Abstract

Background: Innovative learning strategies are increasingly important in entrepreneurship education for Generation Z students. However, the combined roles of experiential and technology-assisted learning, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and institutional support remain insufficiently understood. Objective: This study examines the effects of challenge-based learning on entrepreneurial self-efficacy, gammification engagement, and opportunity recognition along with the influence of digital technology and AI-assisted ideation on gamification engagement and opportunity recognition. Additionally it explores the mediating function 0f entrepreneurial self-efficacy and the moderating influence  of campus ecosystem support in the connection between  innovtive learning strategies and  entrepreneurial intention. Methods: Data from 250 students at five private universities in Central Java, Indonesia, were collected through purposive sampling and analyzed using PLS-SEM with 5,000 bootstrap subsamples. Results: Challenge-focused learning showed a positive correlation with entrepreneurial self-efficacy (β = 0.38, p < 0.001) as well as gamification engagement and opportunity identification (β = 0.41, p < 0.001). Digital technology and AI-enhanced brainstorming demonstrated the most significant direct correlation with gamification involvement and opportunity identification (β = 0.45, p < 0.001). Self-efficacy in entrepreneurship mediated the link between innovative learning approaches and entrepreneurial intention (β = 0.30, p < 0.001), whereas support from the campus ecosystem positively moderated this connection (β = 0.21, p < 0.001). The model accounted for 56% of the variation in entrepreneurial intention. Conclusion: Entrepreneurial self-efficacy acts as a crucial psychological factor connecting innovative learning techniques to entrepreneurial intention, with campus ecosystem support enhancing this relationship. Universities ought to combine experiential and AI-supported digital learning with mentoring, incubation initiatives, and partnerships with industry to enhance students' entrepreneurial confidence and encourage entrepreneurial intention.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has intensified competition among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), requiring firms to continuously innovate, respond effectively to market changes, and leverage organizational knowledge to sustain competitive advantage. Although previous studies have examined these factors independently, limited research has investigated the integrated effects of open innovation, market orientation, and knowledge management on competitive advantage through innovation capability, particularly in emerging economies. This study examines the direct and indirect relationships among these variables using survey data collected from 200 Indonesian SMEs operating in manufacturing, trade, and service sectors. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that open innovation (β = 0.284), market orientation (β = 0.317), and knowledge management (β = 0.298) positively and significantly influence innovation capability. Furthermore, innovation capability significantly enhances competitive advantage (β = 0.412) and partially mediates the effects of the three antecedent variables. The model explains 68.4% of the variance in innovation capability and 74.1% of the variance in competitive advantage. These findings highlight innovation capability as a strategic mechanism that transforms knowledge resources, external collaboration, and market intelligence into sustainable competitive advantage in an increasingly digital economy.

Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of four machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms: Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for predicting daily retail sales time series. The models were evaluated using key metrics, such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and R-squared (R²). Results show that RF and SVM outperformed both CNN and LSTM in terms of MAE (3500.28 and 3325.11, respectively) and RMSE (4660.60 and 4293.42, respectively). However, all models had negative R² values, indicating none could explain the variation in the data. LSTM, in particular, was the least efficient model, with an MAE of 54087.25, RMSE of 54257.51, and R² of -158.59. The poor performance of LSTM can be attributed to overfitting, improper model configuration, and misalignment with the nature of the data. The dataset used includes over 1,000 daily retail sales transaction records collected over one year, with key attributes like CustomerID, ProductID, Quantity, Price, TransactionDate, PaymentMethod, StoreLocation, ProductCategory, DiscountApplied, and TotalAmount. While the dataset is representative, its size and complexity may not have been sufficient for deep learning models like LSTM and CNN, which generally require larger datasets for optimal performance. This study highlights the challenges of using deep learning for retail forecasting and suggests future research should focus on refining models and incorporating external datasets to improve prediction accuracy.
