Abstract

This article aims to examine the collaboration between family, school, and customary values in efforts to prevent school dropouts in Maluku. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method on several schools in the Maluku region. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation related to the interaction between families, schools, and indigenous communities. The results of the study show that families play a crucial role in addressing the issue of school dropouts through effective communication and motivation for children to continue their education to higher levels. On the other hand, schools contribute by building strong relationships with parents, providing counseling guidance, identifying at-risk students, and offering remedial programs and scholarships. Maluku’s customary values, such as masohi, pela, and the philosophy of Potong di Kuku, Rasa di Daging, make significant contributions in emphasizing solidarity and togetherness, which function as social mechanisms to maintain the continuity of education. These findings affirm the importance of synergy between family, school, and customary values in creating an inclusive and sustainable educational ecosystem. The novelty of this research lies in revealing how local customary values can be effectively integrated into educational policies to prevent school dropouts. The recommendation of this study is the importance of strengthening the role of families, schools, and indigenous communities in shaping educational policies based on local wisdom to support social and humanitarian development.

Abstract

This study explores intergenerational dynamics in digital literacy education within millennial families in Suli Village, Central Maluku. The research aims to understand how intergenerational interaction facilitates the transfer of digital competencies and cultural values, positioning millennial family members as digital literacy facilitators and baby boomers as sources of ethical and traditional wisdom. Employing a structured descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis to uncover the nature, challenges, and potentials of digital learning across generations. Findings indicate that millennials play a transformative role in introducing and guiding older family members—particularly baby boomers—through the digital landscape. In turn, baby boomers contribute by reinforcing values related to digital responsibility and cultural ethics. This reciprocal relationship not only strengthens family cohesion but also promotes adaptive digital behaviors across age groups. Moreover, the research underscores the pivotal role of schools in shaping critical digital literacy among youth and the potential of community-based initiatives to bridge generational gaps in digital understanding. The novelty of this study lies in its contextual focus on millennial families in a rural Indonesian setting and the integration of cultural values into digital education. By framing digital literacy as both a technical and socio-cultural competency, the study contributes to the advancement of social and human sciences. It recommends the development of intergenerational digital literacy campaigns involving families, schools, and community actors as a strategic approach to foster inclusive and sustainable digital literacy in local contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of Kai-Wait as social capital in strengthening interfaith solidarity in the Maluku indigenous community, especially in Petuanan Leisela, Buru Island. Kai-Wait, a kinship system that integrates indigenous and immigrant residents, functions as a social mechanism that fosters trust, respect, and cooperation amidst religious diversity. With a qualitative approach through ethnographic studies, this study was conducted through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with indigenous leaders and members of the Buru indigenous community. The results of the study revealed that Kai-Wait not only strengthens social networks and customary norms, but also functions as a symbol of inclusive solidarity, able to embrace differences in religious and cultural identities. This tradition instills moral values ?? such as mutual respect, cooperation, and shared responsibility, which are continuously passed down to the younger generation. In addition, Kai-Wait shows its relevance as a local wisdom strategy in facing modern challenges, such as social polarization and identity conflicts, as well as being a bridge for social reconciliation. The novelty of this study lies in the identification of Kai-Wait as a form of pluralistic and inclusive social capital, different from other traditions in Maluku, such as Pela-Gandong, which tend to be limited to communities bound by customary oaths. This finding provides a significant contribution to the study of local wisdom, interfaith social solidarity, and social reconciliation. This study recommends the preservation of Kai-Wait values through formal and non-formal education, as well as the adaptation of this tradition to promote social harmony in diverse communities.

Abstract

The family is the primary space for cultivating values of justice and gender equality. However, in Negeri Hukurila, Ambon City, family education patterns remain gender-biased. Male and female roles are often rigidly distinguished, limiting women’s voices in household decision-making and confining girls to domestik spheres while boys are encouraged toward public roles. Such conditions risk perpetuating gender inequality and hindering children’s equal development. This community service program aimed to raise public awareness of inclusive and gender-responsive family education through participatory approaches grounded in local wisdom. Methods included socialization, training, technology application, and evaluation that involving traditional leaders, saniri negeri, religious figures, youth, and women. The results demonstrate increased community understanding of gender-responsive family concepts, greater equality in family dialogue, and the revitalization of local practices such as masohi (mutual cooperation) as a symbol of just family collaboration. The novelty of this program lies in integrating local wisdom to build family education patterns that respect gender equality, positioning indigenous communities as key agents of change. The study concludes that gender-responsive family education is well accepted when delivered through culturally relevant approaches. Future recommendations include expanding cross-sector collaboration, strengthening local cadres as change agents, and encouraging community-level policies to sustain inclusive family practices
