Abstract

Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) dikenal sebagai salah satu bahan olahan makanan yang diminati oleh masyarakat. Nilai ekonomis kepiting bakau mengalami peningkatan seiring bertambahnya permintaan. Di alam liar, kepiting bakau dapat dengan mudah dijumpai di ekosistem mangrove. Fungsi ekosistem mangrove bagi lingkungan pesisir adalah sebagai pengendali nutrisi di area air payau dimana habitatnya dipengaruhi oleh pasang surut air laut. Selain itu, mangrove dapat memberikan perlindungan bagi biota laut terhadap penyakit. Oleh karena itu, kecenderungan hidup kepiting bakau tidak dapat dilepaskan dari eksistensi mangrove. Di Kecamatan Tegaldlimo, Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB) Raja Vaname mulai membudidaya kepiting bakau karena potensi nilai ekonomisnya nyang cenderung meningkat. Namun perlu adanya upaya peningkatan wawasan guna menyeimbangkan peran manusia dan lingkungan melalui konsep berkelanjutan. Tujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk transfer ilmu terkait teknologi Silvofishery dalam budidaya kepiting bakau yang mengusung ramah terhadap ekologi dan mampu meningkatkan rasio hidup kepiting bakau. Diharapkan dengan adanya kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini petani tambak dapat menaikkan kepiting bakau sebagai komoditas unggulan di masa mendatang dengan prinsip budidaya yang ramah lingkungan. Selain itu petani tambak di Kecamatan tegaldlimo tidak hanya menjual kepiting bakau sebagai bahan baku, tapi juga produk olahan dan lebih lanjut dapat memasuki pasar digital sesuai tuntutan jaman.

Abstract

Industri pariwisata di Indonesia memiliki potensi yang sangat besar karena memiliki keanekaragaman hayati dan lanskap alam yang kaya. Karimunjawa, sebuah kepulauan yang terletak di Laut Jawa, merupakan salah satu tempat liburan yang paling terkenal di Indonesia. Menyadari adanya kesenjangan antara jumlah wisatawan dan kesiapan penduduk lokal, terutama dalam kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini ditujukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan generasi muda Karimunjawa. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui kolaborasi antara akademisi dan organisasi nirlaba lokal, dengan target utama siswa SMP dan SMA. Diawali dengan identifikasi masalah dan observasi lapangan, disusun sebuah buku ajar berjudul "English for Marine Tourism". Setelah dua bulan mengikuti pelatihan intensif, para peserta dievaluasi kemampuannya melalui ujian praktek dan tertulis serta kuesioner evaluasi. Inisiatif ini tidak hanya bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia di Karimunjawa, namun juga mendukung pengembangan pariwisata berkelanjutan dengan mempertimbangkan faktor ekonomi, sosial budaya, dan lingkungan.

Abstract

Terumbu karang secara global mampu menyerap karbon sebesar 70-90 Megaton, membuatnya berperan sangat krusial dalam mengendalikan iklim global. Mengingat Indonesia sebagai salah satu negara dengan populasi dan keragaman terumbu karang terbesar di dunia, maka Indonesia memiliki peran yang signifikan bagi keseimbangan iklim dunia. Namun sayangnya, terumbu karang di Indonesia banyak mengalami kerusakan, yang jika tidak segera ditangani akan berdampak pada lingkungan. Demikian, kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan merestorasi area terumbu karang di sekitar Pulau Pisang dengan teknik transplantasi. Pulau ini dipilih sebagai lokasi pengabdian, sebab termasuk area pemantauan penyimpangan suhu atmosfer-laut dan juga daerah tertinggal yang membutuhkan pemberdayaan. Implementasi kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan tahapan-tahapan sosialisasi dan diskusi, identifikasi, cek kualitas perairan, dan transplantasi. Sebagai tahapan inti, transplantasi terumbu karang dilakukan dengan cara menanamnya pada media berkonsep jaring laba-laba. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan perubahan pola pikir dan komitmen moral lingkungan masyarakat terhadap kehidupan laut dan terumbu karang.

Abstract

Pelagic fish are spesies that live in water column at depth of 100 to 200 meters from surface. They migrate as a group looking for nutrient and spawning place. Potential fisheries comodities in Indonesia including pelagic fish have high economic value. Then, stock assessment of pelagic fish measurement is important to researched. The research was conducted in May – June 2016 surrounding South China Sea waters using Madidihang 02 Research Vessel operated by Marine Fisheries Affair (MFA) Republic of Indonesia. To estimate the density of pelagic fish hydro-accoustic equipment and oceanography parameters were used and measured during the campaign. The split beam echosounder was use in aim to obtain precission position and number of fish target. The highest density of fish was found around Tambelan Island and Anambas Island. Statistically pelagic fish density has correlation with chlorophyll-a, salinity, temperature, and sea current velocity. The statistical analysis between pelagic fish density and those oceanography parameters (as statistic variables) yields positive vector correlation.

Abstract

Coastal areas have high ecosystem productivity and are characterized by abundant fish species and coral reefs. However, these ecosystems are vulnerable to environmental pressures caused by human activities and natural dynamics. Coral reefs, consisting of organisms from the class Anthozoa within the order Scleractinia, which produce calcium carbonate structures, are key indicators of coastal ecosystem health. Coral reefs share biological characteristics with soft corals, hydras, and sea anemones as part of the phylum Cnidaria. Their existence is highly sensitive to environmental changes, whether natural or anthropogenic. In Indonesia, coral reef conditions have experienced significant degradation, with 36.18% in the damaged condition, only 6.56% categorized as very good, and 22.96% as good. The remaining 34.3% fall under the poor category, particularly around Karimunjawa and Kemujan Islands. Accurate data-based monitoring and management are essential for conserving these ecosystems. One method used to map and analyze coral reef distribution is the Lyzenga algorithm, which can distinguish shallow-water characteristics from coral reef habitats using satellite imagery. In this study, the Lyzenga algorithm was applied to SPOT 6 imagery for the Karimunjawa and Kemujan regions, covering an area of 8.46 km². The results showed that live coral reefs cover approximately 46% of the area, while dead coral reefs account for 56%, indicating a level of degradation that requires further attention in conservation and ecosystem recovery strategies. This study highlights the critical state of coral reefs in Indonesia, particularly in the Karimunjawa and Kemujan regions, emphasizing the necessity for conservation efforts driven by precise monitoring techniques such as the Lyzenga algorithm.

Abstract

Coastal regions in Indonesia, such as Cempi Bay in West Nusa Tenggara, are strongly influenced by seasonal monsoon systems, which significantly affect wave dynamics and coastal processes. As the Northwest Monsoon (NWM) and Southeast Monsoon (SEM) exert non-uniform effects along Indonesia’s coastline, accurate wave modeling is essential to support coastal management, fisheries, and disaster mitigation in this area. This study applies a numerical wave model driven by monsoonal wind data, supplemented with bathymetry and open-boundary conditions, to simulate and analyze ocean wave characteristics in Cempi Bay during the NWM and SEM periods, focusing on significant wave height ( ) and dominant wave period ( ). Model performance was evaluated using Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), correlation coefficient ( ), and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). During NWM,  achieved a MAPE of 15.49%,  = 0.55, and RMSE = 0.19 m, indicating good agreement, while the initial SEM run showed a high MAPE of 42.83% for  that improved to 20.16% after scaling the  input by 79%, reducing the RMSE from 0.48 m to 0.26 m and increasing  from 0.67 to 0.68. Spatial analysis revealed distinct wave propagation patterns between the monsoons and confirmed lower wave energy in the inner part of Cempi Bay, highlighting the importance of capturing seasonal wave variability for effective coastal infrastructure planning and monsoon-adapted management strategies.

Abstract

A common problem encountered in densely populated residential areas is waste accumulation. The majority of this waste consists of organic and inorganic household refuse. While organic waste is polluting, it is biodegradable and decomposes relatively quickly. In contrast, inorganic waste—particularly plastics—requires an extensive period to decompose in the natural environment. Consequently, this community service program aims to recycle plastic waste so that it can be reused and even acquire economic value. The plastic material utilized is discarded single-use water gallon containers, which often accumulate and hold little to no resale value. The target participants of this program are the students (santri) of Pondok Pesantren Al-Ishlah in Bandarkidul Village, Kediri City. The method employed involves providing education and hands-on training in cultivating catfish (Clarias sp.) and water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) within a single reused gallon container which is known as Budikdamlon (aquaculture using gallon). The training also covers maintenance practices up to the harvest stage. As members of the younger generation, it is expected that the trained students will serve as agents of change—youth who not only possess intellectual capacity but also actively implement their knowledge in alignment with religious values.
