Abstract

Contradict to Islamic and Malay teachings, the people of Pekanbaru face a susceptibility to become a careless society. A consumerism style is adapted massively by people of Pekanbaru, making it harder for the marginal group to live by means. Not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic that caused the economy disruption that majorly affect the marginal group. This social phenomenon that is currently rising is the segregation in society, starting from the scope of work, social, and even education. By this phenomenon, the “Pekanbaru Kota Madani” slogan is not reflected in people of Pekanbaru. Social cohesion is one of the approaches in social psychology that can lead Pekanbaru people to become Madani individuals. Abstract

Humans often use profanity as verbal aggression to express displeasure towards others or a particular situation. Using animal names and gender-related terms with regional connotations is common in Indonesian society. Generation Z, who predominantly engage in social media, have learned to use words like animal names or genders as tools to express their emotions, both aggressively and non-aggressively, which impact on interpersonal communication. This research aims to understand the semantic changes of words created by Generation Z. This will be achieved by applying four principles of semantic change: amelioration, pejoration, narrowing, and broadening. This research will explore the use of expletives in the style of Generation Z in their daily lives and the purpose behind their usage. The study adopts a qualitative approach, with eight respondents meeting the criteria of being part of Generation Z, frequently using expletives, and actively participating in social media. The data obtained will be analyzed using a thematic approach.  The results of this study indicate that the expletives used by Generation Z have deviated from standard literal language. Despite undergoing semantic changes, the words coined by Generation Z still constitute a part of verbal aggression. The inability to contextualize expletives within normative, psychological, and sociological perspectives renders these words commonplace and acceptable.

Abstract

The evolution of technology led to rapid changes that affected both organizations and employees. Employability was a term to describe a continuum process of fulfilling the skills and expertise that also changed rapidly. One’s behavior in crafting a job could lead to one’s employability. Organizational climate, which in this study was the creative climate, had a moderating role in affecting the job creation toward employability. This study aimed to explain the role of job crafting in predicting employability in government institution X and creative climate as the moderator. The quantitative approach was applied to this research, by distributing Employability Scale (α = 0.937), Job Crafting Scale (α=0.922), and Creative Climate Scale (α=0.950) to 129 employees of government institution X. The study showed that job crafting significantly predicted the employability (R2 = 56.7%; p = 0.000, p < 0.05) along with creative climate lessened the prediction of job crafting to employability (p = 0.027, p < 0.05). Thus, the hypothesis in this study was accepted. Therefore, it was worth noting that job crafting had benefits for employees’ employability with a constructive, suitable organizational climate.

Abstract

In 2050, as many as 16% of the world’s population will be elderly individuals. Furthermore, around 14% of adults aged 60 years and over live with mental disorders. This number is quite large for the post-productive group, hence special attention is needed for the empowerment and welfare of the elderly. The number of elderly people in rural areas is greater than in urban areas in Riau Province, which is the basis for implementing psychoeducation and art therapy for elderly groups in the district of Bukit Batu, Bengkalis. Art therapy in the form of fitness exercises and coloring was welcomed enthusiasticly by the target group. It is hope that the following service activities can be replicated in other villages as a form of concern for the elderly group.

Abstract

One of the reasons people work is to meet their daily needs. Individuals require encouragement or motivation to continue working, regardless of the type of work they are doing. The purpose of this research was to determine work motivation among individuals from two different work backgrounds: freelance work (self-employment) and bonded work as Civil Servants (PNS). This study took a qualitative method, with ERG theory serving as a guide for interviewees. The findings of this study revealed that both types of work can help subjects fulfil the aspects of existence and growth, but there are differences in the dynamics of motivation in the relatedness aspect between self-employment subjects and PNS subjects, with PNS subjects experiencing positive and negative social interactions with coworkers and superiors that self-employment subjects do not.
