Abstract

The study was conducted on subjects of deaf children in class 1 of SLB-B Sumbersari Bandung. As a result of their deafness, deaf children are limited in language and communication and have low vocabulary knowledge. Therefore, this study aimed to discover the reflective maternal method implementation in improving deaf children's vocabulary knowledge. This method stimulates deaf children to optimize their abilities in knowing vocabularies, i.e., nouns by conducting conversations, visualizations, word deposits, and reflections. Based on the problems, it is necessary to provide special treatments to improve vocabulary knowledge, especially on object uses. The method used in this study was the Single-Subject Research (SSR) experiment by a quantitative approach by using the A-B-A design. The data collection technique used was three test types, i.e., verbal test, action test, and written test. This study was carried out on two deaf children. Study findings based on baseline 1 and baseline 2 scores show that the baseline 2 result was higher and had a score increase post-intervention. It is proven by the two subjects who managed to mention object names, showing object names, and matching object names and object uses. The reflective maternal method is a method by the active learning process that triggers children to conduct a natural conversation, as they occur between mother and child. This study can be implemented as a recommendation for associated teachers in their learning method, particularly in using the reflective maternal method to improve object or other material vocabulary knowledge on deaf children.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using Tamiya's game in improving the mathematical understanding of students with hearing impairment on time, distance and speed. The method used was Classroom Action Research using Tamiya games as learning media. The research was conducted in two cycles using the Kemmis and Taggart model which consists of 4 components, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. From the research conducted, it was found that in cycle I, there was a slight increase in learning outcomes where 25% of students passed and 75% did not graduate from the initial conditions, 100% of students passed the class with an average score of 53.75. In cycle II there was a significant change, 100% of students passed after making learning improvements from cycle I, an active learning situation emerged and an increase in learning outcomes. These results were obtained due to an increase in the involvement of teachers and students in learning. The use of Tamiya games as a concrete learning medium by involving students in direct experience could help the limitations of deaf children in receiving information and abstraction power that cause obstacles to knowledge achievement. The impact of this study shows that the use of the Tamiya game as a concrete learning medium could improve the mathematical understanding of the topic of time, distance and speed towards fifth grade students with hearing impairment.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate and analyse the results of mathematics learning about the concept of multiplication in students with hearing impairment. In this study, the team-games-tournament (TGT) method was used to teach the concept of multiplication to seven students with hearing impairment in an elementary school at the Special School in Cimahi through four stages of learning, namely: 1) pretest presentation, 2) learning presentation with the TGT method, and 3) posttest presentation. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in the ability to learn multiplication concepts using the TGT method. Therefore, the TGT method could be a suitable choice of learning method used in learning the multiplication concept for students with hearing impairment because, through the TGT method, students collaborate and teach each other in-game activities, that make the students understand the concept of multiplication easier, thus improve students' ability to learn the concept of multiplication. This research is important because it provides information about the use of new and unique media or learning methods that can be used to improve students' abilities, especially students with hearing impairments in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

Children with hearing impairments experience hearing loss from mild to profound, which is grouped into hard of hearing and deafness. The direct impact of hearing loss is the inability/difficulty to catch various sounds, including the sound of the language. Those with hearing impairments must be made aware of sound, especially children classified as hard of hearing, whose remaining hearing must be stimulated to train their sensitivity so that their hearing function can be optimized. Therefore, they are given special services in the form Development of Communication, Perception of Sound and Rhythm. The program provided must be under their learning conditions and needs; therefore, an assessment is needed. This study aimed to formulate an assessment instrument for sound and rhythm perception for children with hearing impairments at Special Education Elementary School. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. This study was designed in three stages: (1) preliminary stage with literature study  and documentation study on the curriculum for developing sound and rhythm perception communication,f (2) drafting stage of the assessment instrument for Sound and Rhythm Perception, and (3) validation stage of assessment instrument by measurement & education experts for children with hearing impairment and practitioners (teachers at Special Education School). The result was a hypothetical sound and rhythm perception assessment instrument that needed to be implemented at the next research stage. This instrument for assessing the perception of sound and rhythm covered the aspects of sound detection, sound discrimination, and sound comprehension. This study result can be used as a reference for teachers in carrying out a sound perception assessment before conducting a special program for Developing Communication for the Perception of Sound and Rhythm.

Abstract

People with disabilities also need ease of accessibility anywhere that allows them to do all the activities without any interruption of access in order to realize the similarity of opportunity in all aspects of life and livelihood that will aim to realize the independence of those who have obstacles, both physical, intellectual and other. Ease of access to public space is one of the rights to which are owned by them, therefore we need to pay attention to universal design principles so that they also get the right and the opportunity to enjoy the facilities provided by the government. In this research, using library research (library research). The study of literature is a study by using the method of data collection library, or in other words a research object of research is sourced from a variety of literature such as books, encyclopedias, journals and scientific articles. As a result, the application of universal design principles in public spaces for persons with disabilities is still lacking and needs attention. Public space should be a comfortable place for people with disabilities to do activities like the general public.
