Abstract

Various studies and research have been conducted to find alternatives to liquid insulation. One that is considered the most potential is vegetable oil since it has various advantages, including non-toxic, biodegradable, renewable waste products due to reactions in the form of CO2 and water, high flash points, and better thermal characteristics. In this study, Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) was used as the raw material for insulation oil with the addition of an additive in the form of nano-silica, which improves the quality of the insulation oil. As for determining the feasibility of insulation oil, characteristic tests were carried out in the form of density, viscosity, moisture content, acid number, pour point, flash point, and breakdown voltage. Based on the results of the tests, it was obtained that the lowest density in pure oil was 0.8757 g / cm³, the lowest viscosity in oil with the addition of 0.13 wt% nano-silica was 4.0248 cSt, and the lowest acid number in pure oil was 0.5797 mgKOH / g. It was also discovered that the pour point value is the same for each sample, the moisture content is 0.05%, the flashpoint is > 104 °C, and the breakdown voltage is ≥ 60 kV for each sample. The data show that the insulation oil made from POME has the potential to be used as an alternative to insulation oil.

Abstract

This research examines the influence of government size, leverage, audit findings, audit follow-up recommendations, wealth, and capital expenditure on local government performance. This research using quantitative method with data from 154 local governments, with panel data regression to identify significant relationships. Researchers present a new analysis of the relationship between wealth, audit recommendations, and leverage on local government performance in Sumatra, Indonesia. The findings show that leverage has a significant negative impact on government performance, while variables such as government size, audit findings, follow-up recommendations, wealth, and capital expenditure do not show significant effect. This suggests that local governments with higher levels of debt experience difficulties in maintaining effective performance due to financial constraints and debt repayment burdens. Additionally, larger government size is not necessarily associated with better performance, perhaps due to the challenges associated with managing a larger bureaucracy. This study provides new insights into public sector financial management and contributes to the existing literature on local government performance, with potential implications for policy reform and management strategies.

Abstract

The Pelangwot-Sedayu Lawas floodway is the main infrastructure for a flood control system in the Lower Bengawan Solo. However, frequent flooding still occurs in the Turi and Kali Tengah subdistricts of Lamongan Regency. Therefore, the number of emergency gates in the floodway has been increased. An important aspect of this flood control is ensuring that, despite the increase in capacity of the Pelangwot-Sedayu Lawas floodway gates, the water surface elevation at Pelangwot does not lead to overflow and that the floodway channel from Pelangwot to Sedayu Lawas effectively conveys the maximum discharge. This study aims to assess the capacity of the emergency gates to convey a flood discharge of 1000 m³/s and the capability of the floodway channel to accommodate flows from both the emergency gates and outlet of Jabung Retarding Basin, which amounts to 1140 m³/s. The analysis of floodway capacity involves calculating the discharge through five floodway gates and simulating the floodway channel to manage flood discharge using the HEC-RAS 5.0.7 software. Results indicate that with a gate opening of 5 m, the five gates can discharge 1000 m³/s at a water surface elevation of +7.03 masl, reducing floods by 32.09%. To improve capacity, the embankment must be elevated by 1.0 meters, with a crest width of 4.00 meters along the left bank for 4.4 km and the right bank for 4.35 km. These modifications are essential to enhance flood management and protect downstream areas.

Abstract

In construction sector, peat is one type of soil that is avoided because it has poor characteristics. This is because peat has very different characteristics when compared to other types of soil. Poor peat characteristics often lead to damage and construction failure of infrastructure buildings on peat. For example, large settlement values are caused by high peat compression that strongly influenced by its permeability value. The smaller the permeability value, the smaller the compression that occurs. Indonesia has the largest peatland distribution in Southeast Asia, this is a problem that must be resolved immediately. Much research has been done to improve the characteristics of peat, one of which is peat stabilization. Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) method using Bacillus subtilis was considered as an effective method in peat stabilization. This stabilization can reduce the permeability value of the peat by closing the pores in the peat. To investigate the influence of the bacteria on the peat sample, several tests was conducted including the physical property and permeability test. In this study, the addition of Bacillus subtilis bacteria solution can reduce the permeability value of peat from 0.001170 cm/sec to 0.000317 cm/s at the addition of 5% bacteria solution.

Soy milk is an alternative drink to replace cow's milk, and it is popular because it is highly nutritious. The availability of market opportunities for this substitute product is the basis for designing a business development strategy for Saridele Segan MSMEs through a SWOT analysis approach and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) matrix. This study aims to formulate strategies and evaluate product positions in a business portfolio based on relative market share and market growth rate. SWOT analysis is used to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by this MSME. At the same time, the BCG matrix helps determine the optimal strategy for products in the Stars, Cash Cows, Question Marks, and Dogs categories. The study results indicate that Saridele Segan MSMEs are in quadrant 1 of the SWOT matrix and quadrant II of the Question Mark BCG group. The selected strategy refers to the SO strategy. Namely, an aggressive strategy to expand the market by maximizing the potential of superior products through the exploitation of Cash Cows to support investment in Question Marks and increase competitiveness through product innovation and operational efficiency. The integrated SWOT and BCG approach provides a practical strategic framework for the sustainability of Saridele MSMEs in a more competitive market.
