Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) cooperative learning model on the social studies learning outcomes of elementary school students. The study employed a narrative review method by examining various relevant previous studies. Data sources were obtained by searching for scientific articles in the Google Scholar database using the keywords NHT model, cooperative learning, learning outcomes, and social studies learning in elementary schools. Articles were selected based on specific inclusion criteria and then analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods through the stages of data reduction, categorization, and synthesis of research findings. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the NHT cooperative learning model has a positive effect on students’ social studies learning outcomes. This model enhances student engagement, learning interest, social interaction, and conceptual understanding through group discussions and individual accountability in the learning process. The effectiveness of the NHT model’s implementation is influenced by teacher readiness, student characteristics, and learning conditions. Therefore, the NHT model can serve as an effective alternative learning strategy to improve the quality of social studies instruction in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low level of reading and writing literacy among elementary school students indicates that literacy programs, including the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah/GLS), still face various challenges in their implementation. This study aims to analyze the role of GLS in improving students’ literacy skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Relevant articles were collected from online academic databases (e.g., Google Scholar) within the 2022–2026 period, focusing on studies discussing GLS implementation in elementary schools and published in accredited journals. A total of 8 selected articles were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach through thematic grouping and synthesis of findings. The results show that GLS contributes to improving reading habits, reading interest, and reading comprehension skills. Its implementation is influenced by factors such as teacher involvement, availability of literacy resources, and consistency in program execution. However, several challenges remain, including limited facilities and low reading interest among students. Therefore, strengthening GLS implementation in a more consistent and sustainable manner is necessary to support the improvement of students’ literacy skills.
