Abstract

Human development and zakat funds are one of the efforts to minimize poverty. Human development can be measured using the Islamic Human Development Index (IHDI) indicator for countries or regions with a majority Muslim population. However, there is not much literature on IHDI and its application in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of zakat and IHDI on poverty in 35 districts/cities of Central Java in 2017–2020. The method used is panel data regression with random effect model estimation. The regression results show that zakat has a negative and significant effect on the poverty level in Central Java in 2017–2020, while IHDI has a negative but not significant effect. Simultaneously, zakat and IHDI have an influence on the poverty rate in Central Java in 2017–2020. One of the policy implications that can be done by the Central Java government to minimize the level of poverty is to increase the realization of the collection and distribution of zakat funds and cooperation from all related parties is also very necessary, including the government, zakat management institutions, banks, and the community.

Abstract

The development of waqf practices implemented so far has become very diverse. However, many people still think that the practice of waqf is limited to the management of 3M (tombs, mosques, and madrasas). Mekarjaya Village has great waqf potential, but its utilization has not been optimally realized because of the limited knowledge of its community. The Kampung Wakaf educational program was organized with the participation of 60 participants, who were the guardians of students from Madrasah At-Tarbiyah, one of the village's waqf assets, aimed at broadening the community's understanding and awareness of the concept and innovative utilization of waqf. The educational activity was conducted in one day, consisting of a material presentation session by the speakers and a discussion and Q&A session before the event was concluded. The result obtained was an increase in the community's knowledge regarding the basic concepts of waqf and its utilization, which was assessed through pre-tests and post-tests conducted at the beginning and end of the activity. Education is expected to support the development of village waqf utilization in a more comprehensive and innovative manner.

Abstract

Co-movement of integrated stock market is causing economic shocks and global crises. A typical example of this crisis was the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, which impacted the stock market. Therefore, this research aimed to examine the development, integration, and response of the five Islamic stock market in Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries during the Russia-Ukraine war. Vector Autoregressive/Vector Error Correction Model (VAR/VECM) was used to analyze DJIMMT25, SPSADS, SPSUUAEDS, JII, DJIMT, SPBMIR, and SPBMIU indices. The results showed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia stock market had the same movement, while Turkey experienced a positive trend during the war. The Islamic stock market was also cointegrated but Malaysia influenced the other four OIC countries. Meanwhile, IRF reported a permanent effect on the volatility of the market due to the shocks experienced. The volatility response was relatively small since the stock market dominated the contribution of shocks.
