Abstract

This study proposed a fundamental technique for evaluating the preferences of interior space users by capturing their verbally expressed preferences and then determining word associations. To accomplish this, the Pajek visualization software for large network analysis was employed in conjunction with the USF Word Association dictionary to visualize the structures and network depths of the derived associative meanings. The generated associative words were then qualitatively categorized into taxonomic word groups to reveal 13 dimensions of perceived interior-environmental quality, as follows: House-related, Territorial, Impression, Activity, Active Element of Nature, Nature, Building Materials, Companion, Household Basics, Color, Location, Composition, and Time Period. A factor analysis was then conducted to sort the generated associative words according to Out- Degree Centrality/ODC score. These were validated into five factors that appeared to influence the comfort levels of interior space users. These five factors and 13 dimensions are useful as objective bases for determining the composition of adjectival pairs through the Semantic Differential (SD) method, which helps designers and architects evaluate interior space preferences.

Abstract

The Indonesian government is putting an effort into reducing the number of gasoline-fueled vehicles and replacing them with electric energy-based vehicles. This is stated in the General Draft of the National Energy Plan (RUEN), which is aimed at increasing the resilience of the national energy sector. Motorcycles are the largest contributor to the vehicle population in Indonesia at 82%. As the Indonesian government intends to stimulate the replacement of gasoline-fueled motorcycles by electric motorcycles, it is useful to conduct a study on the preferences related to motorcycle product designs among two-wheeled vehicle users in Indonesia. This study used the Kansei Engineering method to get a design direction as well as a factorial analysis for data result processing in order to obtain a unique design factor. The number of respondents in this study was 104 people from Jakarta and Bandung. The results of this study show that the respondents wanted an overall design that looks playful and masculine yet compact and active. In addition, the design has to have elements of a big scooter. This study was designed as an initial stage within the R & D process of electric motorcycle products and will be further developed in a follow-up study.

Abstract

Jelekong painters community transferred their knowledges to generations by hereditary who do not have formal art education background because unlike the creation process (formally) learned in university, Jelekong painting artists could have their own understanding of such concept. This research aims to determine the ideation factor in the creation process of Jelekong painting artists who do not have formal art education background to build an understanding of creation process in the context of hereditary painting knowledges. The creation process at early stage of the idea analyzed using verbal report method, though an associative concept network analysis of subject’s experience when drawing sketches, image analysis and factor analysis. From the data analysis results, 10 Jelekong painting artists examined in their minds when the drawing sketches process leads to harmony indicated by the distance close of houses, the object placement generally amount to two on the right and left, the different colors of distant and near objects, the ideal natural landscape with clouds, figurative shapes and other natural objects, sung the different lines to give texture, different professions, different activities, and balanced composition. When drawing sketches, the painters also considers the serenity that is indicated through a quiet atmosphere in the absence of damaged natural elements, such as drought but cozy atmosphere, painters’ memories of a cozy and quite natural atmosphere, pictures with a large space, as if there is only one house and extremely rare draw many living things. The ideation factor in the creation process of Jelekong painting artists tends to practice imitating or copying works that have been made before and really rare to find the element of novelty that causes harmony and serenity factors frequently found in each works.

Abstract

Abstract

Time pressure is unavoidable. This is also experienced by designers who work in the television industry who work with a faster pace. The costume stylist team as the designers whose fulfill the costume needs must also adjust to the conditions they have. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors that influence the costume stylist team in the costume arrangement process and the process they do in developing their ideas in the midst of their limitations. The data collection process in this study was carried out by concurrent experimentation with the protocol by recording and observing directly the creative process of costume styling on two teams of costume stylists, the recorded data was described and given a code classification based on the F-B-S onthology and processing through linkography. Through linkography obtained output data in the form of graphs of entropy, data distribution, and also the distribution process so that it can identify the influencing factors and the design process that is carried out. In this study it was found that (1) the expectations of the costume stylist team for what they wanted to serve and the available commodities were the most influential factors in developing ideas under time pressure during the costume arrangement process. (2) The costume arrangement process is carried out to deal with the time pressure they are doing, by adjusting the ideas developed, reprocessing the available costumes into new costumes, and reviewing ideas with similar experiences.

Abstract

AbstractThe history and development of architectural styles and furniture always advance concurrently. The changes that occurred in the architecture will be reflected in the furnishing and vice versa. The character similarities and connection between architecture and furniture are not just associated with the styles, but furniture and architecture also have concurrence in structure integration, colors, texture, fabrication process, and visual components. Moreover, the relation is also depicted in the Jengki buildings and furniture, which is one of the base styles for the aesthetic value of Indonesian post-independence design. However, even though both of them have a typically unique pattern, there is no basis regarding special characteristic that is a visual geometric element as the ground for the similarity of both design patterns. This topic is compelling to observe, especially in the visual features of Jengki architecture and furniture. This research attempted to analyze the visual elements and characteristics of Jengki's design artifacts using precedents analysis on Jengki-style buildings and furniture. The results showed that there are characteristics and general patterns of Jengki, which included specifications and visual characteristics, along with visual similarities between the two. Afterward, the data was compiled into a Jengki visual indexing database consisting of 36 images of Jengki visual geometric elements. The database can be used as a resource and guidance in interpreting and assessing the level of Jengki design style also a reference for designing Jengki-style furniture. Keywords: Architecture, Furniture, Jengki, PrecedentAbstrakSejarah dan perkembangan gaya arsitektur dan furnitur selalu berjalan beriringan.
