Abstract

The sharpness of ijtihad studied by Islamic scholars has succeeded in opening up space for the interpretation of zakat objects which were initially understood traditionally in a narrow scope but now there are various contextualizations of obligatory zakat objects into several new sub-categories through a broader review and are able to represent the current state of society. This article attempts to explore the essence and contextualization of zakat objects in the contemporary era as public financial assets in nation building. The research adopted a descriptive qualitative method through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Information and data collection is carried out using documentation techniques, while data analysis is carried out through three reviews, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Indonesia has a lot of contextualization of contemporary zakat objects, starting from professional or income zakat objects, corporate zakat, stock and bond zakat, investments and deposits, mutual fund zakat, including content creator zakat which has emerged along with technological developments and changes in lifestyle trends. This potential is also supported by Indonesia's population, which is predominantly Muslim, reaching 237.55 million people or 86.7% in 2023. With so many obligatory zakat objects and a high Muslim population, these two potentials, if managed and utilized properly, can provide positive impact in reducing economic disparities, realizing prosperity, and accelerate national development.

Abstract

Religious language has become part of social life. Apart from functioning as an expression of religious devotion, religious language also contains the meaning of internalizing religious virtue, which has implications for social piety. This research aims to describe the Jum’at Berkah tradition at the Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta. This socioreligious tradition has strong roots in the doctrine of philanthropy and takes advantage of the momentum of Friday as a day that is believed to contain many blessings. Methodologically, this research utilizes qualitative research procedures and data collection through observation and interviews. By utilizing an anthropolinguistic perspective, this research finds several conclusions. First, the Jum’at Berkah tradition carried out at the Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta, is a cultural phenomenon of Muslim society closely related to the muscular and implicative elements of the Islamic language. Environmental, social, and religious understanding factors contribute to implementing Jum’at Berkah through Sego Jum’at. The use of the term Jum’at Berkah in giving charities is based on people's religious understanding. It explains that Friday is sayyidul ayyam, a good day, and distinguishes it from other days. Second, Jum’at Berkah has a religious impact with a socio-economic dimension, specifically increasing people's awareness of sharing, strengthening brotherhood ties with fellow humans, and competing to do kindness.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the prospects and problems of waqf in Indonesia. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The research results show that Waqf in Indonesia has quite large potential, in 2022 there will be 440,512 points of waqf land in Indonesia with a total area of 57,263.69 hectares. If these assets are used productively, the potential is very large, around 19.4% of Indonesia's gross domestic product. Apart from that, the potential for cash waqf is estimated to reach 180 trillion rupiah per year. Apart from the great potential, there are problems with waqf in Indonesia, namely: Nadir's low understanding of waqf principles, law, management and Nadir's profession not yet being the main profession are the causes of the low quality of Nadir's waqf in Indonesia. Apart from that, Wakif's limited understanding of the concept, law and objectives of waqf is also part of the problems of waqf in Indonesia. Likewise, low public knowledge about waqf causes waqf assets in the community to not be managed well and productively. Waqf management in Indonesia tends to be traditional, the waqf certification process is complicated, coordination between institutions is weak, the use of waqf assets is not yet productive, government policies and supervision regarding the use of existing assets are not optimal, thus causing conflicts over waqf land.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of Al-Mawardi's public loan. This type of research is qualitative with an exploratory approach. Data collection uses the library method. Primary data was obtained from the book Al-Ahkam As Sulthaniyah and secondary data was obtained from several scientific journals and books related to this research. The analysis used is a qualitative analysis involving descriptive and interpretive data exploration. The results of the study show that the book Al-Ahkam As Sulthaniyah discusses state income, state expenditure, and the Baitul Mal. State revenue comes from zakat, ghanimah, and fai'. The state is only allowed to spend the treasures of the baitul mal as long as these expenditures are used for the public good. Al-Mawardi divided the two objectives of allocating Baitul Mal funds: first, for maslahah (benefit) and arfaq (provision of public facilities). Second, for the mandatory function. If the government has an obligation that is a mandatory function, while the funds in the baitul mal are empty, the government may make public loans because it is feared it will cause state chaos. And this policy was never carried out by the Prophet. If the leader dies, the next leader is responsible for repaying the loan.
