Abstract

The use of sand for metal molds is often found in various places; this research will focus on the type of sand used, namely sand from Lumajang Regency, which is known to be strong for concrete mixes or the like. So the purpose of this research is to find out how Lumajang sand molds will be used as metal casting molds. Testing will be carried out by making three variations of bentonite mixtures: 10%, 15%, and 20%. Later, after knowing the tensile and compressive strengths of each sand mold, casting will be carried out with three variations. For testing, casting objects will use the dye penetration test method. So that a description of the surface smoothness of the casting objects made from the three molds will be obtained and it will be known which variation is good to know about the sand mold and the appropriate metal casting results. From the results of the research conducted, it shows that the bentonite mixture with a percentage of 20% gets the highest compressive value with a value of 26.3 N/cm2 when compared to other bentonite mixture variations. From the tensile testing results, a high tensile strength value was obtained in the 15% bentonite mixture variation with a value of 0.7 N/cm2. While the results of the dye penetrant test were obtained, the results of the variation of the sand mold mixture with 20% bentonite into a mold produced the smoothest workpiece results with a few red spots caused during testing.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of varying concentrations of tapioca starch (Manihot esculenta) on the mechanical properties of composites reinforced with Sansevieria trifasciata (Lidah mertua) fibers. The composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up method with SHCP 2668 polyester resin, mekpo catalyst, and alkali-treated fibers (5% NaOH). The fiber weight fraction was 30%, and the catalyst weight was 10% of the total specimen mass. The tapioca starch concentrations were 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%, with a total matrix mass of 50 grams. Mechanical properties were evaluated through tensile tests (ASTM-D3039) and bending tests (ASTM-D790). The results indicated that composites with added tapioca starch exhibited improved tensile strength and a higher modulus of elasticity. However, for bending tests, the composites without added tapioca starch demonstrated better performance, showing a higher elastic modulus and better flexibility. In conclusion, adding tapioca starch enhances the tensile strength of the composites, making them stronger. Conversely, for bending applications, composites without tapioca starch are preferable due to their superior elasticity and bending strength.

Abstract

Unemployment may cause problems for those who experience it for example depression and cause other social problems including criminal acts such as thuggery. This problem can only be eliminated if the root cause of unemployment is eliminated. Eliminating unemployment must be done comprehensively although every region always has unemployment due to various factors, and it would be wiser if in overcoming the problem of unemployment and its side excesses such as thuggery, the local potential of the region and the communal approach are put forward. Handling of these social problems will be applied in Dermo Hamlet, Dau Subdistrict, where many welding workshops are located, yet there are still many people of productive age who do not have permanent jobs or are unemployed. So that the proposed Science and Technology-Based Community Service program in collaboration with Youth Organization partners in Dermo Hamlet aims to overcome these social problems through organizing design training, welding training and OHS / Occupational Health and Safety socialization. The initial capital constraints in making this business even though it is simple are related to the funding budget that is still not available to buy welding equipment and other supporting tools, besides that it is also constrained related to skills. So that in this PKM, 1 set of welding machines is provided.  And the indicator of program achievement is marked by understanding of the material by giving 10 Basic Welding certificates and 10 OHS certificates from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program.

Abstract

The spirit of improving the welfare of the elderly is the concern of Amal Usaha Aisyiyah, an autonomous organization under Muhammadiyah by establishing a Shelter for the Elderly in the Dau area, under the management of the Aisyiyah Dau Branch Leadership. One thing that is a serious problem is the need for infrastructure that supports the ease of movement of the elderly. It is common knowledge that the elderly's movements slow down and their motor skills are greatly reduced due to physical factors and age. This is what causes them to fall easily and get injured. And the majority of falls occur in the bathroom, in addition to wet conditions that can cause slipping, also because the toilet is not suitable, or is not friendly to the elderly. This community service is aimed at creating a special toilet design that provides convenience and safety when used. The method applied is by conducting anthropometric observations, interviews with elderly users and administrators and caregivers, conducting design calculations, fabrication followed by product testing and socialization to users. Finally, this community service succeeded in building an elderly-friendly hydraulic toilet with special specifications and has been given to the Shelter for the Elderly. The handover of the product was carried out simultaneously with testing and socialization. This product is expected to increase comfort for the elderly and reduce the occurrence of accidents involving falls in the bathroom.

Abstract

This study aims to implement the Restitution Triangle method as an effective strategy in reducing juvenile delinquency in the school environment, especially at SDN 4 Wonosari, Musi Rawas, South Sumatra. The Restitution Triangle method is a restorative approach that involves collaboration between the school, parents, and children as the main actors in the process of recovery and prevention of delinquency. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and questionnaires to students, teachers, and parents during the study period. In its application, this method focuses on open dialogue, moral responsibility, and a recovery process that involves all related parties to build children's awareness of the impact of their actions and repair damaged social relationships. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Restitution Triangle Method is significantly able to reduce the level of student delinquency, improve communication between schools and parents, and form more positive and responsible behavior among children. This implementation also shows an increase in students' moral awareness and empathy towards their families and the surrounding community. Based on these findings, it is suggested that this method can be routinely integrated into character education programs and child behavior management in elementary schools to create a healthy, safe, and understanding learning environment. This study contributes to the development of discipline strategies based on a restorative approach and is able to reduce child delinquency effectively.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that cause teachers to be reluctant to accept the position of principal. Methodology: The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design involving six teachers at an elementary school in Musi Rawas. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, encompassing data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources. Main Findings: The results of the study show that internal factors such as low self-confidence, time constraints, and lack of managerial experience, as well as external factors such as administrative burden, low institutional support, and an organizational culture that is not yet conducive, are the main obstacles for teachers in accepting the position of principal. Teachers also revealed that lack of role models and unclear career progression pathways became psychological barriers that affected their leadership interest. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes original insights by uncovering teacher decision-making patterns in declining principal positions within rural elementary schools. It also proposes strategic, context-specific interventions to enhance teachers’ leadership readiness and support their transition into school management roles.
