Abstract

Poverty is a set of problems encountered by developing countries, including Indonesia. This study attempts to solve the problems using zakat instrument. Indonesia has high zakat revenue potency, but its realization is still low, therefore factors affecting society motivation in paying zakat through Amil Zakat Agency still need to be investigated. The purpose of this study is to identify if religious, psychological, social factors and government regulation enable to influence society motivation in paying zakat both simultaneously or partially. Multiple linier regression was used as the method of analysis. The results shows that religiosity, psychological, social factors and government regulation have positive and significant impact on society motivation in paying zakat through Amil Zakat Agency. Partially, religious factor and psychological factor influences society motivation in paying zakat while social factor and government regulation does not influence it. Copyright (c) 2017 by KARSA. Abstract

The aim of this paper is to test the ability of artificial neural network (ANN) as an alternative method in time series forecasting and compared to autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) in studying saving deposit in Malaysian Islamic banks. Artificial neural network is getting popular as an alternative method in time series forecasting for its capability to capture volatility pattern of non-linear time series data. In addition, the use of an established tool of analysis such as ARIMA is of importance here for comparative purposes. These two methods are applied to monthly data of the Malaysian Islamic banking deposits from January 1994 to November 2005. The result provides evidence that ANN using “early stopping” approach can be used as an alternative forecasting engine with univariate time series model. It can predict non-linear time series using the pattern of the data directly without any statistical analysis.

Abstract

Abstract: Analysis of optimal portfolio allows investors to analyze appropriate to minimize the risks accepted by the objective of maximizing profit with the same risk among existing stocks. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is used to determine the stocks with the efficient performance based on ratio analysis. Having selected some stocks efficient formation of optimal portfolio is then performed with a single index models and determined how much the proportion of funds invested in each stock. The sample data used are stocks in ISSI 2012-2017. Based on the analysis of efficiency as a candidate portfolio models used DEA - CCR and DEA - BCC generate 16 efficient stocks that forming the candidate portfolio. After the analysis of all 18 stocks that efficiently obtained 6 stocks forming the optimal portfolio Keywords: Optimal Portfolio,Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Efficiency Stocks, Relative Efficiency Score , Single Index Model.

Abstract

This paper assesses the impact of changing competition landscape and Islamic bank penetration on bank risk, profitability and capitalization. This study utilizes an unbalanced panel dataset consisting of 37 commercial banks over the period 1997 to 2015. The paper uses a panel VAR methodology to discern the interactions between bank competition and Islamic banking presence on one hand and bank performance on the other hand. We find evidence supportive of both competition – stability and competition – fragility views for conventional banks. The results suggest that bank competition improves conventional bank risk and, at the same time, lower profitability and capital holdings. As for Islamic banks, competition seems to robustly influence only bank profitability. Finally, we note that increasing Islamic bank penetration improves the risk profile of conventional banks and, as expected, reduces their market power. These results bear important implications on the design of competition policies in a dual banking system as well as on the development of the Islamic banking sector.JEL Classification: C23, G21, G28How to Cite:Sukmana, R., & Ibrahim, M. Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the causes of the liquidity risk  in Islamic and conventional banks in Indonesia using panel data regression method. The study found the significant and positive relation of ROA and NPF with the liquidity risk, whereas the negative and significant relation of CAR with the liquidity risk in Indonesian Conventional Banks. Meanwhile in Islamic banks, CAR result significantly positive effect on liquidity risk, while ROA shows negative and significant result. Possible explanation for this is that, given the huge profit by the conventional banks, it has more chance to allocate it as liquidity reserve as well as increasing the facilities (improvement on technology). When the NPL is high, conventional banks will increase the liquid assets as a buffer. Unlike that of conventional banks, the Islamic banks in Indonesia might allocate capital as liquidity reserves and might allocate ROA in fixed assets or financing or technology. The result confirm that the role of capital and bank’s performance in indeed important to the banking liquidityDOI: 10.15408/aiq.v8i2.2871
