Abstract

An effective and efficient air system can provide optimal comfort and health for room occupants. This research uses Bry-Air Software to design an integrated air conditioning system that can improve comfort and health by considering temperature, humidity, air circulation, and air cleanliness. The design was carried out for a bedroom measuring 3 m x 3 mx 3 m using ASHRAE standards where the ideal room temperature is in the range of 23 ± 2°C, relative humidity 55 ± 5%, and ideal airflow of 108 Cubic Meters per Hour (CMH). ISO class 8 requirements with a maximum particle number of 100,000 particles/ft3 for a particle size of 0.5 µm are also used as a criteria during the design process to ensure clean air for room occupants. Simulation results from Bry-Air Software in accordance with ASHRAE and ISO standards found that the room needs to be equipped with a single Air Conditioner (AC) units with a capacity of ½ PK each, 1 Dehumidifier unit with a capacity of 51 CMH and an Air Cleaner with Pre-Filter and Medium Filter. The results of this research hopefully can contribute to developing integrated air conditioning systems for the comfort and health of building occupants in Indonesia.

Abstract

In recent years, the automotive industry has been experiencing a significant transition from internal combustion engines that use fossil fuels to electric vehicles. PT “SC” is one of the leading companies engaged in converting and developing electric vehicles in Indonesia. This research aims to conduct a strength analysis of the swing arm prototype developed by PT “SC”. Simulations were performed using SolidWorks software to determine the impact of static loading on the von Mises stress and strain experienced by the swing arm made from SS 400 material. The total load on the swing arm was 1610N based on the electric dynamo's weight and the possible passengers' weight on the electric motorbike. The stress analysis results show that the maximum and minimum Mises stresses ​​are 5.38 x 106 N/m2 and 1.99 x 10-1 N/m2, respectively. This stress produces a maximum displacement value of 4.54 x 10-3 mm. Calculation results from Solidworks found that the safety factor for the swing arm prototype was 43, meaning the design is safe to use.

Abstract

The sliding bearing is an essential component in a centrifugal pump to withstand the loads and forces during the operation of the pump. Damage to the plain bearing component can decrease pump performance and cause further damage to other components. This research aims to analyze the damage that occurs to the bearing used in a boiler feedwater pump and determine the cause of the damage. The analysis was carried out by observing the forms of damage to the Babbitt layer on the bearing, identifying potential failures using the Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method, and establishing the root cause of the failure using the fishbone diagram. The analysis results show that the leading cause of damage to the bearing for the boiler feedwater pump is the bulk loss of the babbitt layer on the bearings.

Abstract

Due to increasing fuel prices, most people in Indonesia choose to use fuel with an octane rating of 90. However, using fuel with a lower Research Octane Rating or RON can affect the performance and efficiency of vehicle engines, especially if the compatibility between fuel octane and the engine's compression ratio is neglected. One solution to this problem is adding an octane booster to RON-90 gasoline to resemble gasoline with an octane rating of 92. The purpose of this research is to conduct an experimental study to see the effect of using a commercially available octane booster on the fuel consumption of a multi-purpose vehicle with an engine capacity of 1500 cc. Fuel consumption testing was performed using a road test based on the full-to-full method. The measurement results show that using an octane booster in RON -90 gasoline can reduce vehicle fuel consumption by 6.82%. However, the decrease in fuel consumption is still less compared to vehicles using RON-92 gasoline. Economic analysis found that using an octane booster in a motorcar could be a cost-efficient alternative to a more expensive RON-92 petrol.

Abstract

The insulator system in substations is essential in maintaining safety and efficiency in electricity transmission and distribution lines. The purpose of this research is to conduct High Voltage tests to check possible malfunctions in a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) in a 150 kV substation following IEC standard 62271-203. Insulation Resistance (IR) measurement results for components in the GIS system show that the system still has high insulation resistance for the R, S, and T phases. High voltage testing results for the three-phase Gas Insulated Switchgear also did not exhibit current leakage, meaning the system still operates satisfactorily.

Abstract

The adoption of electric motorcycles in Indonesia has seen rapid growth, driven by the push toward a sustainable energy transition. However, battery safety remains a significant concern, particularly with Lithium-ion and Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery types. This study aims to analyze the failure mechanisms behind a fire incident on the passenger motor vessel (KMP) Tranship 1, which was allegedly triggered by a Lithium-ion battery from an electric motorcycle lacking an adequate protection system. The analysis employs Fishbone Diagrams and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), drawing on data from field case studies, evaluations of protection systems in locally manufactured electric motorcycles, and a review of relevant technical literature. The root cause analysis using the Fishbone Diagram identifies several contributing factors to fire risk, including improper usage and charging practices, inadequate transportation methods, extreme environmental conditions, and equipment failure. Findings from the Fault Tree Analysis highlight the critical role of safety components such as fuses, circuit breakers, and ventilation systems in preventing battery-related fires or explosions in electric vehicles. Based on these findings, the study recommends the implementation of multilayered protection systems, the use of standardized chargers, and the development of national regulations aligned with international safety standards. The incorporation of a Battery Management System (BMS) is also strongly recommended to enhance battery safety and reliability.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengembangan dan implementasi sistem ekstrusi 3D printing untuk material silicone rubber. Material silicone rubber adalah salah satu material potensial untuk aplikasi di bidang robotika lunak untuk pembuatan komponen sensor atau aktuator elastis. Namun demikian, teknik manufakturnya masih sangat terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memodifikasi dan mengintegrasi sistem 3D printer 3 axis dan sistem injeksi satu syringe pump untuk mencetak material silicone rubber. Pengujian dilakukan dengan variasi tipe dorongan injeksi dan variasi kecepatan dorong. Dari hasil pengujian, didapatkan tingkat akurasi dimensi hasil cetak objek dan tipe dorongan dorong henti secara berulang dengan kecepatan konstan pada kecepatan dorong 15 atau 0,51 mm/s dan kecepatan cetak 25 mm/s memiliki tingkat akurasi dan dimensi paling baik dengan dimensi sumbu X sebesar 115,78 mm, sumbu Y sebesar 26,02 mm, dan sumbu Z sebesar 0,99 mm serta akurasi 98,2 %.
