Abstract

Mastery of English vocabulary is one of the academic goals teachers expected students achieve.  It becomes a problem if the goal is not attained.  From various previous research results, it was found out that there were predictors of this failure, and one of which was students reading habit.  This quantitative, descriptive-correlative research tried to analyze and answer the research questions whether students’ English vocabulary has a correlation with their reading habit.  The instrument was distributed to 70 sixth grade students who were the respondents of this study.  The data were analyzed using the Mean Score and Pearson Correlation.  The results obtained showed that the frequency of reading was only occasionally, with sufficient time, and moderate attitude towars reading.  In addition, it was found that the level of English vocabulary achievement was only moderate level.  Finally, this study also proved that students reading frequency, time spent, and attitude towards reading have significant relationships with the level of students’ English vocabulary achievement.  All of these relationships showed a positive direction.  Therefore, it is suggested that English teachers should encourage their students to do lot of reading activities, and to give them reading tasks that should be done in the school library.

Abstract

Di masa pandemi Covid19, sekolah diharapkan untuk mengimplementasikan pembelajaran yang dilakukan secara online atau dalam jaringan lewat pemanfaatan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi. Namun, dari beberapa penelitian sebelumnya ditemukan bahwa tidak semua peserta didik dapat merasakan manfaat dari pembelajaran melalui kelas daring ini.  Itu sebabnya penting untuk diketahui faktor apa saja dari lingkungan kelas daring yang berkaitan dengan motivasi belajar peserta didik, lebih khusus saat mengikuti pelajaran bahasa Inggris.  Penelitian ini didasarkan pada teori Community of Inquiry tentang faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi pada motivasi belajar peserta didik dalam kelas daring.  Responden penelitian ini terdiri dari 64 orang peserta didik kelas VI SD Advent Airmadidi yang tengah mengikuti pembelajaran secara daring.  Dengan menggunakan perangkat analisa statistik berupa Mean, Standar Deviasi, dan Pearson Correlation diperoleh hasil bahwa kondisi lingkungan kelas daring berhubungan secara signifikan dengan motivasi belajar mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris peserta didik, dengan nilai signifikansi p>0,05.  Itu sebabnya disarankan agar para guru untuk tetap menjaga dan mempertahankan kondisi lingkungan kelas daring yang memungkinkan peserta didik dapat merasakan adanya kehadiran guru, terjadinya proses berpikir dan interaksi sosial yang maksimal guna memotivasi mereka mempelajari Bahasa Inggris.Kata kunci—lingkungan kelas daring, motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara keaktifan belajar selama pembelajaran dan prestasi belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif yang bersifat deskriptif dan korelatif, digunakan untuk menjawab rumusan masalah tentang tingkat keaktifan belajar dan prestasi belajar siswa, serta untuk membuktikan ada atau tidaknya hubungan di antara variabel yang diteliti tersebut. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner tentang keaktifan belajar siswa yang diadaptasi dari Sardiman (2011) dan mendistribusikan kuesioner tersebut kepada 70 siswa kelas VII SMP Advent Airmadidi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) tingkat keaktifan belajar selama pembelajaran memiliki nilai rerata = 3.21, yang berarti keaktifan belajar siswa berada pada tingkat cukup, selama pembelajaran berlangsung, (2) tingkat prestasi belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan nilai rerata = 90.57, yang berarti prestasi belajar siswa sangat baik pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris, dan (3) nilai signifikansi p = .312 yang menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara keaktifan belajar selama pembelajaran dan prestasi belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This quantitative research which is descriptive and correlation in nature aims to examine the relationship of learning styles to the results of student academic achievement. The population in this study were students of SMP X Airmadidi. The sampling technique used is the convenience sampling method. The number of respondents in this study were 93 students. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire adapted from Maramis (2012) and the average student scores listed in the report cards for Semester 1. Academic Year 2020-2021. The data analysis technique used to determine the level of student learning styles and the level of student academic achievement is the Mean score and Correlation to determine the relationship between learning style and academic achievement. The results showed that the three learning styles possessed by students were in the high category and the level of student achievement in very good category. Furthermore, the results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. It is recommended that teachers should pay attention to learning styles using practice, especially using visual aids when teaching in class.

Abstract

This descriptive and correlative quantitative research was carried out to prove the relationship between parenting style and student learning achievement. In collecting the required data, researchers conducted a survey containing questionnaire adapted from the instrument constructed by Puspicahyani (2006) about parenting style. In addition, learning achievement data is taken from the results of the midterm exams. The respondents to this study consisted of 60 grade V students of Airmadidi Adventist Elementary School. The results of the study indicate that democratic parenting is the parenting style that students experience more often than authoritarian or permissive parenting. As for learning achievement, the students are able to show good learning achievement in general. In addition, the results of the study also proved that a significant relationship occurred between democratic parenting style and students’ learning achievement, however, no significant relationships found between two other parenting styles and students’ learning achievement. That is why it is recommended for parents to better apply parenting democratically in guiding their children so that maximum results in learning can be achieved.

Abstract

Power-point learning is learning that uses slides by displaying images, videos, photos, and animations in delivering material to make it more interesting to increase student learning activity. This research aims to see the level of use of PowerPoint learning media and students' active learning. The results of this research show that there is a significant relationship between the use of PowerPoint learning media and students' active learning with the mean (Sig = .000 ≥ α = 0.05). This research is quantitative descriptive correlative, mean score, and Spearman test. Then the sampling technique used the convenience sampling method. The instrument used was a questionnaire adapted from Rudi (2014) and Suardi (2019). The population of this study was 127 students from Advent Unklab Middle School class VIII who were registered in the 2021-2022 academic year. The results of this research found that the level of use of PowerPoint learning media and students' active learning were in the high category.

Abstract

Pendekatan konvensional dalam pembelajaran tidak lagi efektif untuk memenuhi kebutuhan peserta didik saat ini. Peserta didik menginginkan proses pembelajaran yang menarik, menantang, dan membangun kemandirian. Penggunaan TIK oleh guru menjadi salah satu solusi yang efektif untuk menciptakan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan harapan peserta didik. Penelitian kuantitatif ini difokuskan pada pengaruh pemanfaatan TIK oleh guru dalam pembelajaran terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik kelas V di SD Advent Airmadidi. Dari 90 responden yang dilibatkan dalam penelitian, hasil menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemanfaatan TIK oleh guru berada pada tingkat tinggi dan hasil belajar peserta didik juga menunjukkan hasil yang baik. Melalui uji regresi sederhana, peneliti menemukan adanya pengaruh yang signifikan dari pemanfaatan TIK oleh guru dalam pembelajaran terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik. Artinya, hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (H1) diterima. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan TIK oleh guru secara maksimal dapat berkontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik. Berdasarkan temuan ini, disarankan agar para guru terus memanfaatkan TIK secara maksimal dalam pembelajaran. Dengan menggunakan TIK, guru dapat menciptakan pembelajaran yang lebih menarik, interaktif, dan relevan dengan kebutuhan peserta didik. Hal ini terbukti dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik dan memberikan dampak positif dalam proses pembelajaran. Dalam kesimpulannya, penelitian ini menunjukkan pentingnya penggunaan TIK oleh guru dalam pembelajaran dan membuktikan bahwa pemanfaatan TIK berpengaruh signifikan terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between students’ habit of watching English movie and their vocabulary mastery and used quantitative research. This study's respondents are 9th-grade students at SMP Advent Unklab Airmadidi, particularly those enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2022/2023. This study is a descriptive and correlative design. The data was collected from 59 students from 9th grade of SMP Advent Unklab Airmadidi. Descriptive mean analysis and Pearson Product Coefficient Correlation were used to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that (1) the level of students’ habit of watching English movie was 4.30, indicating an often level; (2) the level of students’ vocabulary mastery was 4.29, indicating a high level; and (3) the p = 0.003 and r = 0.379, indicating that there is a significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movie and their vocabulary mastery. And from the results show that there is a significant correlation between the two variables, and it is important for teachers to know that watching English movies is a good medium for students to learn English, especially for students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Students as young people need to be taught about the importance of saving to learn how to manage personal finances well. Meanwhile, financial literacy is a person's financial understanding that can be used to make the right financial decisions, one of which is saving. For this reason, this study aims to test the effect of financial literacy on students' saving intention. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method as a research method. The data collection process uses an adapted questionnaire. Using convenience sampling techniques, the number of respondents obtained in the main study was 115 FKIP UNKLAB students who filled out the questionnaires that were distributed. The data obtained were then analyzed using mean scores and simple linear regression with the results of the study showing that (1) financial literacy is in the high category, (2) students' interest in saving is in the high category, and (3) there is a significant positive effect of financial literacy on students' interest in saving. These results indicate that the higher the level of students' financial understanding, the higher their interest in saving. There are several recommendations given to related parties in relation to this research topic.

Abstract

To improve the ability to understand English reading material of Grade VII students at SMP Advent Airmadidi, the right strategy is needed to be applied by the teacher. The strategy that can be applied is through Pre-Reading, During Reading and Post-Reading strategies. This study examines whether students' ability to understand English reading material is related to the strategies used by the teacher during classroom learning activities. The purpose of this study is to provide information about students' learning activities in the classroom, the extent of their level of understanding of the English reading material they read, and to prove the research hypothesis which states that there is no relationship between the two variables studied. Data was obtained from 64 grade VII students using the Convenience Sampling method. The results showed that the Pre-Reading strategy was the most frequently used during classroom learning activities, and the students had a good understanding of the English reading material they read. The results of this study also prove that there is a significant relationship between the two variables with a very strong correlation level.
