Abstract

Background: Indonesia is a tropical country that is rich in various types of plants that have the potential to be used in the health sector. Basil leaves (Ocimum sanctum L.) is a plant that has antibacterial potential. Antibacterial compounds are compounds that can inhibit bacterial growth. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of basil leaf extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) with varying concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%, and to determine the effective concentration of basil extract which has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228. Methods: This research was conducted with laboratory experimental research method. Basil leaves ethanol extract was prepared by using maseration extraction method. The method used in the inhibitory test using diffusion of the disc with 5 samples in each treatment group. The sample consisted of treatment groups, ethanol extract of basil leaves with concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. Results: Antibacterial test results showed that basil leaf extracts with various concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228. The result of this study showed that ethanol extract of basil leaves with 20% concentration had inhibitory power of 10,23 mm, 40% of 10,32 mm, 60% by 10,58 mm, 80% by 13,37 mm, and 100% by 15,83 mm. Conclusion: Basil leaf extract concentrations 100% effective as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 at 15,83 mm.

Abstract

The objective of this study were determining the effects of natural zeolite from Wonosari on the activites of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria in Mangan (Mn) sedimentation of continous culture scale, and identifying the biofilm character of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria on consortium activites on natural zeolite using continous culture scale. The first studies was activation of zeolites, followed by testing the activity of consortium activities of Sulfate Reduction Bacteria in continuous culture scales; and biofilm characterization of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria consortium. The consortium of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria derived from goat feces. The size of zeo natural zeolites used in the consortium activity test of  Sulfate Reducing Bacteria in Mangan sedimentation was 0.8 to 1.2 cm. The results showed that the consortium of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria in the bioreactor with the addition of zeolite had an activity that was more effective than the bioreactor without the addition of zeolite, where the pH was increased to pH 6.9; Mangan sedimentation was 61,16%, and the higher MPN index. Zeolite in a bioreactor with biofilm formation in 5th days and 9th days seems that there were biofilm consortium of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria growing attached to the surface of the zeolite.

Abstract

Background: Blood supplies estimated to be around 2% of the total population1. However, only 1.88 million bags of blood can be met or 40% of the total needs, so there is a 60% lack of blood from the minimum requirement2. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that influence the intention to donate blood regularly at UTD PMI Bantul Regency Yogyakarta using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) approach. Methods: This research was conducted at UTD PMI Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta in September-December 2018. The number of respondents was 35 voluntary blood donors, with sampling techniques using accidental sampling. Results: The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control have a significant effect on the intention to donate. While the results of the regression analysis partially, based on a significant level of value, attitudes have a significant influence on one's intention in donating, while subjective norms and behavioral control do not significantly influence one's intentions in donating. Conclusion: The attitude had the most significant influence on the intention to donate regularly on UTD PMI Bantul Regency Yogyakarta using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) approach.

Abstract

Pendonor paling banyak berusia 18-30 tahun.

This study aims to determine the motivation of blood donors to voluntary donors in the Blood Donor Unit PMI Sleman in 2021. This study is a descriptive study with a sample of 100 voluntary donors. The sampling technique is quota sampling by analyzing the frequency distribution data and the percentage of each variable. The results showed that the characteristics of voluntary blood donors at the PMI Blood Donor Unit in Sleman Regency in 2021 were the majority of the late adolescent age group (17-25 years) as many as 45 people (45%), male sex 60 people (60%), education high level (academic/college) 73 people (73%), and not working (student) 36 people (36%). The most dominant motivation for blood donation for voluntary donors at the PMI Blood Donor Unit in Sleman Regency in 2021 is because they want to help 99 people (99%). The motivation of donors at UDD PMI in Sleman Regency is quite good. For this reason, it is recommended to increase socialization to the community regarding the importance of routinely donating blood.
