Abstract

Background: Aedes sp. is a primary vector responsible for transmitting several diseases such as dengue hemorrhagic fever, filariasis, chikungunya, leptospirosis, and bubonic plague. The expansion of its population from urban to rural areas necessitates new control measures. Patchouli leaves (Pogostemon cablin Benth) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic hydroquinone with potential mosquito-killing properties. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of boiled water extract of patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) leaves against the mortality of Aedes sp. mosquitoes. Methods: An experimental design was used with three treatment groups receiving patchouli leaf extract concentrations of 80%, 90%, and 100%, along with a negative control (aquadest) and a positive control. Each treatment involved 25 mosquitoes with three replications. Observations were made over a 24 hour period (1440 minutes). Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The average mosquito mortality was 6.6 mosquitoes (27%) at 80% concentration, 11.6 mosquitoes (48%) at 90% concentration, and 16 mosquitoes (64%) at 100% concentration. Conclusion: The boiled water extract of patchouli leaves (Pogostemon cablin Benth) demonstrated effectiveness in increasing Aedes sp. mortality, with higher concentrations showing greater mosquito-killing activity.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Diabetes Melitus (DM) Tipe 2 merupakan penyakit metabolik kronik yang berisiko komplikasi mikrovaskular termasuk nefropati diabetik. Penggunaan obat antidiabetik oral merupakan pilihan utama pasien DM Tipe 2, namun penggunaan yang tidak tepat beresiko efek samping termasuk gangguan fungsi ginjal. Pemeriksaan urinalisa merupakan skrining awal sederhana untuk mendeteksi gangguan fungsi ginjal. Namun, data profil urinalisa pada pasien DM Tipe 2 dengan terapi antidiabetik oral di RSUD Bahteramas masih terbatas. Tujuan: Mengetahui profil urinalisa pada pasien DM Tipe 2 yang menjalani terapi antidiabetik oral. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan desain deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. 40 pasien DM Tipe 2 yang menjalani terapi antidiabetik oral dan memenuhi kriteria inklusi dilakukan pemeriksaan urinalisa kualitatif dengan makroskopis urine, semi-kuantitatif menggunakan dipstick dan analisis mikroskopis sedimen urin. Hasil: Ditemukan glukosa sebanyak 52,5%, protein sebanyak 62,5%, darah sebanyak 67,5%, leukosit sebanyak 40%. Pada hasil pemeriksaan mikroskopis ditemukan leukosit sebanyak 50%, eritrosit sebanyak 100%, sel epitel sebanyak 52,5%, kristal sebanyak 12,5%, dan bakteri sebanyak 25%. Kesimpulan: Temuan ini mengindikasikan adanya gangguan fungsi ginjal pada sebagian pasien meskipun telah menjalani terapi antidiabetik oral. Pemeriksaan urinalisa secara rutin dapat digunakan sebagai skrining awal yang efektif dalam deteksi komplikasi ginjal pada DM.
