Abstract

Abstract

Menopause is the permanent cessation of the menstrual cycle due to decreased ovarian function, resulting in a decrease in follicles. A person is said to be experiencing menopause if they do not experience menstruation for 12 months. Symptoms that occur during menopause include somatic, psychological, and urogenital symptoms. Exercise has many benefits for body health. Exercise, such as regular physical activity, is considered to reduce complaints during menopause. This study aims to identify the relationship between various physical activities and menopausal symptoms in women aged 50-60 years in the working area of the Ujunggading Health Center. This research uses a correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach model with a sample size of 75 respondents using the nonprobability sampling method, namely using purposive sampling, data collection using GPAQ and MRS questionnaires, and data analysis using correlation tests. The results of the research from 75 respondents showed that the frequency distribution of the characteristics of respondents with the highest occupation was as a housewife, namely 23 people (30.7%), the highest education was junior high school, namely 20 people (26.7%), and the highest duration of menopause was 5-7 years, namely 36 people (48.0%). Shows that many respondents have physical activity in the moderate category 54 (72%), and many respondents experience menopausal symptoms in the moderate category 37 (49.3%). There is a relationship between physical activity and menopausal symptoms with a p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05). There is a relationship between physical activity and menopausal symptoms where the higher the physical activity carried out, the less menopausal symptoms are felt, menopausal symptoms can be reduced by routinely doing activities and exercising for 15 to 60 minutes every day.

Abstract

The widespread use of jamu, a traditional Indonesian herbal medicine, has been accompanied by a surge in adulteration with synthetic drugs to enhance efficacy and sales. This study aimed to detect the presence of glibenclamide, a common adulterant, in antidiabetic jamu product using TLC. This study employed three herbal medicine samples marketed for lowering blood glucose levels, with glibenclamide BPFI serving as a reference standard. Thin-layer chromatography, employing a mobile phase consisting of chloroform, cyclohexane, ethanol, and glacial acetic acid (9:9:1:1), was utilized for the analysis. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) analysis revealed a standard Rf value of 0.4 for glibenclamide, producing a distinct blue-violet spot when visualized with 10% sulfuric acid. The results indicated that the tested herbal medicine samples did not contain the pharmaceutical substance glibenclamide. This conclusion was drawn from the absence of a corresponding Rf value for glibenclamide in the herbal samples when compared to the reference standard.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Menopause is a natural phase experienced by every woman and is characterized by the cessation of reproductive function due to a decrease in the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This condition not only affects the reproductive system but also impacts changes in fat metabolism and an increase in Body Mass Index (BMI), potentially increasing the risk of metabolic and cardiovascular disorders in postmenopausal women. This study aims to compare body mass index and fat metabolism in menopausal women. This study is an experimental study with a quasi-experimental design. The study was conducted at Royal Prima General Hospital, Medan. The study population consisted of all postmenopausal women undergoing medical examinations at Royal Prima General Hospital, Medan. A sample size of 40 individuals was divided into two groups. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses using the Independent Sample T-Test at a 95% confidence level (α=0.05). The results showed that most respondents were >50 years old, predominantly had overweight BMI categories, and presented lipid profiles categorized as borderline–high to high. Bivariate analysis revealed no significant differences between the two groups for all examined variables, including BMI (p = 0.675), total cholesterol (p = 0.745), LDL (p = 0.525), HDL (p = 0.968), and triglycerides (p = 0.914). Although statistically insignificant, the distribution of data indicated a tendency for increased total cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride levels in the group with menopause duration >5 years, suggesting metabolic changes associated with prolonged menopausal status.
