Abstract

Health is a fundamental right that every citizen in Indonesia has and every level of society has the same right to the health services. This study aims to determine the relationship between geographical factors (distance, travel time and type of transportation) and economic factors, namely the economic ability to reach health services on the utilization of health service facilities in the Malino Highland. This research uses quantitative methods with a cross sectional approach which was carried out in July-August 2023 with a total of 114 heads of household in Dusun Balanglohe, Desa Kanreapia Village, Kecamatan Tombolo Pao, Kabupaten Gowa called Malino Highland. Data collection was carried out through surveys and analyzed bivariately. The research results show that the majority of households have not utilized health services in the last one year. Travel time and type of transportation are related to health service utilization. Meanwhile, distance, income and type of insurance have no relationship with health service utilization. The government and related stakeholders need to develop strategies to increase the accessibility of health services in the Malino highlands area. As a next step, further research can be conducted to explore other factors that may influence health service utilization, such as cultural factors, education, and community perceptions of health services.

Abstract

Diarrhea is still a public health problem in Indonesia, because of its high morbidity and mortality. There are 100,000 Indonesian children who die from diarrhea every year and 300 out of 1000 residents suffer from diarrhea throughout the year. An effective way to prevent diarrhea is to implement Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). Therefore, it is important to provide community service to increase knowledge about hand washing behavior in school children. The aim of this service is to increase knowledge about PHBS for elementary school students by preventing diarrhea. The target is 33 students from SD Inpres Kanreapia, Balanlohe Hamlet, Kunciopao District. The service method uses a combination of providing materials with PowerPoint, educational songs, and hand washing practices. Extension evaluation uses pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure knowledge and attitudes before and after extension, which are analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the activity showed that there was a very significant difference in knowledge before and after counseling. Counseling on good hand washing practices can influence the knowledge of grade 5 and 6 elementary school students who are respondents at SD Inpres Kanreapia in efforts to prevent diarrhea with clean and healthy living behavior.

Abstract

Diarrhea remains a public health problem in Indonesia due to its high morbidity and mortality. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 100,000 Indonesian children die from diarrhea each year. Therefore, community service is very important to improve knowledge about hand washing behavior in school children. The purpose of this service is to evaluate knowledge about PHBS among elementary school students as an effort to prevent diarrhea. The targets were 33 students of Elementary Scholl (SD) of Inpres Kanreapia in Balanglohe Hamlet, Tombolopao District. This service method uses a combination of material delivery with PowerPoint, poster installation, and hand washing practice. Evaluation of counseling was carried out using post-test I and post-test II questionnaires to measure knowledge after 8 months of counseling, which was analyzed using the Friedman test. The results of statistical analysis showed a significant value of 0.050 (p>0.05), indicating that there was no statistically significant difference in knowledge regarding diarrhea prevention counseling with PHBS between the period before and after 8 months of counseling. Suggestions given during the implementation of the program have been implemented by SD Inpres Kanreapia, such as the provision of hand washing stations.

Abstract

A common issue in public health services is the limited knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres in conducting accurate anthropometric measurements, which affects the assessment of children's nutritional status. This community service program through training aims to improve the competencies of posyandu cadres in anthropometric measurements in Mawang Village, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. Anthropometric measurements are essential for assessing children's nutritional status and overall community health. The participatory training method involved cadres actively in every stage, from planning to evaluation. The training was conducted on September 14, 21, and 28, 2024, at Nurul Huda Mosque, with the participation of 35 posyandu cadres. The training materials included anthropometric measurement theory, correct techniques, and practical demonstrations. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in cadres' knowledge, with an average pre-test score of 13.37 and an average post-test score of 14.60 (p-value 0.000). This increase demonstrates the effectiveness of the training in enhancing cadres' understanding of anthropometric measurements, which is expected to contribute to improving the quality of health services at posyandu. This study emphasizes the importance of continuous training for posyandu cadres to support public health improvement efforts.

Abstract

Environmental ethics provides a moral framework for addressing sustainability challenges, emphasizing the ethical responsibility of humanity toward ecological preservation. This study explores Islamic environmental ethics, focusing on principles such as khalifah (stewardship), amanah (trust), and adl (justice), and their applications in sustainable practices, education, and policymaking. Using a systematic literature review, 72 sources were analyzed to identify key themes, including the theoretical foundations of Islamic environmental ethics, practical applications in daily practices and resource management, and implications for policy development. Findings demonstrate the transformative potential of Islamic teachings in fostering environmental stewardship, with examples such as eco-pesantren initiatives and sustainable agriculture illustrating successful integration into community practices. The study also highlights the significance of incorporating Islamic principles into education to cultivate eco-conscious behaviors and align sustainability efforts with cultural and religious values. By providing a comprehensive framework for integrating Islamic environmental ethics into global sustainability strategies, this research offers a culturally resonant approach to addressing environmental challenges. Future studies are recommended to assess the real-world applications of these principles across diverse contexts and their impact on long-term ecological sustainability.
