Abstract

Literacy is one of the most important instruments in advancing a country's education, not even in Indonesia.  Research from developed countries has encouraged learners to access, understand, and use things intelligently through activities, such as reading, seeing, listening, writing, and speaking. In the Islamic education facility, even literacy is a duty for any Muslim, as the first Quran verse encourages Muslims to always be studious. It is precisely this research aimed at learning about the efforts of educators, particularly teachers of the history of Islamic culture, in improving literacy among educated people. The study used a qualitative method with a case study design approach. The data source was drawn from the three informants through deep interviews chosen using impressive sampling techniques. All the informers were teachers of the history of Islamic culture. The entire interview was analyzed thematically using nvivo software 12. Research shows the four attempts made by teachers to improve learners' literacy. The four are i) perform cooperative or group learning, ii) perform oral tests, iii) provide school reading or madding, and iv) make a ten-minute reading movement before beginning the lesson. The four attempts of teachers in this study can be set as an example for teachers in the history of Islamic culture, and schools to improve literacy cultures among learners.

Abstract

This study analyzes the conceptual and practical tensions between government formal policies and the informal character of pesantren in the transformation of Islamic education in Indonesia. Although Law No. 18 of 2019 provides formal legitimacy for pesantren, the relationship between the government and pesantren does not operate linearly. Formalization through standardized curricula, accreditation, competency certification, and administrative obligations has created new dynamics within pesantren, which were previously based on non-bureaucratic traditions such as sorogan, bandongan, and halaqah. Many pesantren respond to these policies through adaptive strategies: accepting certain aspects of formalization to gain legitimacy and funding, while maintaining informal structures as the core of their identity. This research employs a qualitative approach, including document analysis, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation in both salafiyah and khalafiyah pesantren. The findings indicate that the formalization-informalization dilemma is a dialectical process involving adaptation, resistance, and compromise. The study underscores that the sustainability of pesantren depends on their ability to develop a hybrid education model that accommodates the demands of modernity without compromising foundational traditions.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the impact of nature on Islamic education, focusing on the concept of fitrah (innate human potential) and its implications for developing a balanced education system that nurtures both cognitive and affective aspects. Method: A library research approach was used, analyzing books, scientific articles, and papers relevant to the topic. Results: The study finds that the concept of fitrah in Islamic educational philosophy emphasizes the intrinsic human potential for knowing God and doing good, which contrasts with the environmental focus of empiricism. The integration of fitrah in Islamic education promotes holistic development, covering intellectual, spiritual, and moral dimensions, advocating for an educational approach that nurtures inborn abilities while fostering morality and spirituality. Novelty: This research contributes to the understanding of how fitrah can be integrated into Islamic educational practices, offering a balanced curriculum, learning methods aligned with Islamic values, and an environment conducive to optimizing human potential. It provides a comparative analysis of fitrah and other philosophical schools, highlighting its unique role in shaping holistic education.
