based meditation represents a transformative mental process with preventive and curative relevance for modern life and contributes to contemporary mental health literature.
