Abstract

Abstract

Anemia is a health problem that is still an important indicator of health status in society. Anemia is a condition where hemoglobin levels are less than normal (<12.5-17.0 gr/dl). Vulnerable groups who experience anemia in society are women and teenagers. Adolescents are at risk of losing iron, because in adolescents there is a growth process that requires an increased need for iron. This community service aims to create cadres to prevent anemia among teenagers. The method of implementing this service is carried out in several stages including coordination with partners, formation of Ceria cadres, cadre development, and socialization of Ceria cadres. The results of this service were that 13 Ceria Cadres underwent anemia screening and Ceria Cadre coaching. The results of the anemia screening showed that 38.46% had anemia, the majority on the pretest questionnaire had sufficient knowledge (53.85%), the posttest had good knowledge (100%) and the evaluation of hemoglobin levels after coaching was 100% normal. The conclusion is that there is an increase in knowledge and hemoglobin levels in Ceria Cadres after coaching.

Abstract

Anemia and stunting remain a major challenge in public health issues, especially in pregnant women and toddlers. Cucurbita moscatta ‘Butternut’ (Labu susu), which is rich in essential micronutrients uch as Beta Carotene (provitamin A), folic acid, iron, and zinc, can be processed into highly potent functional foods. Aside from being an excellent source of alternative carbohydrates, it can also meet the micronutrient needs to support the prevention of Anemia and stunting. This activity was carried out at the Community-Friendly Green Open Space (RTH - Ruang Terbuka Hijau) in the Bener sub-district, Tegalrejo district, Yogyakarta City, with the aim of analyzing the taste acceptability of processed bottle gourd products among the target groups. The implementation methods included socialization, taste testing, and acceptability analysis of three processed products based on Bottle Gourd: Nutrient-Rich Baby Porridge, High-Protein Mud Cake (Kue Lumpur), and Compote for Pregnant Women (Kolak Ibu Hamil). The activity involved 50 panelists who assessed the color, aroma, taste, texture, and overall acceptance of the three processed products using a six-level hedonic scale. The results showed that all three products were well-received. For all indicators ( Color, Aroma, Taste, and Texture), all products received scores above 4.6, and the overall acceptance was above 5. The overall acceptance score for the High-Protein Mud Cake (5.22 ± 0.6), the Kolak for Pregnant Women (5.18 ± 0.7), and Nutrient-Rich Baby Porridge (5.00 ± 0.8). The conclusion of this research is that panellists “like” and “accept / receive” all three products. This activity had a positive impact on increasing public knowledge regarding the diversification of local food and served as a strategic rocessed products; step in the effort to prevent anemia and stunting at the family level through the fulfillment of essential micronutrients.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between blood bag type, blood collection duration, and processing time with the quality of Packed Red Cells (PRC) to support transfusion safety. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Blood Transfusion Unit of PMI Bantul. A total of 50 PRC units collected from male voluntary donors were analyzed. Variables included blood collection duration, processing delay, blood bag type, and processing method, while PRC quality was assessed based on hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and physical appearance. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and Mann–Whitney tests. The results showed that blood collection duration and processing delay had no significant effect on PRC hemoglobin levels. However, both factors demonstrated a significant negative correlation with PRC hematocrit, indicating that longer collection and delayed processing reduced hematocrit values. Processing method significantly affected hematocrit, with centrifugation producing higher hematocrit compared to sedimentation, while blood bag type showed no significant influence. All PRC units met quality standards with clear plasma and no clot formation. This study highlights the importance of timely blood processing and appropriate processing methods to maintain PRC quality, thereby contributing to improved transfusion safety and blood bank quality management.

Abstract

Blood transfusions become an important component in the management of patients with injuries to cases of accidents, surgical conditions, violence, pregnancy complications, anemia, hemodialysis, and other medical conditions. The blood transferred can be complete blood and blood components such as Packed Red Cells (PRC), Thrombocyte Concentrate (TC), Anti hemophilia Factor (AHF)/Cryoprecipitate, Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Buffy Coat (BC), Liquid Plasma (LP). This research aims to determine the distribution of blood component Thrombocyte Concentrate (TC) in Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Pontianak City. The design of this research is a quantitative study with a descriptive design, the approach of time used is retrospective by collecting and processing all the distribution data of blood component Thrombocyte Concentrate (TC) in Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Pontianak City in 2019. Processing and analyzing data in this study using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) application. Data analysis results of the number of Thrombocyte Concentrate requests 5,427 bags in 12 months, with an average (Mean) of 452.25 and a data spread (Std. Deviation) of 224.620 is greater than the dosage amount and the distribution of Thrombocyte Concentrate 3,444 bags in 12 months, with an average (Mean) 287 and a data spread (Std. Deviation) 79.681. The most demand and distribution is Dr. Soedarso country general hospital, while the fewest are the Nabasa maternity hospital. The distribution of Thrombocyte Concentrate blood components in Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Pontianak City still needs improvement for both inventory and distribution to be fulfilled the number of Thrombocyte Concentrate requests.
