Abstract

Having children is a blessing. Because the case may be different for children born with special needs conditions. What comes is emotional feelings such as anger, sadness, disappointment, and not accepting it. In this condition, the father has a significant impact on the development of the child. However, due to the child's condition, it becomes a challenge for the father to adjust. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social support and Batak values on self-acceptance in fathers who have children with special needs (ABK). The research method used is a quantitative approach using data analysis techniques, namely multiple linear regression analysis by applying SPSS 22 with independent variables, social support and Batak values, and dependent variables, namely self-acceptance. The study sample consisted of 44 fathers who had ABK, using purposive sampling techniques.  The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the application of SPSS 22.  The results showed that social support and Batak values negatively affect the acceptance of fathers who have children with special needs, which means that the higher the social support and Batak values, the lower the acceptance of fathers. Keywords: Self-acceptance, Social Support, Batak Values, Children with Special Needs

Abstract

In the patrilineal culture of the Batak tribe, marriage is a societal expectation for adult men, and remaining unmarried can lead to significant pressure, resulting in feelings of frustration and failure. Religiosity and self-compassion are believed to positively impact the psychological well-being of unmarried early adult men within the Batak tribe. This study aims to explore the influence of religiosity and self-compassion on the psychological well-being of these men. The research involved 66 participants who were early adult, unmarried, and of Batak ethnicity. The instruments used in the study included scales for religiosity, self-compassion, and psychological well-being, with data analyzed through multiple regression analysis. The findings indicate that: 1) religiosity does not significantly influence psychological well-being, and 2) selfcompassion has a positive impact on psychological well-being. It is recommended that unmarried early adult men in the Batak tribe enhance their self-compassion by cultivating positive self-assessment and self-respect in various situations, particularly in response to the stress of being unmarried

Abstract

The Stress Management Seminar for Pastors at GBKP Klasis Kabanjahe Sukarame was organized in response to the heavy duties and responsibilities borne by pastors. As leaders, shepherds, and teachers, pastors often face complex and demanding service challenges. They must provide maximum service to the congregation, frequently encountering dilemmas between prioritizing family interests or those of the congregation. This situation potentially leads to significant physical, psychological, and emotional fatigue, ultimately resulting in stress. The seminar aimed to equip pastors with stress management knowledge and skills to better handle the pressures encountered in their daily duties. Through an interactive and practical approach, the seminar covered stress management techniques, including relaxation strategies, time management, and the development of social support systems. The results of the seminar indicated a significant benefit for the pastors in terms of reduced stress levels and improved overall well-being. It is hoped that this seminar can serve as a model for similar future activities, supporting the mental and emotional health of pastors in their service duties. Abstract

This study investigated the influence of job demands and spirituality on employee engagement, focusing on Christian lecturers in Indonesia. The research is both timely and significant, as it offers a fresh perspective on the typically negative association between job demands and employee engagement. Contrary to conventional assumptions, the findings reveal that job demands can, in fact, enhance work engagement among Christian lecturers, particularly when accompanied by a strong sense of spirituality. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 200 lecturers selected through purposive sampling. Employee engagement was measured using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, while job demands and spirituality were assessed using established and validated instruments. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results demonstrated that job demands had a positive effect on employee engagement, indicating that greater work demands were linked to higher levels of engagement. This finding offers a novel contribution, as it deviates from much of the prior literature. In alignment with the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, the study suggests that under certain conditions, job demands can be reinterpreted as challenges that stimulate motivation and foster engagement, particularly when supported by sufficient job resources. Furthermore, spirituality emerged as a significant predictor of employee engagement, underscoring the importance of meaning and purpose in strengthening lecturers’ dedication to their work. Overall, these findings affirm the JD-R model and highlight the need to balance job demands with both organizational and personal resources, including spiritual well-being. Future studies are encouraged to explore these dynamics across different religious contexts and consider other external factors influencing employee engagement.

Abstract

Indonesian researchers often use translation of a scale before conducting further studies. The process is mainly conducted by back-translation procedures. However, the procedure also has limitations to validate the result; hence, the present study aims try to do an alternative approach to translate the scale, i.e., collaborative/ iterative. By utilizing data from two studies (study 1, 99 respondents; study 2, 124 respondents) on Indonesian students studying outside Indonesia and in Indonesia, the present study uses a T-Test Independent sample to analyze it. The scale is revised of Penn Inventory of Scrupulosity (PIOS-R), which is used to recognize Obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms with a religius theme. As expected, the results show that the scale's translation is not different from the original version; specifically, the PIOS-R score between the two versions of the scale, English and Indonesia, has no statistical difference. The translation process supports the arguments that explain the collaborative/iterative approach is able to provide a good translation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of masculine ideology and self-esteem on gender role conflict among male nursing students. The research employed a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis. The instruments used included the Male Role Norms Scale (MRNS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Gender Role Conflict Scale (GRCS). The findings revealed that masculine ideology had a significant effect on gender role conflict (p 0.05) with a contribution of 30%. Meanwhile, self-esteem did not show a statistically significant effect, although it had a positive correlation direction. The study found that male nursing students possess high masculine ideology and self-esteem, yet still experience high levels of gender role conflict. These results suggest that traditional masculinity values play a dominant role in shaping gender identity pressures, particularly in professions considered feminine. The study recommends the development of gender-sensitive educational approaches to reduce psychological stress and promote greater social acceptance of non-traditional gender roles.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the Influence of Peer Social Support on Quarter-Life Crisis in Final-Year Students in Medan City. Based on the results of research conducted on 158 final-year students in Medan City, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between peer social support and quarter-life crisis. This study uses a simple linear regression analysis method to test the hypothesis and determine how much fluence the independent variable (peer social support) has on the dependent variable (quarter-life crisis). The results of the analysis show that the significance value is 0.000 (<0.05), so the alternative hypothesis (H₁ ) is accepted. This means that there is a real influence of peer social support on quarter-life crisis in final-year students. The coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.221 indicates that 22.1% of the variation in quarter-life crisis can be explained by peer social support. In other words, the higher the level of social support students receive from their peers, the lower the level of quarter-life crisis they experience. Conversely, low social support has the potential to worsen the crisis condition. The Adjusted R Square value of 0.216 strengthens the consistency of the model even with corrections to the number of variables used.
