Abstract

Abstract

The first thousand days of life, beginning with pregnancy, are crucial for a child's development, influenced by factors like maternal nutrition, health, antenatal care (ANC), exclusive breastfeeding, birth weight, immunization, and complementary feeding. Regular ANC visits are vital for monitoring the health of both mother and fetus. This cross-sectional study examined the association between ANC history, anemia during pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding, and maternal dietary practices with child nutritional status in Ciranggem Village, Sumedang Regency (2021–2023). Data from 30 mothers of children aged 2–5 years were analyzed using Chi-square tests. Significant associations (p < 0.05) were found between all four maternal factors and child nutritional outcomes, highlighting their collective impact on growth. The study used an analytical observational design with total sampling. Results showed 73.3% of mothers received ANC, practiced exclusive breastfeeding, and maintained a healthy diet, while 26.7% had a history of anemia. Children's nutritional status was as follows: Normal (66.7%, 20 children), Stunting (20%, 6 children), Underweight (10%, 3 children), and Overweight (3.3%, 1 child). Statistical analysis yielded a p-value < 0.05, indicating a significant link between maternal factors and child nutrition.

Abstract

Background: Worms and scabies are two common health problems found in areas with inadequate sanitation, including rural areas such as Karang Tengah Village, Gunung Pancar. Adolescents are a vulnerable group to these two diseases due to suboptimal hygiene practices and limited health knowledge. Objective: This activity aims to increase adolescents' understanding of the transmission, symptoms, prevention, and initial management of worms and scabies through interactive counseling activities. Method: The activity was carried out in the form of counseling with a participatory approach in the village hall, involving 45 adolescents aged 12–18 years. The material was provided through presentations, discussions, and the distribution of educational leaflets. Evaluation was carried out with a pretest and posttest to measure changes in knowledge. Results: There was a significant increase in knowledge after the counseling, with an average pretest score of 56.2 increasing to 84.5 in the posttest. In addition, participants showed high enthusiasm and expressed a commitment to implementing clean and healthy living behaviors. Conclusion: Health counseling has been proven effective in increasing adolescents' understanding of worms and scabies. Educational interventions such as these are recommended to be implemented periodically in similar communities to prevent the occurrence of environmentally based infectious diseases.

Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a significant public health problem, especially in rural areas. One of the main risk factors for anemia is poor nutritional status. Adolescent girls with unbalanced nutritional status have a higher risk of iron deficiency, leading to anemia. This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls in seven villages in the Rancakalong Health Center working area in 2023. Aims: to determine whether there is a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls in seven villages in Rancakalong sub-district. Methods: This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects were adolescent girls aged 13–18 years who lived in seven villages in the Rancakalong Health Center working area. Nutritional status was measured based on Body Mass Index (BMI) according to age, while the Sahli method determined anemia based on hemoglobin levels. Data analysis was carried out using the chi-square test to see the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia. Results: Of the 140 adolescent girls studied, 23 (16.4%) had anemia. One person (4.3%) with anemia had poor nutritional status. The results of the analysis showed no significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia (p > 0.05) with the results of the chi-square p-value analysis of 0.443. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls in the Rancakalong Health Center working area. Sustainable nutritional intervention and health promotion are needed to improve nutritional status and reduce the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Stunting is a form of growth failure (growth faltering) due to the accumulation of nutritional deficiencies that last for a long time starting from pregnancy until the age of 24 months. Optimal nutritional intake for newborns by providing exclusive breast milk as the main food until the age of 6 months and then continuing until the age of 2 years accompanied by appropriate and high-quality complementary foods will prevent stunting in toddlers. One important effort to prevent stunting is by empowering the community, especially parents, to pay attention to the intake of breast milk and complementary foods for their babies. By providing knowledge to the public about the importance of correct breastfeeding and MPASI, it is hoped that the public can change their behavior to prioritize exclusive breastfeeding and correct MPASI. This community service method uses an educational approach through outreach with a total of 139 participants who live in five villages in Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency, West Java. Socialization involving experts gave results that there was an increase in participants' knowledge as measured using pre-test and post-test instruments. The percentage of participants who experienced an increase in knowledge from 139 participants, the results obtained were 118 participants (85%) experienced an increase in knowledge about breast milk and complementary foods, and 19 people (14%) had the same knowledge before and after socialization while 2 people (1%) gained The score decreased during the post-test due to several factors, including some participants who did not have time to complete the post-test questionnaire due to having to do other work

Abstract

A house or dwelling is one of the essential architectural elements designed to meet human needs. A house serves as a shelter, a place for protection, rest, and various activities. Houses and dwellings are designed to support their occupants by providing essential needs, security, aesthetics, a sense of pride, and even contributing to the occupants' health. Housing is an element that is often challenging to access and address in detail, including residential homes on Tidung Island. The varying sizes of houses and their increasing proximity to one another due to limited land availability have resulted in many homes losing access to natural lighting and ventilation. Previous research has indicated that the living environment significantly influences the prevalence of stunting in children. Stunting is a condition of malnutrition in children under the age of five that often affects their health and growth. The Jakarta city government of Indonesia already tries to reduce stunting rates among children by ensuring adequate nutrition. However, in some areas, progress has been slower, including on Tidung Island. According to previous studies, the factors contributing to stunting in children is not only to nutritional deficiencies, environmental conditions, housing quality, and poor sanitation also play a significant role in increasing the number of stunted children. As an initial study phase, this research aims to observe the living conditions of children experiencing stunting.

Abstract

Antenatal Care aims to prepare the mother and child as well as possible, both and psychologically, as well as to protect them throughout their pregnancies, deliveries, and the postpartum period so that the condition of the mother and child at birth is physically and mentally healthy and normal. The high maternal mortality rate, including during childbirth, is a driving force for the need to provide education or counseling regarding Antenatal Care to pregnant women. With 41 pregnant women from four villages in Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency, West Java, as participants, this community service method employs an educational approach through counseling. Experts in their respective fields serve as resource people in the counseling process. The post-test results were consistent with the counseling's findings, which demonstrated a substantial increase in participants' knowledge.
