Abstract

Elaeis guineensis Jack. leaves contain flavonoid compounds which act as antioxidants to protect the body from bad influences that can cause skin damage by free radicals. One of the technological developments to treat that can be assisted by cream preparations. Cream has various advantages, namely that it is easy to spread evenly, easy to clean or wash, practical and works on local tissue, not sticky, especially in o/w creams. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of palm oil leaf ethanol extract on the physical properties and antioxidant potential of oil palm leaf ethanol extract cream. Oil palm leaves were extracted using the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent to produce a thick extract. Palm oil leaf ethanol extract is made in cream dosage form with varying concentrations of palm oil leaf ethanol extract, FI (0.5%), FII (1%), and FIII (1.5%). The cream preparations were tested for physical properties including organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, stickiness and spreadability. Based on the test results, all cream formulas meet the test requirements for homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion and spreadability according to the requirements for cream preparations for use on the skin.

Abstract

Medicines are essential for maintaining and improving public health. People often store medicines at home for ongoing use, future needs, or leftover treatments. However, storage practices frequently ignore proper guidelines, risking decreased drug quality and medication errors. This activity aimed to improve community knowledge at Hamparan Warga Indah Complex on safe drug storage, including expiration and beyond-use dates. Methods included structured interviews with observation and health promotion via direct counseling supported by leaflets and educational videos. Evaluation used pretest and posttest to measure knowledge changes. Results showed significant improvement, with average scores rising from 71.42% to 98.57%. Knowledge increased across all indicators, demonstrating the activity's effectiveness in enhancing community understanding of proper household drug storage. The intervention successfully addressed storage misconceptions and reinforced safe medication management at home, contributing to better public health outcomes through improved individual practices.

Abstract

ABSTRACTLimited access to pharmaceutical facilities and qualified pharmaceutical personnel in Semangat Bakti Village, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province, may contribute to unsafe medication practices at the household level. One of the primary challenges identified is the limited community understanding of Beyond Use Date (BUD), defined as the maximum safe period for medication use after the primary packaging has been opened or the product has been compounded. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and awareness regarding safe and rational drug use through BUD education. The activity involved 29 members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group in Semangat Bakti Village as participants. The program was initiated with coordination and the fulfillment of legal requirements at the village level. The educational intervention was conducted on June 27, 2025, employing lecture-based and interactive discussion methods, supported by Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, leaflets, and sample products. Evaluation was performed using pretest and posttest assessments with a questionnaire consisting of 10 statements. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test to compare participants’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in participants’ knowledge following educational intervention (p < 0.05). In conclusion, BUD-focused education was effective in improving community understanding of safe medication use limits and may contribute to the adoption of safer and more rational medication practices in daily life. Keywords: Education; Family Welfare Empowerment; Beyond Use Date.
