Abstract

This research aims to identify prioritized strategies within the scope of zakat development in Indonesia. The research method employed is the Analytic Network Process (ANP), utilizing primary data sourced from in-depth interviews with the respondents who are experts, practitioners, and regulators possessing a comprehensive understanding of the pertinent subject matter. The research findings reveal that the foremost priorities across the respective facets investigated in the context of zakat development in Indonesia are the amil competence aspect, followed by the regulatory aspect, sharia compliance aspect, collection aspect, utilization aspect, and institutional framework aspect. Subsequently, within each aspect, the sub-criteria priorities are determined to be the amil competence standard, regulatory refinement, fiqh zakat standard, IT-based collection, ashaf-based map for mustahik, and performance management. The implications of this research proffer recommendations for pertinent stakeholders to further cultivate zakat in Indonesia through the identified priority facets. Furthermore, for future research endeavors, scholars are encouraged to delve deeper into the exploration of prioritized aspects and employ alternative methods or analytical tools that remain pertinent.

Abstract

Cibunian Village, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency, has great potential as an ecotourism destination. One of the unique tourist destinations currently being developed is the Bogor Waqf Forest. However, this village is highly prone to landslides, requiring collaboration from various parties to address the issue. One of the potential collaborations is with the youth, through the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna). This community service program aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) administrators regarding zakat waqf literacy, waqf-based forests, Waqf Forest applications, and carbon accounting. The entire series of activities was held in September 2024, in the form of four training sessions. The first two sessions are lectures by resource persons on zakat waqf literacy and waqf-based forests, and the final two sessions are practical carbon accounting for trees in the Bogor Waqf Forest and the use of the Waqf Forest application. The data collection method was through questionnaires before and after training, analyzed descriptively, as well as an assessment of direct practical activities during the training session. Based on observations, it can be concluded that the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) has improved their understanding of the basic concepts of zakat and waqf, as well as their ability to conduct surveys, operate the Waqf Forest application, perform carbon calculations, and manage waqf-based forests. This can enhance the sense of ownership and role of local communities in protecting the environment, preventing disasters, and optimizing village potential through waqf-based forests.

Abstract

Waqf-based forests represent a sustainable forest management initiative that is expanding in Indonesia, integrating Islamic principles of waqf with forest management practices. Preliminary research indicated that communities surrounding Bogor Waqf Forest, one example of waqf-based forest implementation, have low income levels and expressed expectations for additional income-generating activities. This training aimed to prepare local communities around Bogor Waqf Forest to enhance sustainable ecotourism services, including hospitality and coffee service. This service-oriented capacity building was designed as a productive waqf strategy to strengthen community roles in developing sustainable ecotourism. The study applied a community-based training approach with post-test evaluation. The training comprised two sessions, namely (1) a hospitality and service excellence session and (2) a coffee training session. Based on post-test results, participants demonstrated improved knowledge and practical skills in hospitality, including receiving and serving guests, as well as in coffee preparation, including brewing and preparing several variations of coffee beverages for visitors. Overall, the training supports the productivity of waqf-based forests by equipping communities with competencies needed for community-based sustainable ecotourism.
