Abstract

The increase in the vaselife is one of the important factors to improve the quality of cut flowers of orchid Vanda douglas one of which is by giving a growth substance. The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of BAP and to find the concentration to reduce decrease of vase life and withered petals as well as maintaining the period of vase life. This research was conducted in the Biology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Tanjungpura University, Pontianak in May 2014. The research methods used was the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 6 BAP concentration treatments, i.e. aquades control of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm respectively. The results showed that the giving BAP of 20 ppm could slow down the decrease of vase life in cut flowers by 35,31%, the number of withered petals by 40% and retained the period of vase life of cut flowers up to 12,33 days.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai kandungan sulfur dan klorofil pada thallus lichen Parmelia dan Graphis pada pohon peneduh jalan di Kecamatan Pontianak Utara Kalimantan Barat telah dilakukan dari bulan September 2011 sampai Nopember 2011. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kandungan sulfur dan klorofil pada thallus lichen Parmelia dan Graphis yang terdapat pada pohon peneduh jalan dengan tingkat kepadatan lalu-lintas yang berbeda. Pengambilan sampel ditentukan secara stratified cluster sampling berdasarkan tingkat kepadatan lalu lintas kendaraan bermotor dan jenis lichen (Parmelia sp. dan Graphis sp.). Parmelia memiliki luas penutupan tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan padat lalu-lintas (0,47 cm2) dan Graphis memiliki luas penutupan tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (0,28 cm2). Parmelia memiliki kandungan sulfur tertinggi pada pohon peneduh di jalan padat lalu-lintas (4,70 ppm) dengan kandungan klorofil tertinggi di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (5,95 mg/g) dan Graphis memiliki kandungan sulfur tertinggi di jalan padat lalu-lintas (10,50 ppm) dengan kandungan klorofil tertinggi di jalan sepi lalu-lintas (0,71 mg/g). Kandungan sulfur pada lichen berbanding terbalik dengan kandungan klorofilnya.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the system of traditional medicine of the Kanayatn Dayak community in Ambawang Village, plant species and parts that were used as well as the form, method and use value ​of the plants. This research was carried out in May 2014 to January 2015 in Ambawang Village, Kubu Sub-District, Kubu Raya Regency The respondents were selected using the snowball method, whereas the information on the traditional medicine was obtained from interviews with the respondents. The date were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis was conducted to find out the types of plants, parts that wre used, procedure, method and forms of use. The quantitative analysis used Frequency of Citation (FIC), Plant Part Value (PPV) and Interspecific Use Value (IUV). The research findings showed that the system of the traditional medicine of the Kanayatn Dayak community categorized ilness into two types, i.e. based on the causes, illnesses caused by non-supernatural elements and by supernatural elements. The non-supernatural illnesses were treated using medicinal herbs, massage and other physical treatments, while illnesses caused by supernatural elements were treated with a healing ritual. There were 45 types of plants used in traditional medicine namely 28 types for healing non-supernatural illnesses, and 17 species for healing supernatural illnesses. The parts of the plant used were the stem, fruit, leaf, flower, root, rhizome, tuber and sap. Both fresh and dried plants were used. The methods of use were by way of grinding, boiling, rubbing, attaching, burning and pounding and making it a component of the healing ritual. The highest FIC was 100%, the PPV of the plants used in the traditional medicine of the Kanayatn Dayak community was from 0.133 to 1, and the IUV was from 0.176 to 1.

Abstract

West Kalimantan has large areas of mangroves including in Paloh District, Sambas Regency. This study analised community structure of mangrove areas in Paloh District. The research was conducted in January to February 2014. The combination of line and plot method was employed to complete the study. The research found 8 mengrove species belonging to 5 genera. Those genera are are Avicennia, Sonneratia, Rhizophora, Bruguiera and Excoecaria. Rhizophora mucronata (L.) has the highest Important Value Index with values ranging from 53.29 to ​​101.93. Diversity Index (H') of mangrove vegetation in the Sebubus Village was 1.721 and was classified as moderate. This indicates that mangrove ecosystem in the Sebubus Village was stabile community.

Abstract

The orchid species richness in anecosystem needs to be revealed in order to support the efforts of the biodiversity conservation. This research aims to determine the types of orchids found in the Natural Forest area in the Village of Beginjan, Sub-district of Tayan Hilir, Sanggau Regency. The research was conducted from April 2014 to July 2014 at the Natural Forest of the Village of Beginjan, Sub-district of Tayan Hilir, Sanggau Regency. The samples were taken through the cruise method by exploring the Forest and collecting each sample found. The research found ten different types of natural orchids consisting of seven species of epiphytic orchids, two types of terrestrial orchids and one type of lithophytic orchid. The orchid genus commonly found in this forest is the Bulbophyllum.

Abstract

The area of the mangrove forest located in Sebubus Village is not supported by the data and information that provide a description of the forest structure. This research was carried out to find out the vertical and horizontal profile diagram of mangrove vegetation in Sebubus Village, Paloh Sub-district, Sambas Regency, and to find out the influence of the character of environmental factors (salinity, pH, substrate and substrate texture) and mangrove forest zonation patterns. This research was conducted for five months from January to May 2015 in Sebubus Village, Paloh Sub-district, Sambas Regency. The data was collected by making transects at three points. The transects were 30x10 meters in size. Each transect had a sub-plot with the size of 10x10 meters. The observations and measurements were conducted on the identification of tree species, tree height, stem diameter, canopy width, and distance between each tree. The soil samples were taken in each sub-plot to conduct the analysis of the pH value, salinity and substrate structure. The research revealed that the mangrove species found in the site were Brugueira cylindrica (L.) Bl., Brugueira gymnorhiza (L.) Lam., Rhizopora mucronata Lam. and Sonneratia alba Sm.. The zonation patterns formed from the coast to inland were Sonneratia alba Sm., Rhizopora mucronata Lam., Brugueira cylindrica (L.) Bl., and Brugueira gymnorhiza (L.) Lam.. The trees found can be categorized into 3 strata, i.e. 4-9 m, 10-15 m and 16-21 m.

Abstract

Several Arecaceae plant are widely used by the local resident in Batu Buil village, especially coconuts, sugar palms, areca nuts, nipah, oil palms and sago. The aims of this study were todetermine the species of each Arecaceae plant, their useful parts and how were they used by Dayak Randu’ tribe in Batu Buil village. This study was conducted from December 2013 until February 2014. Data were gathered by interviewing the respondents using the snowball method. Arecaceae were used by Dayak Randu’ tribe in different ways, such as plaited, shredded, dried and boiled. Leaves, stems, fruits and flowers were frequently used, while roots and seeds were rarely used. Result showed that there were 7 species of Arecaceae which commonly used as food source, traditional medicine, building materials, handicrafts, and others.

Abstract

Fluktuasi salinitas akibat fenomena pasang surut air laut menyebabkan perbedaan jenis zooplankton yang mendiami muara sungai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas zooplankton pada saat pasang surut air laut di Muara Sungai Mempawah. Sampel diambil pada 5 stasiun yang dibedakan berdasarkan rona lingkungannya. Sampel plankton dan air diambil pada setiap stasiun baik di kolom air (kedalaman 0,5-2,5 meter) maupun di permukaan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada periode pasang surut purnama dan perbani pada bulan April 2012. Zooplankton yang ditemukan di Muara Sungai Mempawah pada saat pasang dan saat surut sebanyak 55 genera yang terbagi ke dalam 5 filum, yaitu Arthropoda, Protozoa, Trocohelmintes, Molusca, Annelida dan 4 genera yang tidak teridentifikasi. Keanekaragaman tertinggi dari filum Arthropoda (29 genera), dengan kelimpahan tertinggi berasal dari filum Trocohelmintes genus Tintinnopsis (731,23 ind/l). Keanekaragaman zooplankton di Muara Sungai Mempawah saat pasang surut tergolong sedang. Kemerataan zooplankton di Muara Sungai Mempawah cenderung merata dengan indeks kemerataan 0,6291-0,8447, yang berarti bahwa tidak ada zooplankton yang mendominasi.

Abstract

Research on the effect of media composition for the growth of stem cuttings Nepenthes (Nepenthes gracilis Korth.) has been done in Nepenthes captivity Pontianak, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Scienses and in Chemistry and Soil Fertility Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tanjungpura in November 2013 until January 2014. This research to determine the effect of planting media composition on the growth of stem cuttings Nepenthes gracilis. This research uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications, as treatments in this experiment is the planting media composition Moss (M0), Moss + Compost (M1), Moss + Coconut Fiber Powder (M2), Moss + Charcoal hust (M3), Moss + Compost + Coconut Fiber Powder (M4), Moss + Compost + Charcoal Husk (M5) and Lumut + Coconut Fiber Powder + Charcoal Husk (M6). Parameters measured were plant height, root length, number of leaves, shoot number, number of bags and wet weight. The results showed that the composition of the planting medium significantly different to the length and number of pockets. The best planting medium composition on the growth of root length Nepenthes gracilis is Lumut + Coconut Fiber Powder + charcoal husk and the best media composition to the amount of bags of Nepenthes gracilis is Lumut + Coconut Fiber Powder. Abstract

The courtyard is a land plot of land located immediately around the house and clear boders, planted with one or various types of plants and still has the ownership and functional relationship with the residents concerned. This research aims to know the kinds of plants and lawns as well as the diversity of the plant communitystructure on the grounds of the house with a different area in the village of Antibar. This research was conducted in May 2014 until August 2014. Sampling location research done by the method of stratified random sampling. The results showed that there are 79 species that belongs to the plant species in six plants plant taxonomy namely Magnoliopsida, Liliopsida, Pinopsida, Gnetopsida, Cycadopsida and Lycopodiopsida. The density of the plants have the highest value in the narrow yard type and the value of the highest frequency on the spacious grounds of the type. The grounds of the plant community structure belongs to have diversity (H ꞌ ) type is high. Composition of plant type between the grounds are spacious and have a high similarity level compared to the other pair of spacious lawns. The form depends on the utilization of wide lawns residents. The grounds are spacious, and the villagers Antibar tend to make use of the grounds to ornamental plants.
