Abstract

Background: Pesticides can poison users if they do not follow pesticide use standards. This is because the active substances in these pesticide products can cause acute pain. Objective: The study aimed to identify the factors of safe behavior in using pesticides in farmers. Methods: This study employed a scoping review method. The literature search was carried out on the indexed databases of Google Scholar, Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, Free Medical Journals, and ProQuest in English. There were 450 research articles, and 15 met the inclusion criteria. From the 15 journals, information was collected from the publication year 2015-2021, article titles, design, population, interventions, and results. Relevant study articles related to the topics were qualitatively analyzed using NVIVO-12 Plus. Results: The analysis showed that knowledge, safe behavior of using pesticides, farmers' education, and personal protective equipment are the dominant factors influencing the safe behavior of using pesticides on farmers. Conclusion: Farmers who do not comply with safe behavior will have a higher health risk because of the toxicity of pesticides that can be directly inhaled and enter through the pores of the farmers’ skin.

Abstract

Abstract

Background:Tuberculosis (TB) patients with HIV/AIDS experience higher mortality rates, lower cure rates, and poorer treatment adherence compared to TB patients without HIV. As a result, TB can exacerbate HIV progression and lead to increased mortality. This study aims to investigate and summarize the determinants of TB incidence among people living with HIV/AIDS. Objective:This study employs a scoping review approach to explore the key factors associated with TB occurrence in HIV/AIDS patients. Methods:A literature search was conducted across indexed databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Crossref. Studies published between 2013 and 2021 were selected based on article titles, study design, population, intervention, and results. Fourteen relevant articles were included. Data were processed by identifying key sentences relevant to the coding framework, highlighting important findings, and organizing a narrative review framework. Qualitative data analysis was performed using NVIVO-12 Plus, with data presentation and report compilation. Results:The study identifies age, gender, education and knowledge level, nutritional status, use of antiretroviral therapy (ART), and cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) cell count as the dominant factors influencing TB incidence among people living with HIV/AIDS. Conclusion:HIV infection weakens the immune system by attacking lymphocytes, leaving individuals with HIV/AIDS highly susceptible to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Keywords:tuberculosis; HIV; AIDS; ART; CD4

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The effectiveness of Tuberculosis (TB) treatment outcomes for patients is currently suboptimal, posing a significant challenge to comprehensive efforts aimed at eradicating the disease. To address this problem, several studies have proposed that the implementation of health education initiatives have the potential to enhance treatment adherence and behavior of patients. Therefore, this study aims to assess the efficacy of health education programs using video and leaflet modalities.Method: This was a quasi-experimental study with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The sample population consisted of 85 TB patients at the Kenanga Health Center, Tegal Sari Mandala II, Medan Denai District, Medan City in 2022. Furthermore, the samples size was obtained using a purposive sampling method, involving 64 patients, which were evenly divided into two groups, namely intervention and control. The controls and intervention groups were educated using leaflet and video media, respectively. Pre-test and post-test were given to all the participants using the same instrument. A post-test was administered on the twenty-fifth day, where the materials were the same as those used at the pre-test stage. The data collected in this study were analyzed using the Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, and N-Gain tests. Results: There were significant differences between knowledges, attitudes, and practices of the participants before and after being given the interventions. Furthermore, knowledges, attitudes, and practices scores increased after the interventions were administered. Based on the results, health education using video (N-Gain score of 76.82) improved behavior of TB patients compared to the use of leaflet (N-Gain score of 49.74). After being educated, people with TB were expected to exhibit higher treatment adherence and adoption of healthy lifestyles.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is in a state of drug emergency, characterized by a high level of vulnerability and related crimes. Moreover, victims of drug abuse required assistance to recover from their substance abuse issues. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a family approach and spiritual experiences on the recovery process of individuals addicted to drugs in recovery centers in Medan. This research adopted a quantitative approach with cross-sectional design. A sample of 120 drug abusers was recruited using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through questionnaires consisting of 20 items on the family approach, 20 items on spiritual experiences, and 32 items on drug use issues. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to examine the data. The findings revealed a significant influence of the family approach (p=0.024) and spirituality (p=0.000) on the improvement of the recovery process of individuals addicted to drugs undergoing recovery in Medan recovery centers. Most of them (55%) are in the state of contemplation. It is expected that the government maintain synergy and support the management of drug recovery centers, as well as social workers who have concern about drug abuse, along with families and the broader community, in order to effectively address this issue.Â
